    - Files in a Movie Maker project that will not burn Are there any files that can be used without issue in Windows Movie Maker but that won't burn onto a DVD? I've made a movie using different pictures and video clips and been able to save it as a WMV file and convert it to an MPEG file, but I can't get it to burn onto a DVD. I've been using DVD-R disks and tried on a couple of different computers with DVD burners (both PCs and Macs). On one it appeared to burn completely but the disk didn't work on 2 different DVD players or 2 different computers; another one failed at burning in the beginning. Now I'm wondering if the problem could either be a .gif file that I have in the beginning (do these burn onto DVDs?) or I was wondering if I mistakenly used a song or movie clip that is potentially copyrighted that I got from the internet, would that mess up the burn? Or could it just be that one of the files is corrupted, and that just doesn't show up in Windows Media Player or when converting the finished file?     - codec problem im using a version of hypercam to create video files(WMP files) they play fine on windows media player but when i try to import them to moviemaker 6.0 , an error pops up and says i dont have the codec installed i need. when i try to add "already imported" clips to my video they play fine but when i shorten the clips, it still seems to work but when i play any clips already imported or try to add another one to the timeline, it's just a solid black clip... has anyone had this problem or can help me?     - poor quality I'm importing ~3M pixel photos to my computer. When I view them, they look great. When I import them to Movie Maker the quality is very poor.     - Video Clip/Phot narration I want a certain effect but dont know how to do it (and not sure if its possible) This is the hypothectical. I record someone telling a story for one minutes. (picture and sound) During the middle 20 seconds I want to drop the VIDEO portion of the recording (but keep the audio) and for those 20 seconds show a few pictures, the come back to the video and audio clip.     - .MSWMM File Isn't supported by Windows Movie Maker I made a movie with WMM and the file extenstion is .MSWMM. I believe it might have been an older version of WMM. The problem is I have 5.1 and it tells me when I try to import the following: .MSWMM is not a supported file type, and it cannot be imported into Windows Movie Maker.     - Movie Maker closes when I try to add to Timeline I'm running WMM 2.1 on XP I've been making a home movie using jpg's and wma files, and everything was fine. Now, when i try to add anything to the timeline, WMM just closes, with no error message - it just goes away !! I've experimented by setting up a new dummy project and dragging jpg's down to the timeline. On the 22nd one, the same thing happened. I reopened the project i'm working on and counted the items on the timeline, and it was 21...... so it would seem the 22nd item will always cause this to happen !!!     - Bad display ratio with screen capture Hello all, I used Media Encoder 9 to record various activities while the user is performing some activity on the computer. These screen caps pertain to certain parts of the screen, sometimes they are a vertical rectangle, sometimes they are a horizontal one. When I play these using WMP they look ok, but when I import them into MM2 and generate the output file (WMV format) the images get streched horizontally and vertically which makes the captured video look bad.     - Clips wont drag onto the Timeline! I am running Windows Movie Maker 6.0 on Vista Home Premium the computer is a Toshiba Satelite A205 with 1Gb of Ram. The problem is that I can not move any clips down to the timeline. I have imported the video clips that came with the computer of the butterfly the bear and the lake.     - can't capture video manually in Movie Maker Hello, Recently, I have been trying to capture video from my Sony Digital 8 camcorder using Movie Maker. Everytime I try to capture it, I get an "unknown error has occurred" message. I am able to capture video if I choose the "capture the entire tape" option. However, I don't want to do that because the video I need is on the end of the tape. I am able to capture the video when I choose the DV-AVI option, however, the file is huge and I am still unable to save the movie.     - Vista WMM project in XP WMM I cannot seem to get a movie i have been working on for several months to open in the XP verison of WMM. I created it using the Vista version, and assumed it would be backwards compatible. Does anyone know if I am out of luck?     - still photo slideshows on youtube I'm making a slideshow out of digital images. I'm wondering what settings I need to select when exporting out of Movie Maker. So far, when I upload to Youtube, the movie is grainy and pixelated. The project has a 3-minute mp3 and 57 images.     - WMM to DVD I have read so many of the threads on burning a DVD using Nero8 or Roxio but I'm still having trouble. I bought both program because I was so frustrated - and I still am.     - Mpeg 2 to avi problem I used papajohn's guide to creating an avi file from an mpeg 2 file. I used the vdubmod method but my avi file is all blurry and poor quality (much worse than the mpeg).     - Import and freeze problem I used a program called vob2mpg to convert my video. I imported this into my movie. Now it hangs the program constantly. I did research and think it may have been converted into a mpeg2, which apparently Windows Movie Maker doesn't like. Trouble is, I can't delete the clip I inserted. What can I do to get rid of it?     - MovieMaker 5.1 - missing pics/videos/audio I am working with a student on a school project. She has created a Movie Maker project - imported pics, music, video. We went through all steps - saved the movie to computer. We have since played the saved movie in Media Player. The project is so good - we are planning to enter it into our state media festival. Her original folder was backed up - all files are located in the same folder. When we open the project - it shows the first slide - all others have a large X (though the pic name shows below it).     - Captured video only plays as blank screen. So, I'm trying to capture my old vhs tapes from my vcr into my computer. On the capture screen i click start capture and it seems to be capturing, the preview plays the video and audio just fine. I thought it was capturing the movie then after about 30 min i thought i'd stop capture and save it. When I tried to play the what i had just captured the clip playin in movie maker and windows media player showed the clip as being 30min, but wasn't playing any video or audio just a black screen. I just remember another problem. In the preview window it showed the how many minutes of film had been captured, but on estimated video size it only said 5k and was not moving.     - sound probelm i just finished a video using my old digital camera. its a music video with a piece of conversation between me and my wife at the beginning. i used the microphone from the camera to capture the converstaion and then used an mp3 for the music later on. whenever i tried to save the film onto my computer and then play it back on the windows media player the sound and video jumps ONLY when the conversation takes place causing me to believe that it is the sound problem from the digital camera. when i checked on what setting my camera was on it said 'PAL' and not 'NTSC' does this make a difference? i have tried copying the conversation audio onto a narration track using the narration tool and the same thing happens when i play the finished film on WMP. is there any way i can change the quality of the conversation audio so that it doesnt mess up the film when i play it back. the bit rate for the audio track is 32 kbps. sample rate: 8khz ...if this is any help. i hope i have explained this well enough. i have been tearing my hair out with this. at the moment the only option i can think of is to re-do the conversation with a narraration over the top. like a re-dub. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks Tag: Windows Movie Maker will not edit *.dvr-ms files - why???     - WMM thinks I have no memory left in My Computer. I had finished making a music video. I clicked the "Save to my computer." When the Windows Movie Maker Wizard shows, I chose my video's destination to be "My Videos." I clicked "Next." Then, when they ask for my video size/selection, I chose "High Quality (small)." This means my video should be 320 x 240. I click "Next." Note: My computer C drive has 46.37 GB left However, when they showed me the saving progress, it shows me "Save to my CD." "You're movie is being recorded and saved to a CD." I don't understand. My destination was supposed to be "My Videos" in my C drive. Plus, it stays at 0% I don't know what's going on.     - WMV File Clip "Plays" But Video Image Does Not Advance I have Captured a 34 MB File from my Sony HandyCam as a WMV file. As I had checked the box so that it would be automatically split up into individual Clips, MovieMaker 2.1 created 39 Clips out of the file. The first Clip works fine (i.e., the progression bar advances, I hear the audio and the video displays and advances normally in the upper right video display area---and I can pause, move frames forward and backward, etc). I created a Split in the first Clip at a desired point. The subsequent Clips "Play" after some delay---which I assume is beacuse of indexing / positioning to the applicable Start and Stop time reference points in the WMV file---with the progression bar advancing, the audio playing, BUT the video displays only the first frame in the Clip and does NOT advance normally in the upper right video display area. The entire WMV file plays without issue, from end to end, in Windows Media Player without issue. I am at a loss as to what is happening here. I have rebooted my PC and get the same results. The various Clips obviously cannot be edited without being able to "see" and position the frames for further Clip splitting and posting to the Storyboard Timeline.     - Stop at 2 % When I am done editing a movie in Windows Movie Maker in Vista, I click publish to computer. I save in the Videos folder.     - fuzzy photos AFTER project has been saved Hello all, this is not the first time I have used MM to make a project but it is the first time I feel that the photos I see in my finished product are not very sharp.     - Movie Maker, Vista, and MM restarts instead of publishing I'm using Vista, MM 6.0 etc, WMV audio file, JPG pictures, short video clips in the WMV format. No special effects on transitions. I've worked hard to time the pictures and video with the audio (it's a music video of my band that I'm working on) but when I go to publish --- MM asks for a file name, which I enter and hit next, then it closes, restarts itself, checks for the files, but does absolutely nothing after that.     - Movie Maker crashes immediately I tried running Movie Maker for the first time but it crashed immediately. I apparently inherited this (as I've read) from installing SP2...eons ago. In an attempt to repair it, I've managed to install 2.0 over 2.1 and then take 2.0 back off again (I think). I've even tried re-installing the update that put it on originally (I think)...KB892312. All to no avail...it still crashes several seconds after starting it. The desktop is drawn and the pull down menus will respond but I then get the dreaded "xxx has encountered a problem and needs to close..." window.     - Windows Movie maker problem hello there. to the point. when trying to create a movie. all is well in the begining. after I add the first video clip, when I add another video clip. an then the Moviemaker Crash's. from the first time I had problems I think when I imported a video clip that was given to me. an when I added it to movie maker. at first was ok. then after it started not work properly. as in the interface. all the features went from what is seen when the all is working. then to now the interface is bare minimal. no transitions an such. well to say after I updated my platform I got to see my moviemaker as it was. but still won't allow me to add one more video clip. it crash's. I notice when I updated my platform it also updated my moviemaker to the new updated 2.1 I have been contemplating on trying to download the trial version to see if that could fix whatever happened to the regestry. ughh its madening. I'm wandering if it could be to do with plugins. I have no experience in this. as I won't load the video that was on disc. for example I'm wandering if the small video clip could have been a divx.     - PLEASE HELP!! i cannot burn my project to a DVD+R. i had always been able to until i recently had to have a system restore. when i put my burned DVD+R disk into my DVD player it says "wrong disk format", but it plays in my computer. i've also tried a CD-R, and it does the same thing. it won't even work using nero. i don't get it because i had always been able to burn my videos using DVD+R before. can somebody please help me?? i have a project that i have to burn using windows movie maker soon. thanks!!!!! When a TV program is recorded from Windows Media Center the recorded video
has the file format [name.dvr-ms]

I can open and play these dvr-ms files with Windows Media Player, Windows
Media Center, Nero Showtime etc. but if I try to import a dvr-ms file into
Windows Movie Maker I always get the error message "File could not be
imported. Unspecified error"

Windows Movie Maker will successfully import and edit files with extensions
.wmv, .avi, . mpg etc.

I am using fully updated Vista Home Premium SP1 and the latest Windows Movie
Maker v.6.0.6000.16386. The system is very stable and works well in all
other respects.

What is my problem? - I am baffled!

YOu are in the XP newsgroup, so a post to the vista one would probably yield
better results.
.vista.music_pictures_video
Vista movie maker should be able to edit the dvr.ms files.

Do you have any trouble with any other file type, such as wmv or dv.avi?
