I'm a newbie when it comes to MM2. I really like the program, it is far
better and easier to use than Nero 6. I created my first movie in MM2 then
burned it to DVD using Nero, but I am very dissatisfied that I lose the scene
changes when I go into the DVD authoring application.

So while I'd like to continue using MM2 (it works *fine* for what I want to
do with the mini-DV home movies of my kids) I'd also like to explore a more
complete application that lets me keep my scene changes and use those as DVD
chapters directly. Currently I have to do these steps separately and it's
really a waste of time.

So my questions would be:

1. Can any DVD authoring application read the MM2 project file and use my
scenes as DVD chapters?
2. Is there an all-in-one package like Sony's "Click to DVD" that can
combine these steps?

Basically, I want to do something a bit more polished than directly burning
a DVD from my tapes, but I don't want to spend more than about 20-30 minutes
in front of the computer (capturing, encoding and burning times excluded).
Suggestions?

Thanks,

- Leo

I'd like to have my bills paid without working, but I have to put in the
time for the payoff. MAYBE YOU NEED TO BE LOOKING FOR THE MOST EXPEDITIOUS
application for creating chapter points instead of something that doesn't
exist to do it for you. I use easy media creator 7.... creating chapter
points is fast and precise. However, you do have to actually click the mouse
button at each chapter point.

good luck with your search

Hello Randy,

I thought I had made it clear that I'm a newbie. No need to accuse me of
laziness, I think the question is a fair one and not at all obvious. If the
answer is that no such software exists, so be it.

I happen to like how MM2 works when doing scene selection, and I simply want
to leverage its clean, fast interface. I am assuming that no third-party
application can read the MM2 project file, in which case I'll either go with
the best authoring application that I can find or I'll do more research into
applications that perhaps do retain this information. It's so obvious a
feature that I have a hard time believing it's unavailable; more likely it's
a matter of how much I'm willing to spend to get it.

Your expectations are justified. It would be ideal if MM2 can itself burn
the bloody DVD. It wouldnt be technically difficult to put that feature
in... but unfortunately other factors must have influenced MS decision in
this regard. Many people also find it shocking that XP cannot play DVDs out
of the box... you need another $15 worth of DLL... These missing features in
MM2 give a lot of disappointment to many who fall for its simple interface.
One of the most asked questions on this newsgroup is how to burn a DVD in
MM2...

MM2 stops short of making itself an end to end editing+authoring+burning
software because somewhere in MS they thought to save another $10 worth of
component.
