    - PC vs Mac I am currently riding the fence between purchasing a PC laptop or a Mac laptop. I have a PC desktop right now with ME installed on it, and it's been a huge headache for us. We're tempted to go Mac simply because the ME has been a bad experience. The main purpose of the laptop will be for photo and video editing. My wife and I want to make CD's with pictures of our son and send them to relatives. I know you can have them with great transitions and music. I've spoken with several people and I am trying to get a balanced opinion before making any purchase. I've been told that Mac's make the editing process a walk in the park, and part of me is hoping that PC's can also make it easy because I'm very familiar with PC's.     - Preview window not working I am trying to manually transfer clips but the preview window has stopped working and I am getting error messages. I am using a mini Dv camera and a fire wire to transfer video. The computer controls for my DV camera are working fine, but the video is not showing up in the preview window.     - Preview window does not work all of the time I am doing a highlight video for my basketball team. I use a fire wire to transfer video to the computer from my mini DV. The preview window does not show the video as I am trying to manually record clips. The computer controls do fine in controlling my DV camera but recording clips does not work because the preview window is not working correctly.     - Out of sync audio, choppy video Once your in Nero, what is proper settings to burn such as encoding mode 1 pass or 2 pass, recording settings max or something lesser?     - Movie cut off on import to MovieMaker Hi, I made a little mpg movie on my Sony Cyber-Shot. It plays fine in WMP for 23 seconds. However, when I import it to MovieMaker, I only get 21.72 seconds. Unfortunately, I am speaking right through the end, so my last comment gets cut off. How do I get the extra second back?     - Panning in or out on Photo I am exploring Windows Movie Maker today for the first time. I have several pictures in the Timeline, with Transitions. I would like to be able to select a picture and control the panning that appears on the picture. I'd like to start out zoomed in on my son's face and then gradually zoom out to include the rest of the family. I like this feature because it creates a sense of movement, even though its pictures.     - Can't capture resolution higher than 352x288 I use the Leadtek WinFast TV2000 XP capture device to capture analogue (composite) video from my camcorder. After I press the "next" button on the video setting window the following error message appear: "The video device is currently in use. Close any other application that is using.................."     - Saving to DV-AVI loses 6 seconds of movie length Hi there. I am trying to overcome a bug in WMM2 with audio popping when saving to DV-AVI so please someone tell me if I am going about it the wrong way. (The popping apparently comes from the transitions and the audio being saved at the same time; so first I save the slideshow with no audio as an AVI. Then in a second project I use the first silent AVI as the video, add my WMA soundtrack, save as AVI again and voila, no skipping in the final AVI--but it loses 6 seconds). My main goal is to output 12 separate slideshows (with transitions and audio) as separate movies and then burn to DVD using MyDVD. But I do not get that far. An example project has 86 stills and 3 title/overlays with fade transitions in between. I have a WMA file that is 04:41 (4 mins 41 secs) long and I time the transitions using a trick I got from Rehan (thanks by the way) to synch perfectly. In the preview it is great and the audio stops on a dime. However, when I produce any AVI (either the 1st silent or through the 2 pass method) I end up with a shorter movie, namely 4:35 or 6 seconds shorter even though it shows 4:41 in the timeline. It is most obvious when I import the silent AVI into the timeline and it is noticeably shorter. I would not be so picky but the slides are supposed to sync with the music just so and If I just "fade out" early the effect is just not as clean. I use AVIs because of earlier problems I had with WMVs and MyDVD. And to make this more interesting, I do not lose 6 seconds if I save to WMV. Help, please if you can! Tag: Preview Image Tag: 32082

    - WMM only imports one clip at a time I have just returned from a month's holiday. Just before going away I used WMM and there were no problems. On return, I found that when I import a Video clip or mpeg, it removes any existing clips from the collection and only inserts the last clip in the selection to import.     - For my son Tony - Problem using MSMC(2004) and MCMM(2.0.3312.0) Hello Everyone, My son Tony has a large collection of VHS tapes (mostly animation cartoon type) that he has recorded himself over the years. I have also taught him how to use computers since he doesn't go to school. Knowing his VHS (and a few old Beta) tapes will get old and deteriorate, I decided to save up and get him a new computer to transfer the video tapes to DVD. Hopefully to edit also. Therefore, I purchased a Dell 8400 with the video capture card and MS Media Center 2004. (I'm having trouble getting the overseas customer support to assist me in upgrading to MSMC 2005). The media center will capture the video (we are using COAX cable for now), (also have s-video, RCA, and comp jacks if really necessary). However, once the videos are captured using the MSMC we are unable to get the Movie Maker (2.0.3312.0) to allow him to edit his captured video which is in "dvr.ms" format. Is there a better product to help him to capture the analog video from VHS and Beta, then edit/clean up to his pleasure, and finally burn to his double layered DVD writer? I'm willing to try and get better software if it is highly recommended and the cost is not prohibitive. But, If everyone suggests using what we have, could someone tell us how best we do that?     - Sony DCR-TRV520 and I.link/DV Any one have experience with this camera using it as a video capture source? I swear I had it working at one time, quite some time ago, but now MovieMaker says there is no device connected. I have gone round and round on this and am now at my wits end.     - John Kelly? How do you legally host / post videos that contain material with copy rights; movie clips, songs, etc? E.g., clips from James Bond movies, songs from 'Rush', etc?     - "Empty" Video File I tried to import a .mpg file from my harddrive into the movie maker and i keep getting an error message that says the file is "empty" i dont know how to get it into the movie maker and i really need to for a school project.     - Making my movie a DVD I am new to Movie Maker and made (in my opinon) a real good movie. I transferred it from my new Canon Zr80 onto my new Dell Notebook... and it was a breeze. The only thing I dont know how to do is save it/burn it to a dvd. Will someone please help me out here. I dont want this to go to waste and most of my family will only be able to view this if I can get it burned to a DVD.     - Video will not play in preview window I imported a video clip into WMM. A thumbnail of the video does not appear in the icon for that clip. When I play the clip, the audio plays just fine but the screen remains black. If I drag-n-drop the clip into the timeline, only the audio appears there. Furthermore, in the menu bar on the left side of the screen, if I click on Import Video, WMM freezes; this does not happen if I click on Import Audio or Pictures. The only way I can even bring in a video clip is via the File menu. I'm using Win XP on a Sony Vaio PC; this is WMM v.2.1.     - Is it possible to batch save a bunch of movies? I have edited a bunch of movies. Since saving takes awhile it's rather inefficient to edit, save, edit, save, etc. I'd rather edit a bunch and then batch the saves so that that time consuming operation can occur when I'm asleep or at work.     - Can't get to play DVD on standalone player Once project is completed in wmm, what is best way to burn? If I open Nero and Add Video Files, the burning process takes 4 hours for a 40 minute video. If you open project in wmm, and right click on the media file, you can send to sonic which burns the DVD in 2 minutes! Why the difference? Saving the file as DV AVI makes the file 8.28 GB which won't fit on the disk. Saving it as High Quality Video makes the file 471 MB which burns fine. Either way, the disks will not play on a standalone player. When I transferred video from camcorder into wmm and let the defaults save the program as it wanted, it played on the standalone player but the quality was poor as the resolution was low. -- Garyd Tag: Preview Image Tag: 32052

