Hullo
After dowloading SP2 i have realised that windows movie maker has been
upgraded to 2.1 and is presenting me with problems that 2.0 didn't.

Firstly when a movie file is imported from my hard drive (mpeg-1) the player
sometimes wont play them and i am left with a blank editing monitor that is
no good to man or beast. Also the thumbnail/picon doesn't update so i dont
even get the first frame image.

Secondly, if it does import and play - when i try to save to m,y computer i
am met with the words 'Windows movie maker canot save movie to specified
location. Verify sources for movie are still available, there is enough free
disk space etc'. This happens when the source files are intact and there is
plenty of disk space available. I am also running with over 1gb RAM and a
3ghz processor so cant see that there would be any system issues.

Thirdly if any of the above issues occur the program freezes and wont
respond.

Can anyone answer why this is occuring?
Regards
Neil Roberts

Try playing with the new Tools | Options | Compatibility dialog, maybe
uncheck all except your mpeg codec and see what happens. Let us know if
this helps.

No that does'nt work either. I'm still faced with the blank screen in the
preview box and no thumbnail/picon as if it doesn't recognise the file. My
video decoder that is being used is a Ligos decoder.

Ah, so these clips are MPEG2!! All bets are off for mpeg2. if it worked in
MM2.0 it mus t have been a fluke rather than by design. MM2.1 has restored
the correct behaviour for you :-)

Convert these clips to wmv using Windows Media Encoder

Re: Windows Movie Maker 2.1 - numerous problems by webformation

webformation

I had NO problems with Movie Maker 2 - this new version 2.1 is not letting me
import .avi files. I'm having same difficulty - tried Windows Media Encoder
to convert from .mov files to .wmv rather than use Blink & Smacker conversion
of .mov files to .avi WME will not convert - still says it needs codec
(0xC00D1B83). Considering whether to invest in indeo.ligos.com to obtain
the codec that was orginally suggested in Movie Maker. Will the decoder
solve these importing problems??
