Having trouble signing in, after I repeatadly click save my username and
password when Icome back it's blank, now to post a new question it goes in a
circle ?, I spent the last 2 days buying and running Reg/Cure and
Spybotware then bought Roxio 10 and installed it but, WMM still only says
save to Cd not DVD also, I looked at the compatability list and there is no
Roxio there, three say Nero and a bunch of others.

Is ther anyway to reinstall Movie Maker 2.1, My comp says it's there as
well as SP2, I can do it on my laptop, but not my desktop, this is
maddening, could someone please help.

MM 2.1 Xp does not save to dvd.
MM 2.1 which comes with media centre edition windows OS has save to dvd
option.
Vista has save to dvd option.

Save movie as dv.avi and import it inot roxio to make your dvd.

On Mar,9 I bought a plugin download from Sonic to allow Media Center to play
DVD in Cineplayer, They told me Cineplayer (with this decder) would play
DVDs in Cineplayer but not burn them, this is on my laptop with win/xp sp2
and mswmm 2.1, it is 16 mo.old and allways had the DVD save option in mswmm
and it still works.?
My desktop is 4 yrs old same O/S and won't burn to DVD, It used to ??,
Last night I downloaded from microsoft a SP2 cleanup and reinstall program,
Ran it and mswmm still won't burn to DVD.
I think you hit on something though, on closer examination under the help
tab in mswmm there is a difference between the 2 machines.
Desktop says Windows home Edition
Ver 5.1(build 2600.xpsp_sp2_qdr.070227-2254 : service pack 2)
windows Movie maker ver. 2.1.4026.0

Laptop says Windows Media Center Edition
Ver. 5.1(build 2600.xpsp_sp2_qfe.070227-2300 : service pack 2)
windows movie maker ver. 2.1.4026.0

So there is clearly a difference there, Do you think that is the problem and
how could I fix it ?.
Thanks a million for your help

As I said, windows media centre will burn from MM, using the sonic plug in,
which is part of media centre.
Std XP WILL NOT burn to dvd from MM.

Your two options are.

Upgrade the pc to media centre, which will most likely entail not only
buying the media centre edition of XP, but also compatible hardware.

Or, my choice.

Save as a dv.avi from MM and import this into your dvd authoring app.

Thanks a bunch Graham, I tryed registering on your site this morning and
thought I was But to post a reply or ask a question I had to log on and it
would not take my username and password ?, I will try again later.
I hear what your saying about saving to dv avi and am grateful for that
option, But I am trying to get it to work like the laptop, I would think
the difference in build numbers and home verses media center versions has to
be the problem, I downloaded and reinstalled sp2 yesterday and it made no
difference, Thanks again for your help, You have a really neat lookin
website.

What Gord means is that XP Home SP2 does not save to dvd.
media centre edition does.

This has been said several times and is the cause of your problem.

Instead of upgrading to Media Edition which your hardware may not be suitable
for.

Your best best would be to purchase some DVD Authoring software.
Some possibles are Nero, Roxio, WinDVD, ProShow Gold, ULead.

Most of these can be purchased at 50 to 100 USD and do a great job of creating
DVD's with menuing features.

I could not live without my ULead Factory 6

Well, I guess I could if someone would spring for Ulead DVD Workshop 2<g>

Thanks for the thought, I bought Roxio 10 last week installed it and after
many hangups and crashes, I took it off and reinstalled Roxio 9, I also have
Nreo 7 installed, nothing seems to work, not even saving to my computer then
choosing Dv/Avi, can't seem to import the saved file into Roxio.
I am missing something I know and can't put my finger on it ?, My drive is
beginning to growl at me and it's almost full so I guess I need a bigger
drive or clean this one off and start over ?, Time will tell, Thanks for all
your suggestions.

It's never a good idea ot have several burning apps on your machine. They
interfere with each other.

There are two ways of making a dvd.

Data
Video

These are made differently, this tutorial from nero tells you how you should
go about making a dvd-video
http://www.nero.com/eng/support-nero7-tutorials-photo-video.html

It may well be that you are following the wrong proceedure.

Gord, you should now aspire to dvdlabs pro, When Ulead were sold the
development of WS3 was stopped, a great shame as we were working on several
really good improvements. WS2 is still a very good app, and I use it all
the time, but as I approach HD it will get relegated to the back shelf.

Thanks for that link to Nero Tutorials Graham, I never saw that before, So
I will be doing some reading there, I had heard that before about (not
having multiple burning software) on the same drive, but got frustrated when
add/remove programs don't seem to uninstall them, That may well be some of
my problem, Yesterday while burning a bunch of copies with Roxio 9,
Cineplayer popped up and tryed to play a movie when I clicked on make another
DVD, and sometimes Nero pops up unexpectedly, I guess my machine like me is
totally confused, By the way I have (overtime) set it up.
