Unable to capture video

I have a Panasonic Digital Palmcorder MultiCam Camcorder,
Model #PV-DV402 and have Windows XP Home Edition on my
computer. I am using a firewire card/cable to capture
video from the camera. However, when I click on "capture
video" I get an error saying Movie Maker program is not
responding. I know the system is recognizing the camera
but MM2 is not capturing video. Any suggestions as to
what the problem may be?

When I tried capturing a movie from a digital camera, it
stops short before the clip is finished. The display
screen freezes but it tells me that it is still
recording. After exporting and viewing, the click has not
recorded everything.

Any ideas?

I have a similar problem.
I use an Adaptec IEEE 1394/FireWire CardBus on both laptops.
I capture video for 4 seconds to 10 seconds - audio and video. Looks fine. I have an error message in Roxio that indicates a memory problem:
Runtime error! pmstudio.exe abnormal program termination. The instructions at "Ox73dd1351" referenced at "Ox00000004" memory could not be read.

I have a Sony digital handicam DCR-PC100 NTSC. I have tried capturing video from it on two laptops. I have the same problem on both. I have tried using MS Movie Maker on one and Roxie on the other. Same results, though only when using Roxio do I get the above memory explanation.

What I find when I check out the event log is as follows:
Details
Product: Windows Operating System
ID: 1002
Source: Application Hang
Version: 5.2
Symbolic Name: ER_HANG_LOG
Message: Hanging application %1, version %2, hang module %3, version %4, hang address 0x%5.

Explanation
The indicated program stopped responding. The message contains details on which program and module stopped responding. A matching event with EventID 1001 might also appear in the event log. This matching event displays information about the specific error that occurred.


User Action
No user action is required.

I had the same issue with my DV103 under XP Pro. Movie Maker would
give the same error while a demo version of Sonic Foundry's Vegas program
worked flawlessly. The error appeared in my case to be related to the
current user not having Administrator privileges. Try to use the "Run
as..." option when launching Movie Maker and give the Administrator
password. It worked fine for me.

Unless of course your account already has Administrative privileges, in
which case I have no idea!

Just to let those who have read about this problem that I have not solved it yet, though I tried several things based on recommendations on papajohn's site.
I may need to try removing more possible conflicts and starting over
