    - Movie Maker Crashes after 7 items placed in story line I have cured the problem ... after about 30 hours of reading up and trying various suggestions Thanks to those that replied and helped me finally establish a solution For the archives, and to help others here is an out line of what I found out. A) This is a problem that has been recorded several times before ( see Dean Rowe blog) some people have experienced crashing after 6 items are put on the story board and some after the seventh but it is always the same fixed number of items when the crash occurs B) The problem seems to be that the update files Wmm2ae.dll through to Wmm2res.dll are up loaded via Microsoft automatic update BUT the main programe moviemk.exe is not ( has not been ) updated and is vers 2.0 instead of ver 2.1 c) uploading xp sp2 or running Microsoft up dates DID NOT cure it d) this is how I FOUNDthe problem make a restore point in c:\program Files\Movie maker, view , tiles Check that Wmm2Ae.dll .... to Wmm2res.dll are there and have the version number 2.1.40.26 ( as per Dean Rowe's blog) CheckMovieMk.exe in explorer select properties and if the file is ver 2.0 then you have confirmed the problem it should be ver 2.1.... All of the following may not be necessary but here is how I rectified it I AM NOT A COMPUTER BLOKE SO I AM ONLY TELLING YOU WHAT WORKED FOR ME! open START UP - RUN TYPE In C:\windows\system32\dllcache ENTER ........ see Dean Rowe's blog if its not hthere and you need ServicePackFiles\i386 Hold down control and select the following files Moviemk.exe wmm2ae.dll wmm2eres.dll Wmm2ext.dll Wmm2flt.dll Wmm2fxa.dll Wmm2fxb.dll Wmm2res2.dll Wmm2res.dll .note I did not find ANY of these Wmm" files here so I just selecteed Moviemk.exe on it's own. EDIT, COPY Go to c:\program Files| movie maker ( the missing Wmm2 Files were HERE - I ignored them for being away from there proper place -naughty files) EDIT , PASTE in CONFIRM FILE REPLACE .... YES TO ALL Restart Windows XP I then did a run update from Control panel , automatic update and It said I needed Service pack 3 I express installed this which took about 2hours !!!! An Bobs your uncle Movie maker updated to version 2.1 and every thing is running OK To see what I did with go to YOU TUBE SPARKFISHES and it will be TESLA COIL TUNING and TOP LOADS .......... its a shocking experience Thanks to all those who have spent many hours putting articles and advice on these matters To MICROSOFT >>>>>>>>>>>>> MOVIE MAKER IS SOooooo FLAKEY Shame on you!     - files missing, delete, but can't import again I hv play back problem in MM. so I delete them, but I can't clear the contents from "Imported media". It doesn't show file name, however, I still can see clip name and duration etc. I try to import back the same file again, but error appears. It says "... .jpg could not be imported.     - Setting title duration I know I can use Options on the Tools pull-down menu to set the duration for each picture to display. Now I want to put a title on each picture that will display for the same duration. Is there someplace I can set that title display duration or do I have to manually adjust it on each picture?     - An interface has too many methods to fire from... intermittent iss I think I have read just about every response to this error message, except my issue is a little different than the others. I have a Sony DCR-HC30 which I used for years with WMM 2.1 connect via firewire with no issue. Now I ingest footage off my DCR via WMM with no issue, edit and output it for DVD burning and suddenly the AVI files that I could view yesterday, are unreadable today with the "An interface has too many methods to fire events from" error. Now the only think I have changed over the years is the addition of a 500Gb HDD for storing and working on more video footage. The drive has occassion issues staying connected through the USB. I am suspecting that it is either the drive or the USB connection that is unstable here. I am lookinf for options and suggestions to resolve my issues. Would connecting external HDD to the PC via firewire improve anything? Is there another resolution I am overlooking? Please advise. Thanks.     - Import images file either not valid or corrupted I am having a problem that I have looked ever where else to find an answer to. Twice in the last three days now I have had to re-import my video and music files in to MM, I get an error message that says the files or either not valid or corrupted. I had to shut down MM and all the file were there and fine, when I restarted it a minute later I received this message.     - Voice over? Hi, is there any way to voice over a speech/music/sound from an existing video clip which continues into the 2nd video clip. For example, i have a video whereby i have a video of a person singing and as he/she sings the song from that clip can continue on into various movie clips just like a karaoke.     - Nothing works! Hi. I am so frustrated. I spent 700.00 on a camera ( with extra battery pack, case ect...) and I can not make a movie. I was so excited to discover that my WXP had MM but then I find out it won't accept my mpg2 movies. Papajohn (and others ) post that I need to download a converter and convert them to avi. files. I did that. Then I need to download a Panasonic codec something or other, I did that. Now I have managed to turn one film into an avi file,( yeah!) but MM2( I upgraded to MM2 thinking that might help) will not accept that either. says I don't have the codec.     - No Sound I'm creating a video and I've imported 2 songs. One works fine but the other one doesn't make a sound! I right clicked on it, clicked on Play clip and it still won't play. I checked it out in Windows Media Player and it works fine. When I went back, the other song wouldn't play so I deleted them both and imported them again.     - On opening Movie maker Crashes I'm using an XP Pro and have installed IE7 - and also have installed SP2 sometime ago. All other programs seem to be running okay.     - Error Opening Movie Maker Project (Redirected) I accidentally posted this in the wrong group, but someone kindly informed me of my mistake. I'm using Windows Movie Maker with XP and no, no IE7. Now, when creating my video there were no issues really. I saved it a couple times, but I didn't actually have to open it again during its creation because I kept WMM running the whole time I was making it. After it was completed I tried to save it as a movie file. I've done this plenty of times with no issue, but the progress bar stuck at 89% and then the estimated time remaining went up. (65 seconds, then 1 minute, then 4 minutes) I canceled and then attempted to save again, but encountered the same issue. I restarted my computer and then when I tried to open the project I was informed that WMM had enountered an error and needed to close, so sorry. It's very important that I rescue this file, because it was a creative project and there is basically no way I could redo it. Especially because when I tried to do that, create another version of it, I had the same error when trying to open THAT saved file. However, WMM is okay when opening other projects I've finished long ago, at least for now. Please... can anybody help me, and soon?     - After unchecking codecs, MM won't start - says it can't find audio I have XP with SP2. MM was starting to crash on me more and more, especially after adding audio. I followed the advice on papajohn.org to uncheck some codecs in the MM options. Then crashes seemed less frequent, but after the next reboot MM won't start - it says "Windows movie maker cannot be used because the required audio hardware cannot be found on your computer." I'm pretty sure I didn't remove any codecs specific to my sound card (Realtek AC'97), but I uninstalled the sound card drivers, downloaded a fresh copy and reinstalled them anyway. No change. I've searched the web and found others having this message, but not because of simply unchecking codecs. How do I recover?     - Restore crashed Movie File I've recorded about 2 hours a movie by a digital cam with Microsoft Movie Maker. When I finished the record Movie Maker starts to create a wmv movie. While creating the movie the Movie Maker crashed. The size of the created movie is 202 MB but not finished. With VLC-Player I can view the first part of the movie but not all. At my hard disc I found two files "WMTF.tmp" and "WMT10.tmp". My guess is that Movie Maker has cashed the record in this file. Can I restore the movie with these two files? However... when I restart it, It appears to go directly to the point where I left off, but I have to start all over again.     - Moving MM to laptop problem 1. I created a movie with Movie Maker 2 on my home computer. I copy the parent and child folders which contain my pictures and WMVs used in the movie to my laptop. When I launch MM2 on my laptop I want the collections to display exactly how I organized them on my home computer. Is this possible? 2. Some of the pictures have a large red X in the timeline.     - PS3 to MM2 - problems burning I've wasted 32 DVD-R trying to figure this out. I made an animated PS3 WMV and saved under a few profiles. DVD-NTSC has the best end results. After importing this file into MM2 to add to my existing movie then save as a DVD-NTSC movie, some of the PS3 transitions jitter, but I can live with them. My main problem is trying to burn to a DVD-R. The quality is terrible. I am using Nero Essentials 7 with a Sony burner. I have tried many setting variations In PS3, MM2 and Nero but can't produce a quality finished movie. I have tried using the generic CODEC's in PS3 and MM2 as well as installing FFDshow using appropriate WMV CODEC's, which all fail. I have also tried Windows Encoder on the MM2 WMV. My movie plays fine (acceptable) in power point which I will present to an audience later this week and want to burn a bunch of DVDs to hand out. I just can't make it happen. I could use help please. Now for some reason Movie Maker doesn't import the whole 29 it just imports about 9 Videos why does it do it? I've also tried to encode them to .avi still the same issue!!     - Various Problems with Media Player Xp Pro Sp2 Hi I wonder if you can help me with this notty problem. I'm trying to import 29 Videos into Movie Maker they are mpeg and are from my cam corder (I have the videos stored on a seperate drive) and for some reason Movie Maker is not importing the full 29 videos witch are mpeg format. I encoded them to .avi and still Movie Maker has other ideas and is not importing them all properly. Do you know what the problem might be? Also Two of the videos I was "triming" in which I saved properly in wmw then converted them back to mpeg using the Super Encoder Program. Now the problem is when I joined all the videos together and amongst the videos I joined those two only show the picture and not the sound! I tried everthing and it has me baffled!! I'm trying to import 29 Videos (mpeg) into Movie Maker but they don't all import and I don't know why this happens how can I get all the videos in there because I need to edit them. I encoded them to .avi and still the problem is there. So when I encoded them back .meg format to join them and I goto "join" the videos I edited and there are two pesky videos in there that don't "join" properly me thinks, what happens is that I can see the video but I don't hear no sound all the other videos I joined work fine. I know its not the videos themseves because they play perfectly fine when I joined them together. I would be greatful for any help givien.     - Class not registered when trying to import a mpg file already capt I have a movie already captured using Moviestar by Dazzle. I am trying to burn that movie to a dvd. I have tried the MyDVD that comes with it and it is giving me too many error messages.     - System not detecting camcorder I am running XP with SP2. In the past few days, for no apparent reason, my pc has declined to recognise either of my DV camcorders (Sony A-1E and Canon XM2) - at least it does so intermittently - and has now stopped altogether - I can only surmise that my 1394 Card or iLink cable has become defective ?     - File compatibility--possible conversion I used Pinnacle's Instant DVD recorder (has Dazzle as the analog converter) to convert lots of parts of different VHS tapes (analog) to digital video files onto DVD discs which were then copied to the PC. One of these now-digital videos have the following names: Folder = VIDEO_TS Files in this folder: VIDEO_TS.BUP VIDEO_TS.IFO VIDEO_TS.VOB VTS_01_0.BUP VTS_01_0.IFO VTS_01_1.VOB VTS_01_2.VOB I have opened Movie Maker 2.1 and tried to import these files from my PC folder into it to no avail. Is there any way to convert these files to one of the formats acceptable to Window Moviemaker 2.1, so I can import these files & start the movie process?? I have Windows Vista Home Premium with Movie Maker 6.0. When I try to write a
project made in Movie Maker to DVD, it constantly crashes at about 71%, with
an undefined error.

Is there anything that can be done about it?

It is likely that there is a problem with your original source files. Have
a look at this URL to see if your files are among those listed as
incompatible with Movie Maker.
