I have used Windows movie maker, on this computer about a year ago and it was
OK
I have now bought a new Camera ( Fuji s5700) and Microsoft have updated my
software automatically to WMM V2.0
Now windows MM2 will load videos into the story line but often crashes for
no reason ( that is it shuts off and I get returned to my desktop - it does
not hang)
It mostly happens when I try to add a still image into the project - though
I am sure it does it at random also
I am not trying to load huge files most are only a couple of minutes maximum
and there are about 4 in the project.

I have looked every whereand tried every thing.. I can think of

You have MM version 2.0? Have you installed
WinXP SP2? This should have upgraded
Movie Maker to version 2.1.

Maybe the following info will offer some ideas:

Try converting your .jpgs to Windows Bitmaps
[.bmp} before importing them into Movie Maker.

File type compatibility with Movie Maker

or

Some users have reported problems
after installing IE7. If this applies to your
situation ...uninstalling IE7 may be worth
a try.

I've also seen a report that disabling the
ffdshow codec could be the fix. To accomplish
this...open Movie Maker and go to...Tools /
Options / Compatibility tab...Uncheck...
ffdshow / OK.

===
(You can disable ffdshow with this command:
regsvr32.exe /u "C:\Program Files\ffdshow\ffdshow.ax"
After running that command, the regular
DivX/XviD codecs will be used instead of ffdshow.
You can enable ffdshow again with this command:
regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\ffdshow\ffdshow.ax" )

I am running XP Home , I have installed sp2 and have automatic updated
turned on

If I get to disabling the ffdshow bit I may need some help
It looks like a DOS command and I do not know how to do that ( I did when I
run MS DOS m/c!)

Open Movie Maker and go to...Help / About...
it should say:
Windows Movie Maker Version 2.1.4026.0

That is the latest version for WinXP.

If you have ffdshow.ax...you can open Movie Maker...
and go to...Tools / Options / Compatibility tab
and uncheck ffdshow.ax. Actually...if you have several
filters it may be a good idea to uncheck all of them.

just disabled ffdshow and didn't help. My Moviemaker program just freezes
when trying to save a movie. No errors, no nothin, just freezes. I have to
Ctl/Alt/Del and 'end process' to get out of the program.
