Hi there,
How you achieve your aims depends greatly on where you hope to work. IN the
UK north of London there does not seem to be too great a problem. You pay
the church however much they are asking and provided you are allowed to use
lighting your away.... But if you were in London (We are in the process of
setting one up for September this year) It seems as though they only let
you enter the church if you have paid them a LOT of money and you agree to
all sorts of conditions....no lighting is one of them, and whether you are
one of their regulars seems to be another...its a disgrace, but there is
not much you can do about it.
I'm told by friends on the ease coast of the USA that things are fairly
relaxed over there but there are the odd churches that can be a pain.
The best way of getting regular engagements is to latch on to a good
wedding photographer. A friend of mine in Gloucestershire travels up into
the Birmingham and Warwickshire region at least once a week doing this sort
of thing...he earns quite a decent amount of money at it as well. It would
have been of great interest to me, but I am not able to get around too much
so its out of the question.
The people who are doing the wedding for us in September charge £1,000 just
for the video and another £1,500 for the photos (Its a three man
operation), and, the copyright remains theirs, not the people who are being
filmed...this means that if you present them with an order at a later time
(in theory) they have you over a barrel with regards to the cost...a very
lucrative business!!
