That is correct MM2.x doesn't playback multi-selections in the collection
pane -- to watch multiple clips drag/drop them to the timeline and play the
timeline.

You can drag all clips from their respective collection folder into a single
Collection folder such as the main one.

here's what I've tried to do:

1. I converted 2 quick time movie files from my digital still camera to .avi
files to use in MM.
2. Imported the 2 avi files from "my documents" directory into MM by
selecting "Import Video" from the MM Movie Task bar.

During the import, a progress window opens showing the progress of the
import. It clearly shows two files being imported. Once the import is
complete, the two files/clips appear under the "Collections" directory, but
you can only view one of the clips as a thumbnail in the Collection pane at a
time. I can't seem to find a way to view thumbnails of all the clips in the
Collections directory on the Collections pane.

With MM working this way, there is no way to view thumbnails of all the
clips you want to use in a movie. You have to select each one individually. I
can't believe it's designed to work this way.

what is the problem? Do you expect differently? Generally all clips are
shown with their respective thumnails. To view a clip you need to click on
its thumbnail and then press play. The playback of this clips is constrained
to that clip alone. Thats the normal process!

May be you do "not" want to have the clips. This can be achieved by
unchecking the option check box in the File Import dialog. Look closely near
the botoom edge of the dialog there is an option to make clips. it is
checked by default.

Rehan,

Maybe I'm not being clear here.

As with video transitions and video effects, when you choose one of those
options, you see all the possible choices as thumbnails in the "Collection
Pane". Also, if I import 15 still photographs, once the import is complete,
I see 15 thumbnails of the photographs in the "Collection Pane".

This is not the case with the video I have imported. If I import several
video clips, I can only view one of the clips at a time in the "Collection
Pane". I want to be able to view all the imported video clips I've imported
in the "collection Pane" so that I can look at them as thumbnails and
determine which order I want to place them in the time line. I'm sure MM is
suppose to work this way since it does for still photographs.

Is it possible that the format of the video I'm importing is the cause?
Since my Kodak still camera creates video clips in the Quick Time format, I
have to convert them to .avi files first before MM will recognise them. Could
it be that converted fils behave differently when imported into MM?

This has been very frustrating! There is nothing intuitive about using MM. I
found I MOvie to be much more capable and easire to use the one chance I had
to try it out. I'm ready to return this new HP I bought and buy the computer
I should have in the first place. A G-5 IMAC!

I Movie will recognise Quick Time video clips without having to convert them
first. among many other benefits.

Unfortunately that is how Windows Movie Maker treats all the clips which
come from differetn physical files.

To overcome it, on the toolbar above press Collection button. This will
remove the task pane and show all the collections as folder list. Now go to
each subcollection that was made for each clip and drag the clip inside into
the root collection folder.

Rehan,

Thanks for your input. I was finally able to figure out how to do what I
wanted, but it wasn't very intuitive. I also have Intervideo Windvd Creator
and it works the way I would have expected when importing video.

I just bought this HP so I'm not sure I'm going to keep it. I'm going to
take a look at IMacs later this week. I'm thinking that their video editing
software is considerably easier to use and considerably more capable.

Besides, I love making videos using video clips from my still camera and
sinc eit records in .MOV format, neither MM of DVD Creator can recognise that
format, so I have to convert. I'd rather not bother with that either.

Anyway, thanks again for your assistance.

I cannot understand.
I, too, can only see one clip in my Collections Pane at a time.
while this makes good sense, I cannot multiply-select clips to add them to
my storyboard as it implies I should be able to do in the Help section.
If I have 63 clips, then I have to view each one and drag it across to
storyboard, which is a huge pain!
Can you help?
