Need to go back to MM1
Earlier this year I downloaded and installed Movie Maker
2. I'm finding that it is a beta version, which may
explain why it keeps locking and Task Mgr reports it
as "Not Responding." All I have is the restore CDs from
Compaq, not the actual Windows XP CD, so I'm not sure if
MM1 can be re-installed without completely reloading
Windows.
Does Microsoft provide a MM1 download from their web
site? I have looked at Papa John's web site for help and
know that there is a MM subdirectory under Program
Files. It only contains the executable and some dll
files. All I need to do is to copy those from somewhere
and dump them in that folder.
Yeah, I know, find a friend with XP and copy the files.
Not so easy to do sometimes, plus local PC shops want to
charge to restore some files.

Can't update MM2
Hi,
after having a few problems getting Movie Maker 2 to work
I now have a problem where I cannot get The Winter Pack 2
to load. During the setup it says "setup has detected
that Movie Maker 2 needs to be installed" and points me
to the microsoft url for the download (this has been done
about 5 times).
Also I read on another thread about copying the four
files from "c:\windows\registered packages\{60BFF50D-FB2C-

this folder (moviemk), is anything missing?
Any help would be much appreciated.

I just started using Movie Maker and I can't figure out

like they force you to use about 3 of there programs
before you can actually finish one DVD project.

Scenes omitted during render
Hello,
In preview mode my movie is 17 minutes 55 seconds, but
after rendering (DV-AVI in and DV-AVI out) it is down to
17:35 with one short but important scene gone. That short
scene is about 3 seconds long so there's that and 17 other
seconds missing some or all of which is immediately
following the 3 second scene. The 3 second scene is a
split clip so I could use a different audio volume/mix
than the rest of the clip.
I originally attributed it to insufficient memory. So
yesterday I added 512MB of much needed RAM to the original
128MB. All other performance bottlenecks are gone and
verified that the system recognizes 640MB. Yet my movie
rendered exactly the same way with the same 3 second scene
and 17 additional seconds missing.
Does anyone have experience with some pieces skipped by
the rendering process? Is the scene too short?
thanks,

How can I add the characteristic "black bars" to my movie?
We have a widescreen TV, so I thought it would be cool to
record my home movies in 16:9 format. (This is an
optional setting on our Sony TRV-22 camcorder.) Now, I
have succesfully captured video, edited it, and finished
the movie, and made a DVD with Sonic's MyDVD. It looks
fine on our widescreen TV, but the image gets streched
(vertically) to fit a standard 4:3 TV. I wonder if there
is a way to add those "black bars" to the picture to
prevent this strech from occuring??

Analog Capture Problem!!!!
I'm pulling my hair out by the roots. I simply want to capture video
from my VCR going THRU my Sony Handycam via firewire. I can do this
with USB...no problem. But, when I hook up my firewire to my
Camcorder, the capture Wizard doesn't take me to the Video Capture
Device page..it goes right to the "name the file and choose a
destination" page. I enter this info anyhow. The tape playing on my
VCR is showing in the preview screen, like it should. When I hit the
capture button, it says there is no tape in my Camcorder, and it won't
capture the VCR tape that is currently playing.
I CAN capture directly from my Sony Camcorder to MM2 using
firewire...no problem. It's only when trying to capture from VCR to
MM2 while going thru my Sony using the firewire connection.
If I can't solve this..my only alternative is Russian Roulette. Tag: Problem - 'Capturing Profiles not found' Tag: 7849

MM1 replaces MM2
Hi,
I hope I can explain this clearly enough to get some help.
I had an issue where MM2 kept crashing when trying to
input a transition - This I have sorted thanks to a
previous thread where a codec was the cause.
Now I have a problem where in "C:\program files\movie
maker" the moviemk.exe icon for version 2 is constantly
replaced after every use by the version 1 file (checked
by hovering mouse pointer over icon) and the MM2 icon
becomes "moviemk.exe.tmp" file.
To correct this I am having to copy the moviemk file from
the registered packages folder in C:\windows.
Hope that is clear enough and someone can help.

