Hi there,
Does this problem occur when you run any other program? if yes then you
have a problem that is outside the scope of this newsgroup.
How large is your virtual memory and is it set so that XP decides the size?
If XP is not set to determine the size itself, then you should change the
settings so that it does. If your system then starts to fail it is a strong
indication that you do not have enough free space on your hard drive. This
issue is also outside the scope of this newsgroup, however...one hours
worth of DV-AVI will take up something between 12 to 16GB of hard disk
space, depends on the content, quickly changing video picture = larger file
size, so if you have anything like that on your 20GB hard drive, then you
have no hope of trouble free operation.
256MB of RAM is on the low side really, Windows XP will automatically take
more RAM up as it becomes available up to an upper limit. I don't know what
the upper limit is for XP, but for 98 it was around 350MB. My system has
1.5GB RAM and I guess at the moment that 1GB of it is actually free. You
should do a search for the free program "FREEMEM" or any other similar
utility and let it run in the background, it might help...but again, this
is outside the scope of this newsgroup.