    - Problem getting finished video back to DV camera Hi all, I'm using MM2 on Win XP with SP2 Had no problem capture video with Firewire from my Canon ZR45 MC. Was able to edit, add music, etc. Was able to make an AVI and/or wmv. BUT, when I try to do File, Save Movie File and pick DV camera it doesn't work right. It records it back to the camera but the results are weird as follows: - 3 minute video ends up being 10 minutes on the DV tape - Video constantly cuts in and out (1 sec on 2 off or thereabouts) - The sounds doesn't really come through except in bits and pieces - Not sure if it is significant, but when I play back the original recorded video the screen says "12 bit", but when I try to play back the junk I get from uploading from MM2 it says "16 bit". I don't think it is my hardware. I have an Athlon XP 2200+ (1600 mhz) system with 768 MB ram. And again I had no problem capturing from the camera in the first place.     - Distorted movie Connected Panasonic NV-GS70 Camcorder through Firewire Card & Cable. My XP Home SP2 Device manager shows firewire card and installed properly. To get imaging device recognised it wasn't easy, but i got it and device manager recognised it as Panasinic AV Device and installed corrrectly. I get Distorted movie preview in all formats. By defaults it goes to NTSC and not as PAL. No Automatic Capture window is seen in movie maker wizard. Is this a problem beacuse i have builtin dispaly of 32MB shared memory?     - unable to save in avi format Although I have successfully created DVDs before, I am having this problem with a movie I am creating now. I am able to save this movie in WMV format but when I go to save it as AVI, I get the following error. I know that have plenty of disk space. Movie maker cannot save the movie to the specified location. Verify that the original source files used in your movie are still available, that the saving location is still available, and there is enough disk space, available and then try again.     - WMM 2.1 saved file for the web is not found. When creating a file for the web and then selecting DSL the program converts and saves, and indicates it has been saved successfully. on looking for the saved file it doesn't exist. It should hve bee saved as a WMV to use on the web. anyone know why it was not saved? Wat can I do to make it save or how can I findout why it didn't save.     - Transition Maker 2 Patrick has spend many months developing a newer, better version 2 of Transition Maker 2 (not that there was anything found wrong with version 1)... it's now available for download... a free upgrade for those who have version 1.... and a 7 day free trial version for those who haven't tried it. Use the link on the main page of my website to get to the TM2 download page. The default installation will be to a different folder than version 1, and you can run both versions on your computer. Your TM2 project files are fully compatible with both versions.     - Audio file length When I add and MP3 file to the audio track of my edited video even though the mp3 is 3min20secs long it shows in the timeline as over 7mins long.     - Editing Video and Audio Is there anyway to add a second video line in the timeline when editting - so you can transition your video from the main piece with audio - to just some video of other things over the audio from the main clip - in other words - is there a way to separate the audio and the video.     - removing and replacing scenes ,, keeping original sound track Good Day Need some urgent help please. I am busy editing a video (shot on 2 different dv cameras). I have started with the main camera (45 minutes) , and I have also put the second camera's footage on the time-line. I have dragged the video on to the music line ,, in order to be able to cut out scenes from first camera and replace with scenes from another camera ,, thereby keeping the original sound. I am having major problems in trying to replace exactly the same amount . For example I have removed a scene of 3:14 (3 seconds, 14) . On the other footage the closest I can get is 3:12. I have tried for hours. No matter what it is always .2 of a second out . In order to have the sound synchronized ,, I have to take out and replace exactly the same amount of video .. On the one the scene starts at 5:33.12 and end at 5:36:26 yet on the other it ends on 5:36:24 etc etc Awaiting your expert comments please ...     - Audio from one clip with video from another! Is there any way to combine the audio from one video clip with the video from another? I want to overlay the audio from one clip with a title clip. BUT, the key is I don't want it in the "Audio/Music" line because I want to keep the music going. Know what I mean? I am trying to preview clips that I have imported into Movie Maker. They
worked fine yesterday and today they won't. When I click on the beginning
slide to preview, the slider at the bottom of the preview window zips across
in about one second. If you can help me, please do. I am trying to help some
of my students create a movie in Movie Maker.

What type of clip is it?... if MPEG-2, it'll act quirky like that...which is
why converting to AVI is best before using it.