MM2 - Output Video Quality looks like 12.5FPS
Greetings -
Another question for the group...
I have been playing quite a deal and have found that for
the most part, the output of my videos seems to be quite
notchy. Not notchy in the sense of dropped frames, but in
that it looks like tht output to DV is at 12.5 Frames Per
Second.
It's particularly noticable on moving things whose
physics seem messed up by such an effect. A great example
of this is a moving car, or, the material in a flowing
dress.
I have looked at the original DV tape of this and the
input tape looks great, with no hint of the lower FPS
issue.
I have been working at DV quality for the entire process,
importing from the DV camera direct at full DV quality
(13.5GB for 1 hour, 7 mins).
All output after chopping up to clips seems to be at a
less than full speed frame rate.
Now: When I output to DV-AVI, it *seems* to be fine,
though it's difficult to get the same perspective of
viewing as you get on a TV... It's possible that it's
still not too flashy.
ALL of the output formats that I'm likley to use are
listed as 25 FPS in the output options, so I don't think
it's the output choice I'm stuffing up...
So, with this information in hand, I have some questions:
- Is MM2 capable of full frame rate, full quality DV
output?
- Is there any option or setting I could have mistakenly
set that would cause it to be output at anything less
than 25 FPS?
- Is there anything in terms of interlacing that I
should watch out for? Is this perhaps a result of
interlace / de-interlace or something of that nature?
- Has anyone else seen this kind of behavious and can
they possibly help?
- WHY is it that MM2 in the preview area only supports
frame advance at what I believe to be 2 frames at a time.
- Is there any way to actually get a REAL frame advance?
Questions, questions, questions! ;)
For any information, thanks! :)

Movie Maker vs Movie Maker 2

Windows Movie Maker Version 2.0.3312.0
Do I have Movie Maker or Movie Maker 2? The version says
2 but not the Title.

Captured video plays back fast & how do I manually create clips
1. Every time I capture video from my Sony Handy Cam the
end result (I copy an entire 15 or so minute clip as
one "Clip" in my Collection bin) looks sped up. What I
mean is that the AVI file (which is about 4.3 gigs) plays
in fast forward mode skipping through my video at a
higher rate than it plays on my camera(both in MM2 &
WMP). I'm not using the "Speed Up" effect on this
footage, so I'm a bit perplexed as to why this is
happening.
2. Secondly, once I've loaded in these large clips, I'm
trying to find a way to manually reduce my "one large"
clip to smaller more manageable clips so as to drag these
smaller clips into my timeline. I know there is an
automatic "clip creation" option, but what I'm looking
for is a manual clip creation option which I'm yet able
to find after reading all "how to" materials on both the
application help menu and website help materials.
Thanks for any help you may be able to send my way!

Reduced-Extended clips
Hi all,
A friend of mine is having difficulty with AVI clips that are
inserted into MM2. Here is the problem he is having, in his words:
1) The clips that i put in movie maker are extended. Instead of the
clips ending where i stopped recording, they add a section of blank
black screen at the end of them.
2) Some clips are sliced in half or reduced to some other amount.
When I play them back on real player/media player out of the fraps
folder they are fine....exactly how i recorded them, but regardless
of how many times i take them out and put them back in WMM2 they
always get reduced.
He tried reinstalling MM2 but still has the same problem. Could this
have anything to do with Automatic Clip Detection? We are at a total
loss. Any ideas?

Can't capture video from ATI 7500 ALL-IN-WONDER

Here is my post to WME9 board:
Well WME 9 used to work for me. I tried starting yesterday and it works no
longer. I suspect it's something I added to the system in between, but it's
been months since I used WME last. :-(
The details:
Win XP Pro SP1, Direct X 9, Windows Media Encoder 9
ATI Radeon 7500 ALL-IN-WONDER with Catalyst 3.9
I can launch WME run throught the live broadcast wizard (selecting defaults
all the way) and end up on the prview window where I can see and hear my
camera (composite) input. But when I press the start encoding button, it
fails with a message "Invalid Parameter" or "Unknown Error".
For the record, if I use a prerecorded WMA file from my hard disk, the
encoding works fine. The problem seems to be in using the ATI WDM capture.
Any ideas how to track this down?
