    - Trying to reinstall MM for XP Pro - install cannot copu moviemk.ex When I try startup Movie Maker, it comes up but then ends before I can see any error. I am trying to reinstall it by going to %systemroot%\inf and right clicking on moviemk.inf. The install dialog box pops up asking for location of moviemk.ex_. I navigate to the XP PRO SP2 install CD on D:\i386 where I see the moviemk.ex_ file, and press OPEN and then I get error "Cannot Copy moviemk.ex_" I try RETRY. No luck.     - can't edit asf MovieMaker crashed as I stopped a capture of a broadcast program. Instead of a WMV file I ended up with an ASF file that plays in WMP, but can't be played or edited in MM. As a last resort I can play it into a vcr and play the tape and capture again, or I can connect two computers and capture again without a vcr, but I hope someone has a trick for fixing the file.     - StudioMovieBox I bought SMB 10 b/c I thought it would reduce the steps for analog capture(dvd/vcr player to make a DVD and then conversion program for use in MovieMaker). However, when I captured a small test piece of video in mpeg, the video was jumping. I figured since it was captured in mpeg, I could then just import it into MM. When I tried to import it into a collection, the green bar quickly moved across on top but nothing on the bottom bar. The hourglass just kept whirling till I CtrlAltDeleted it about 10 minutes later. )Window Media Player does play it, however.) I was told at Best Buy that this program was similar to Dazzle but could also output. Pinnacle support said that once I made it into a movie .avi I could import it into MM but from reading other postings on the topic it looks like this would also need to be converted to a different type of avi file.     - forming a gap w/pictures How can I add pictures to my timeline in sections? For exam: I want to jump to the middle or end of the movie that I am making & add pictures to match the audio. But WMM seems to only let me drag the audio that I have added (forming a gap in audio) and not the pictures. It appears that I can only add pictures to the next empty frame available in sequence and not later to where I have the audio in advance.I can drag the picture & lengthen it, but it doesnt 'budge' to a different frame or area creating a gap, as when I do it with audio.     - Can't save movie files I keep getting the following message: "Windows Movie Maker cannot save movie to specified location. Verify that the original source files used in your movie are still available, that the saving location is still available, and that there is enough free disk space available, and then try again." All of the above are OK, the files are there, the location is OK and 70GB should be enough space for a 7MB file. Sometimes when I first start it lets me do one, but not if I change something and try to re-save (even in a different dir with a different name). Sometimes even newly created files don't save. It's really frustrating cos I'm making pretty simple files - one 2min vid, title, credit and a couple of transitions in between so it's nothing too stressful for a brand new dell with XP. I've got other vid software but having made vids for my website before, i want to keep using Movie Maker as all my previous vids have been made by it and I'm trying to have some consistency.     - I cannot import anything at all into Windows Movie Maker Every time I try to import something into Windows Movie Maker, whether it be video, sound, or images, this error message always pops up, "(fille name here)could not be imported.     - MPG or other media file to big Hi Folks, I have what seems like a major problem to me, but will no doubt be easy for you experts out there! I have a movie file on my hard-drive which is 1.6 mega bits. I would like to copy this to a disk and play it on my dvd player. The problem is I can only use disks which are no more than 700mb and I would like to copy this file and watch it on my dvd player. is there a way round this, such as splitting the movie onto two disks or shrinking it.     - can't save project correctly Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated. I started a project in WMM for Mother's Day. Alas, still working on it. My prob, cannot save project to CD, DVD or to comp as an AVI. Save project when burned to CD from HD pictures missing and eventually goes black, about 1/2 way thru, audio still there however.     - Kodak EasyShare Video to Windows Movie Maker My daughter needs to make a movie for school and the only video recorder we have is on our Kodak Digital Camera. Microsoft Movie Maker makes a much better video, but it won't accept the .mov file extension. Can I just change the extension? If so, how????     - LOSSES IN CUTTING/PASTING DV? I understand that when I transfer DV directly from my videocam, I have an exact copy on my computer of what I had on tape. If I use WMM to cut & paste, (resequence) portions of my original DV, and then save the finished movie back to computer in DV-AVI format, are there any losses involved? In other words, does WMM simply copy the portions from the original DV file to the 'final' file, or does it convert the DV into some other format internally and then recode it back to DV for the save step???     - Can't Save Movie but Could I With The Vista Version? I have a very large project I completed. About 800 jpg pictures, each with a transition. Each picture is set to play for 2.5 seconds with a transition of .5 seconds. The entire show is about 40 minutes and the entire show is set to music. Of course, it won't save the movie. I want to save to DVD and first it saves to the PC but it won't even start to save. Eventually after no progress the error box comes up. My PC is brand new, 2 Gb of memory, 250 Gb hard drive, Pentium D 915 2.8GHz (Dual-Core) processor with Intel VII. I have a new lap top I bought as a gift and it has VISTA. I'm wondering if the Vista version of Movie Maker would handle this where XP doesn't? If so, how would I transfer from one PC to the other? When I started my website, it was mostly about mini-DV camcorders, which I sorted into separate pages by brand name.... then by model numbers on the pages The info has grown stale as the mini-DVs are getting to be few and far between... to freshen it, I'm totally restructruing those sections and pages. The menu now has a single branch for Cameras and Capture Devices, with two sub-branches... 1 --- 'Types' is a new one, into which I'll move existing info and add new stuff... it has pages for Film, 8mm tape, Hi8 tape, mini-DV tape, DVD, Hard Drive, Digital Cameras, Webcam, and Cell Phone. 2 --- 'Brand Names'... has the older pages with whatever info is left as I move info into the new pages... some model or brand specific issues will remain on those pages Over the weekend I got a chance to play with my son's new Sony Hard Drive camcorder... a model DCR-SR42 that records MEG2 files to a hard drive... I tested the conversion process on his laptop and mine, to get the files to DV-AVI format and into Movie Maker.     - What file type should I use? I have read several topics on this sbject including the very informative articles by Graham Hughes but I'm still confused. I'm using a Desktop with 250GB HD, 1GB Memory, DVD Burner & firewire cable. If I capture using DV-AVI and check the box for "Create Clips when Video finishes" the system doesn't break the file into clips as it does when I select WMV. The unedited tape is about 15 min. to 20 min. long. After editing it will be less than 10 minutes. What am I doing Wrong? Another question.     - Vista's DVD maker, Re-Rendering with MPEG2 I don't know why if I convert my video to MPEG2, Vista's DVD maker insists on Re-Rendering it again anyway. I didn't have that problem with my old PC (Using Sonic/Roxio, which BTW does not work with Vista). Also Vista takes twice as long to re-render it as my other software does. I really don't like to have to buy all new software. Note: I tried installing Sonic but it removed my DVD drive!!     - MM2 is Grouping my photos I made a movie in Photo Story 3 and saved it to my computer (.wmv). Just photos, transitions, and music. I tried to open it in Movie Maker to see if I could tweak one of the songs to fit the ending of the photos (which I had a hard time doing in Photo Story) and it opened the movie in "groups" of photos. Check my website's Import Movie Source Files > Video > MPEG

If it doesn't work, then converting the file to something that does is the
route.
