My movie maker won't even open. It says that the required audio hardware
cannot be found on my computer. I recently reinstalled Windows XP and had no
problems with the movie maker previously. What happened?

Nope. Downloaded the sp2 and have the problem. Thanks though for the thought.

Just trying to help LizDva, but you said you downloaded sp2.....are you sure
you
then installed it? Movie Maker 2 is inside the service pack 2, and is the
only acceptable way to get the program. Otherwise, maybe some of the
experts on here
will read your request and figure out what could be technically wrong.

I just found out my sound card isn't working. It's says it's a unimodem
half-duplex audio device. That means nothing to me. Someone help please.
Thank you to those trying to help.

That's what I figured it was.
Ok then 1st steps:
Under Control Panel click on the "System" Icon
Click the "Hardware" tab
Click the "Device Manager" button
Is there a driver with a yellow exclamation mark next to it,
presumably in the Sound, video and game controllers area?
If so then right click on it and click "uninstall" then reboot the machine
The drivers will automatically reinstall and "hopefully" work.
If this doesn't work post back here, we have more options this is just the
simplest one.

Also I should ask, is your computer by chance a Dell?
If so then you need to install the drivers off the Dell Resource CD.

Yes, it's a Dell. I uninstalled the drivers with exclamation points and
rebooted. It now says the wizard cannot find the necessary software, even
with the Resource CD in the drive.

It won't be able to with Dell
You need to do it manually with the Dell Resource CD.
When you load the CD the Resource CD software interface will run.
Locate the drivers for your audio card, click on them and then click the
"Extract" button.
A Window will pop up, click "Continue"
Another window will pop up showing where the drivers will be installed,
click "ok"
It will (should) then ask you if you want to overwrite the files, click "Yes
to All"
After it loads the drivers to your HDD click "ok"
Another window will open, click "Install Now"
Reboot the computer and you should be home free.

Right... I consider all posts to this newsgroup as public info, and copy/use

Sometimes I use names and sometimes not.... in this case, I didn't.... but

yourself in the foot again Eh.....

Just in case you were wondering people The MVPL papajohn has NO CONTROL over
what is or is not posted in this newsgroup and he has NO RIGHTS OF OWNERSHIP
OR CONTROL over anything you post....He once wrote to me telling me that we
cannot both control this newsgroup....that message came out of the blue I
can tell you....I had no idea that he thought he controlled this
newsgroup!!! I know I do not. But the thought that he considered himself in
charge well, that's the kind of bloke people......power and money mad

Papajohn is a RIP-OFF MERCHANT who will use all and any means at his
disposal to earn money from you. He was recently shot down in flames when he
tried to encourage you the user to click on a link in this newsgroup that
would automatically earn him revenue. He will also happily charge you US $50
to fix a problem project file or US$20 to read his so called Newsletter...a
publication which by the way is a complete insult to the intelligence of all
who read it ...and apparently contains Lies !!!

Another example...some weeks back a chap asked for help. He gave his reason
as having taken advice from the mvpl papajohns website that instructed him
to alter the BIOS settings so that Movie Maker would work....Believe me
their is nothing in the BIOS that will affect Movie Maker whilst all other
programs would remain unaffected.....My response was "I will leave that to
papajohn" papajohns comment to the user was along the lines of, "I do not
understand that advice, I copied it from a message, the OP uses that advice
at his own risk"...I complained about his lack of responsibility towards the
user.....Nothing.....as far as I know the advice is still their...and as he
makes it often look as though it is he that is giving the advice I am sure
you will be lulled into a very FALSE state and as a result believe what's on
his site. My advice...DON'T TOUCH IT WITH A BARGE POLE

Be very careful what you tell this guy, he will find a way of using it to
his advantage, financial advantage.

Someone sent a couple pointers and suggested I reconsider my position. I'll
read the references and do so with another post. Here's the two links that
were provided and what I'm just starting to review:

Reconsider your position LOL We have already seen you change your view to
suit your own purposes...after that who cares what you say.

Having seen your "Review" of the only product to get the full Microsoft
seal of approval anywhere in the world, the program PerfectDisc, I do not
think anyone will ever trust anything you say again...and that's just based
on that one review...if people watch your performance long enough they will
also see that you change your story as often as the wind
changes.....following on from that we also have the LIES.

I've read the references and I should modify my statement.... I said:

"... I consider all posts to this newsgroup as public info, and copy/use
the good info from them to help build my website...."

What I actually do in practice when copying selected info is review the
content of each post and use it in such a way that it aligns with the 'fair
use' allowance of copyright law.

What I actually do is fine... my broad statement was off base...

Your website is commercial, your newsletters are commercial, your books are
commercial...you use posts from users on a commercial site...you are NOT
permitted to do that ... READ THE LAW THAT THE USA HAS FINALLY SIGNED UP TO
which brings it in line with the rest of the WORLD

In what way did you review the advice that directed one user to modify his
BIOS settings in the belief (because he gained that advice from your
commercial website which therefore MUST be correct) You have already
admitted that your own knowledge falls short of the mark with regard to
that advice. So how do you make a valued judgment...or does that judgment
work the same way as your comments about other matters....it changes to
suit your needs and no one else's

As always, there is nothing in your message of value...its a bloated
opinion that is self serving...further, as a reader of law for some 30
years, I can guarantee that your assessment of the law in the space of a
few minutes qualifies itself as an Instant Judgment with no foundation of
any kind...you did not even have time to read the relevant sections...let
alone pronounce yourself Good and True

Witness people, A complete fool in action
