Using Analog VHS camcorder to transfer video/audio to PC. Have connected with
S Video cable and composite type cable for audio. PC captures Video and will
play back, no problem. The audio although under properties for this file
shows up as Bit Rate 88 kpbs, channels 2, sample rate 44.1 khz, sample size
16 will not play back in WMM. I'm assuming its captured the audio since these
specs are displayed under properties. Cross checking these numbers with the
sample video supplied with WMM the Bit Rate is 32 and the kHz is 32 and of
course it plays fine. Please advise!

Movie Maker doesn't work with analog connections.
You need some type of video pass-through device such as a digital camera
with the pass-through feature or a dazzle80 or similar device. Otherwise you
need to use the software that came with the capture card then convert from
MPEG to AVI to edit in Movie Maker.

This may sound stupid but how do I determine what software came with the
capture device in my Pc? This is a stock PC all hardware and pretty much all
software came as an original package from HP.
Thanks.

a 'stock PC' usually doesn't come with an analog capture device that works
with Movie Maker....

it's an add-on which you would know about by having installed it.

Well if your PC has the analog input's it presumably has a capture card and
therefore has software to go with it. Did you purchase a name brand PC that
you can tell me the make/model of or was it custom built?
