    - Trouble with Video Clips And Saving video I recently began making a new video project and nothing was wrong with any of the clips. The next time I went back , the video clips in my collection folder would not match up with the ones I added to the storyboard. It's hard to explain exactly what's wrong but I'll do the best I can. What happens is that say the video clip is clip number 005, when I add the clip to the storyboard it becomes clip number 008 but it still says 005. It's like the clip jumps ahead or something. Why is this and what can I do to fix it? Also whenever I try to save my video it gives me an error saying: Windows cannot save the movie to the specified location. Verify that the original source files used in your movie are still avaliable, that the saving location is still available, and that there is enough free disk space available , and then try again. I have checked my source files and nothing has been deleted or renamed, I have checked my saving location and nothing seems wrong with it, and I have enough free disk space!     - IEEE 1394 with free software...is free good? I'm about to buy a simple IEEE 1394 card, there are many, I narrowed down to pure Firewire (no USB) and found some for $13-25, but noticed one for around $30 that has ULEAD "SE" software....I think that's the way-scaled down version of regular software, or maybe it's a trial disk, don't know. Is something like this worth it, or should I just skip it and stay with pure electronics... is the software so scaled down as to be outdated for current standards, or barely useful for doing a good job on a movie project.     - Class Not Registered I have followed the directions detailed by PapaJohn and Dean Rowe following my problems with a bad installation of MM 2.1. However, I am still having problems with the Preview facility. If I place a clip into the timeline the preview buttons remain dead. However, if I then click on the Tools option menu and select Titles & Credits, three of the Preview buttons become live (Play, Stop and Take Picture). However, when I click on these buttons the error message Class Not Registered is displayed.     - Video transitions Just a straight question I hope. Just prepared a very small photo presentation with accompanying music and some video transitions.     - Want your opinion on saving video clips I have 40 hours of tapes I want to put on DVD. I have started copying the tapes to my pc using MM2. I am going through each very quickly and doing simple editing (I get about 1 hour of video from each 2 hour tape). My plan is create a folder for each tape called Tape1, Tape2, etc.... I am keeping my video clips to no more than 10 minutes each and called the Tape1a, Tape1b, etc... After all tapes have been copied I plan to go back to each clip and divide it into smaller clips with better names like Bayby_rolls_over, New_puppy, etc.... I then plan to grab various clips to make different dvds such as a dvd of all my son's birthdays and another of all my vacations. Does this make sense? Am I forgetting anything?     - Turning off WMM Compression I've had a problem with Windows Movie Maker 2. Every time I save my movie file, it always compresses the file to death. If I set the compression settings high, it sets the output size to 640 x 480; I need it to be 320 x 240. Is there anywhere a "Full Frames, Uncompressed" compression option? Thanks.     - Burn to R/W DVD or R-only DVD My DVD combo unit reads and can burn Read- or Read/write DVDs and CDs. Music, of course, won't work on a standard in-car or in-house CD player if it's burned to a re-usable R/W CD...has to be burned to a (one-use) Read-only CD. How about DVDs. I want to create, then play them in the in-house (compoent) DVD player in the living room. Do I have to burn a "project" (I think that's what they call an edited movie) to a read-only DVD, or can I burn and change and re-burn to a R/W DVD...seems that'd be a lot less expensive.     - audio sync problems I'm not trying to ADD alternative audio to my video. I'm simply trying to get the audio to sync up to the video. All I'm doing is loading video directly from MiniDV via firewire. It was recommended that I do that in .AVI format in order to sync.     - DVD Playback? I have read through many of these posts and figured out most of the issues I'm having, but I'm now stuck and in need of help. I'm creating an 11 minute slideshow in Movie Maker that I need saved on a DVD. I have been using Sonic to burn this onto DVD. I saved it as a dv-avi file and was able to burn it to a DVD+R disc using Sonic. I can get it to playback using my home and work PC, but it's not working on my DVD Player.     - making DVD from Windows Movie Maker-help ASAP I've made a movie in Windows Movie Maker, then realized that it won't work with regular DVD player. I saved it as DV-AVI file on my computer (3GB). Tried to open the .AVI file from Pinnacle Studio 8, it won't recognize the file Tried to use Nero and it won't recognize the file neither (I can use some help here as well on how to convert the .AVi to a DVD) Downloaded ULEAD converter, and it gave me error that 'failed to save destination file'.     - Hard Drive space I've been wondering about this for several days. I'm capturing video. I have a hard drive that is 153 GB it looks like.     - Can not save movie in WMM 2.1 Problem Description: Same old error message "WMM could not save....source file....insufficient disk space....check....try again..." Only with WMV format. Here's a 54 second snippet to help answer. http://www.papajohn.org/video/SampleStory_Movie.wmv First I made a story from a single 8+ megapixel still image.... panning and zooming in PS3 makes use of all the available pixels... saved it to a 1024x768 story wmv file at 189 Kbps. Then I used the story as a source file to a movie, adding text and music, and rendered it to a 640x480 wmv file at 768 Kbps...     - problems with lip sync video to music... I'm doing music video's and I'm having difficulties with getting my video clips to sync up with the word's/lyrics of subject singing... Don't misunderstand me, it's possible but it is proving to be extremly difficult. Am I missing something, perhaps some sort of code when I'm shooting the clip so I can line it up more accurately with the audio track? Usually when I do get the clip to sync up, if I drop in a transition leading to the next clip it will somehow move the previous clip (that I just spent an eternity on) out of sync again.........maybe I need to upgrade to a more adequate program?     - How to remove MM 2? I have a client whos' MM 2 seems to be damaged. (Some of his tabs for options simply don't exist.) I suggested re-installing MM 2, but the problem is that you can only get it via Updates. Of course the update reads the system and it says MM 2 is already installed so it refuses to allow him to download it again. To make it worse, I see no possible way to remove it from his system to get the update site to download it. This is the worst catch 22 I've ever seen with updates... Any suggestions?     - How buy quality IEEE 1394 card/cable? These cards and cables seem all over the board in price, I wondered how to get best value. Setup is... I'm using a WinXP(pro) PC with Windows Movie Maker, and connecting a Sony digital camcorder, abt 3 yrs old. Is there anything to watch out, and make sure I do or don't get when it comes to buying card/cable. Don't need more USB ports. So far found these... -Most in-store cards $25-50. Most cables around $25-30, some online ones are cheaper but loaded with shipping/handling. -Tiger Direct. Found via Amazon. Has a IEEE 1394 card for PCI slot, plus cable for $12.97, plus about $7 shipping. Seems like a great deal. Are there any "watch out for's" for something this inexpensive?     - Using S-video cable, get no audio When I connect camcorder to PC card using S-video cable and try to capture the video, I get no audio. But when I use an RCA-plug connection, I get audio. I wondered if anyone had ideas on how to fix the S-video connection problem. Here's setup. SYSTEM. WinXP(pro) PC with Windows Movie Maker, and connecting a Sony digital camcorder, abt 3 yrs old. The PC has an ATI Radeon 9000pro all-in-wonder multimedia card...it has a purple cable that ends into a big block that has 4 connectors...S-video, RCA-left, RCA-right, RCA-video. RCA-PLUG CAMCORDER CONNECTION. The camera can output to the three RCA plugs (wht, red, yellow), and the ATI card can accept this. When used, works fine, but would still like to use simpler s-video, and resolve its problem S-VIDEO CAMCORDER CONNECTION. The camera can output to S-Video and the ATI card can accept same. I linked with s-video cable. But no audio during capture. Don't think it's cable...it buzzes out perfectly with volt/ohm meter. Don't think its audio card because the card gets "TV-tuner" sound, plus microphone, CD, and all else. Also, (X) Line-In is checked in Windows, I think. (Oddly, in Windows, for "Recording Controls" you can only check one at a time from choices... Line-in, TAD-in, Auxillary, etc.) Thanks for any suggestions, George Tag: Thanks for the help and advice.     - WMM constantly freezing! Help! When I first started using WMM a while ago it worked perfectly, I don't remember having any problem; but after the first video I made I started having trouble with it, now it is constantly freezing on me. Sometimes if I just sit there and wait a little while it will unfreeze, but other times it won't unfreeze no matter how long I wait so I have to open the task manager and exit out that way. It won't even go 5 minutes without freezing AT LEAST once! Needless to say, it is extremely difficult and frustrating to make a video this way! I have to constantly save every few minutes in case it freezes and I have to exit out AGAIN. I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling it but it didn't help at all.     - mpeg-2 source files I have discovered that MM2 cannot import MPEG-2 files, despite the claim that these files are supported. Does anyone know if microsoft has any plans on fixing this issue?     - Re: If you get a chance can you test the speed? You would not believe how many PPLE from the U.S., Canada and some other countries are coming to New Orleans to cook and feed PPLE. Thanks to all and all were excellent ideas. I am teaching my 4 grand-kids on weekends to come up with new, creative ideas about everything in life. So I really go for this constantly new stuff. Because Katrina changed 'September' the song by Green Day, "Wake me when Sept ends" is part of slides and a video. It is very large so it needs to be listed for high speed broadband so no one's connection is bogged down. Future viewers will have several options starting with the slower / dial up working down the page to faster options.     - MM records blank files Hi, I have an Avermedia AverDVD EZMaker card that I use for transferring video from analogue VCR to disk for editing and burning to DVD. Sound and video show in the capture preview, but when I start capture the file size shows as 5kb, and the timer stays at 0. When I end capture and 'Finish' an error message pops up saying that the device is not responding. The saved file is blank, no sound or video, but runs for the approprate amount of time and is greater than 5kb. This is a recent problem, it used to all work fine.     - Movie Maker Crashing I have a laptop and use a fire connect for notebooks afw-1430a ieee 1394/firewire cardbus. When I try to transfer video from my sony 8mm digital handycam to the laptop via firewire and windows movie maker it freezes the entire computer. I can't even turn the computer off properly.     - Enable DMA transfer I am uploading video from my old 8mm camera using USB Videobus II. The picture I am getting is a bit rough and the installation manual says I should enable DMA transfer for hard drives to improve the quality. I don't know how to do this. Can someone point me in the right direction for this or provide another suggestion as to how to improve the quality of picture Also the picture is displaying in black and white, is this normal?     - MM closes when importing video When I attempt to bring a video into MM by using "Import into collections" and open the folder which contains the videos, MM closes.     - wmm crashes immediately I upgraded my videocard from a Matrox g-400 to an Invidia Geforce 6600 card. Since then, I am unable to successfully launch wmm. I consistently get a "Windows Movie Maker has encountered a problem and needs to close" error. exception Info: Code 0xc0000005 Flags: 0x00000000 Record: 0x0000000000000000 Address 0x0000000060cbb2af etc,etc.... I have a PIII 1.13gHz w/512 mb, 440watt ps, 2 150gig hds on 2 different ide controllers. I have several other videocentric programs, including Vegas 4,DVD Architect 1.0, Muvee AutoProducer 4.1, WinDV 1.2.3, Bluff Titler, Ulead Cool 3D 3.5, Title Deko, etc. The only impact is losing the ability to run WMM, all other programs play nice with my new Video card. I have the latest drivers. I was told on another forum that this is a known issue with Geforce cards, which suprises me becuse they are currently more mainstream than my former Matrox board. Is there any info on what, short of giving up on WMM (no great loss, but there are some useful affects and filters I will miss) or changing back to my older Matrox card (which is MUCH slower in 3D, and does not have T&L, and Ansiotropic filtering, etc.?)
