    - Can't get video to capture automatically from a DV camera I have been using Windows MM2 to try to capture DV from a Canon MVX200i. The camera is connected to the PC via an IEEE 1394 cable. When running the vidoe capture wizrd I can't get the program to capture from the tape automatically. I select 'Capture from video device ' in the movie task pane. The wizard starts but does not show the 'Video Capture Device' page; although the top of the next page shows the device as being a Canon DV device. I enter a name for the clip and choose a save to location. I then select 'Next' and come to the video settings page and choose the DV-AVI format (although I have tried this with other settings as well). I then select 'Next' and proceed to the 'Capture Video' page. For some reason I can't get to the 'Capture Method' page to select 'Capture the entire tape automatically'. I can capture manually on the capture video capture page so the video can be transferred between the camera and the PC. I have read the camera manuals, WMM2 help both on the PC and online and can't find a solution. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? -- Newbie Tag: Sticking DVDs Tag: 42545

    - Movie Maker changes chronological order of clips When I import an .avi file into Movie Maker, the order of the clips in the clip pane doesn't follow the order they were recorded in with my video camera. I originally captured the video using the wizard that XP opens up when the camera is attached. I'm assuming the order doesn't get screwed up during capture, since I start the tape at the beginning and let it go to the end. This happens with all my tapes. If I chose various options for the "Arrange Icons By", none of them order them up by their original time and date stamp. Most of the clips get ordered, but some do not. It's really frustrating, because if I assemble clips together to make an avi, and then later import that avi, the order is no longer necessarily the same in which I created it.     - Newbie needs help I am running XP SP2, and using WMM 2.01. I have captured the video from my SONY DCR-HC30, and I was able to minipulate the program as far as the title and trailer go.     - Trying to get sound with MM and Dazzle DVC 80 I'm trying to use a Dazzle DVC 80 with Movie Maker 2.1 and I can capture the images, but when I click on finish, the program just sits there until I finally close it out with the usual Ctrl-Alt-Del dance. The video is saved, but no sound. In Device manager, DAzzle DVC 80 (2) #3 is shown as an imaging device and in the sound area it shows Dazzle DVC 80 Audio (2). I was able to update the Audio drivers to the XP drivers, but I get error messages when attemmpting to upgrade the Video drivers. Any suggestions?     - Will not open! Says required audio hardware cannot be found! I don't know what I did, but all of a sudden my Movie Maker will not open at all. I get an error saying that it cannot operate due to the required audio hardware cannot be found. Microsoft.com will not let me download it and reinstall. Can anyone ehre help me out?     - DV-AVI not available for capture This is the first time I'm trying to capture video from my Sony DCR-TRV70 miniDV camera. Movie Maker recognizes it, but when walking throught he capture wizard, "Digital device format (DV-AVI)" is grayed-out and not a choice under Video Setting. Why isn't this available?     - Video Slows And Audio Skips In DV-AVI I have to save a movie in DV-AVI format but the video slows when it gets to a transition and then the audio skips (this in when saved as DV-AVI). I've tried the uncompressed audio thing and it still happens. I have captured the video from my Panasonic Mini-DV cam in this format no problem. Is there any other format (say MPEG) that i can forge into WMM, becuase according to these other comments on this page i doubt there is anything i can do to fix this problem.     - Windows Movie Maker Problem Hi i have a problem that keeps getting worse and worse. First of all I have Windows XP for my emachine computer. Windows Movie Maker (not sure what version or anything) keeps freezing up on me.     - Saving to CD Hi - new to Movie Maker but I managed to muddle my way through it. I was able to edit clips and add music to the movie. I can play the movie from my computer. My problem comes when I try to copy the movie to a CD - the program runs through the process but appears to stall out with about 55 seconds left - I have left it run for quite some time - but program does not finish.     - Video Capture Problems in MM2 I have a Dell desktop, 1.8GHz P4 with 768MB RAM, firewire and 32MB ATI Rage video card. I recently upgraded my RAM from 256MB. My capture settings are High Quality NTSC, 720 x 480 at 30 FPS with no screen preview. I'm using my Sony DCE-HC32. The problem that I am having is that the first 1:30 to 1:40 minutes of capture looks really good, then after this the capture starts to get really jerky and choppy.     - Problem Saving A Edited Clip Trying to learn video terminology. I edit a clip properly. The trim line is at the proper spot. I split or cut and save the new clip. I know that split and cut are 2 different actions. Tried both-No luck. What I don't understand is: When I get out of MM2 and then go back, why does the original full clip show up instead of the edited clip? Example: Play clip to remove commerical. Commerical cut or split. New clip saved. Get out of program and later restart. The commerical is still there. 1) What am I doing wrong? 2) What happens to the clip I saved?     - best way to store an avi file for later use After using movie maker 2 to create an avi file for home movies, I have created a DVD using Sonic my DVD for watching on TV. The original avi file which took my raw video footage plus my edits is now on my computer taking up space. In the past I have just erased that video. I now find that I would like to use some of that video footage in creating another video and I can retrieve my original VHS tapes and, using my DV camera, digitalize them and input into my computer, essentially repeating what I did the first time. I am wondered what other solutions there are to saving my edited avi file so I do not need to go back to VHS tapes. I know I can put the file back onto DV tape and then if I need a clip or something i can get at it - but it is a bit tedious I suppose. I was wondering if I could compress the avi file in some way that I could store an hour or more of it on a dvd so that i can pull off the file, restoring it to avi, should I need it again on my computer. I suppose this gets into some sort of compressed file type but perhaps once you convert out of an avi file you cannot revert and I do not know whether the compressed file types have enough quality to be used to make a DVD for viewing on TV.. I had thought of some backup program that would compress the file and allow me to restore it, but I am not sure if that is workable. I have read a little but enough to know all file compression programs for video are "lossy" and so I wonder what is the best approach. The DV tape - will that hold up over time - as long or as short as analog VHS tape - and is that the most economical solution. An external hard drive would be cost prohibitive I think given the growing video footage. What other suggestions do you have? Although myDVD uses open video format and allows for some editing directly from DVD, it does not really let you easily get at the original files and so might be limiting thanks alan Tag: Sticking DVDs Tag: 42505

