Saving files as DV-AVI goes down without a hitch, but when I play it in media
player 10, it looks for a codec, says error downloading, and then just plays
the video, no audio. I tried opening the file in various other editor
applications and also GSpot and either they give an error or dont work.

Just to be funny I opened it in Quicktime Player and it worked, FINE. Go
figure.

In mmk2, the source file is AVI, the source audio is wav.

Well Just a little more information, when I moved the output DV-AVI file
back into movie maker, I was able to get it to play. So realising that there
was not problem except for the Windows Media Player, I opened it up in MGI
VideoWave, and saved it as an uncompressed AVI file to which I wanted.
(perhaps you can get MS to release a version of Move maker that supports
uncompressed avi video..)

The original source video is Divx5. Ran scene detector, slapped an audio
file along with it and then (after about 5 million crashes) was able to
produce the movie. There really aren't any "exact" details, seems like Media
Player has a problem with dv-avi, thats all.

Hardly any apps will work with uncompressed avi files, due to the size of
them, and I'm suprised MGI videowave does. Virtually all editing apps have
been designed to work with dv-avi, as this is the std format with digital
camcorders.
How did you convert the divx file to a dv-avi file?
AVI is just a wrapper and can consist of many file types, dv-avi is
different to a divx avi to an uncompressed avi etc etc.