    - Window Movie maker 2.1 I have a Dell pc, and had to reformat and reinstall Windows xp sp1. I did have Windows Movie Maker 2, but after I reinstalled xp, the 1st edition apears on Windows. I can't figure out how to get the new version (the one I had). Luckly I did copy my hard drive to another hard drive, so I can attempt to run it from there.     - AVI to AVI If you save a movie as a DV-AVI in WMM2 and then reimport back into WMM is there any loss of quality. I understand going from WMM back to a camera it maintains the quality can the same be said from WMM to WMM? Here is the why I am asking the question. When I save to DV-AVI, I am getting some audio pops on scene changes when I use a Fade transition to go one from one scene to another (but not every Fade transition). I checked Papa John's site and followed his and others' suggestions about not using MP3 for the additional audio track. So I converted the MP3 to WMA, same result; I converted the MP3 to WAV, same audio pops. I then removed the secondary audio track altogether and resaved as a DV-AVI and I still get the audio pops. I checked the original footage and there are no pops in the audio, they are only there when I save to AVI from WMM and obviously remain there when I convert to MPEG and burn to DVD Could the dreaded 27th frame problem be rearing its ugly head on my audio? Also, another odd thing; I imported the AVI file, without the secondary audio track, into a copy of Premiere Elements and I heard the "spikes" in the audio track.     - Everything works in WMM2 except the preview monitor??? I have tried many of the solutions listed in various places. Movies can be edited and saved and then viewed in media player but the preview monitor does not work. The preview monitor says "stopped" and flickers a little that's it.     - HELP! WMM is DRIVING ME NUTS! OK, so I see that a lot of people have had the same problems as me but none of the solutions have worked for me. I have scoured PJ's site and this NG but WMM is still crapping out on me. I had the problem of it crashing as soon as I start it up and I finally narrowed it down to renaming qedit.dll. Oddly enough, if I renamed it to qedit.dll.bad it still crashed, if I named it qeditbad.dll WMM would open (although I did receive an error message from DirectX 9 saying that changing that file name may make my system unstable). I also uninstalled anything that had anything to do with transitions that I could find but intervideo. I did rename the dir for intervideo and WMM would still not load. The only thing that would let it load was to rename qedit.dll. OK, so now WMM is loaded and it lets me capture video from my camcorder (44 min video) and when it comes time to import the vid into the working space, i get "<filename>.wmv could not be imported.     - Slightly OT: recomendations on DV tapes Poll: what kind of DV tapes are you using and what kind of results are you getting ? with 2 sons playing little league football (american football ) and two daughters involved in dance, drama, and cheerleading, I recently find myself using 3-4 tapes per week, and am finding that I get bad results after re-using a tape just a few times. is this common, does anyone re-use their tapes frequently without hitting "bad spots" ?? just curious.     - transitions Hi, I am a high school art teacher who is trying to help a student make a stop motion animation. Our first 50 frames are black. The next frames are part of our stop motion animation. We would like to put a video transition between the black frames and the first frames of the animation. When we drag the transition down and try to place it between the frames, we get the "ghostbuster circle with the slash" and can't drop it. What are we doing wrong?     - OT but hopeful someone can help. Recently bought a Sony Mini DV camcorder. Perfect picture quality in most respects but one. Taking video of a kids stage show it was mostly OK except for when spotlights were at a certain part of the stage the resultant video was overbright and "flared". Have gone through the camera manual hoping maybe there was some setting I could use to avoid this but couldn't find anything. Has anyone come across this and knows a solution.     - Brightness question After I edit a video with Windows Movie Maker. I view the movie in Window Media Player 10.0 then I change the brightness setting because the video is too dark, I get a Green haze on the bottom half of the video. Why is that?     - Lost Effects I have two systems with XP. One with MCE one XP Pro. Movie Maker is on both, and from what I see on the About panel, they are identical. On one system, in the Effects view, I see several effects that allow for zooming/panning etc. of the picture. On my other system, I do not see these effects. Just the basic ones.     - Audio mixing in Movie Maker I'm trying to fade down a music track in a movie to allow the video track to be heard and then fade the music track back up again. I've found the slide that switches between the two tracks but whatever changes I make as the movie progresses aren't saved. It just reverts to whatrever level the slide is left at. Any clues?     - Adjust slide duration to match music length? In PhotoStory? I want a quick way to throw a bunch of pictures and two songs together to make a video slideshow. I want the photo duration to be automatically adjusted to match the length of whatever song(s) I choose. Is this possible in MovieMaker? How about in PhotoStory? I saw a post in this forum from a few months ago suggesting that PhotoStory3 could do this, but I don't see the option. Can anyone offer advice?     - Blank space at end of video I had this problem and tried this newsgroup. Then I tried all the suggestions made but still had the same result. I then clicked on "show storyboard" and then clicked the + magnifying glass. As I scrolled from the end of my video to the end of the blank space, I came accross a small audio file that some how got stuck near the end of the blank space. I deleted that file and my video snapped back to the place I expected it to be. Just when you think you know it all, some other thing pops up. Why do the DVDs I made last stop for anoying pauses about 20 minutes
into the movie? Might it be that I started Using SONY DVD+RW rather
than TDK DVD+RW which seemed to work better. If I'm not mistaken somone
else was having this jerky play DVD problem before.
