    - Plextor ConvertX PX-M402U: Any Good? I am attempting to capture 8mm analog video to my PC which is a Dell Inspiron 2650 with a Pentium 4 @ 1.69GH, 256MB RAM and a 20GB drive. You will say this is why I have had terrible luck with software-based capture devices such as the Dazzle DVC-90 and others. I obviously need a hardware-based device. Has anyone had any experience with the Plextor ConvertX? I am considering trying one, also because it is on Nero's list of tested devices and I use Nero 6. Reviews also seem to be consistently excellent. Thanks very much for your help. I have just about given up on Dazzle(yeah, right), Videoh(s--t) and others. Frank P.S.     - Nero Suddenly Won't Accept .AVI Files I have a Fuji V10 Digital Camera and have been using it to create .AVI clips. NeroVision 3 accepted these clips and I burned a successful DVD. Recently I added more clips to the same xD card, and then copied these to a folder containing the original .AVI clips. I then selected the new .AVI clips to form a new Nero DVD project. I was shocked to find that Nero would not accept them. In fact, every time I try to add them, it thinks the first is an .AVI file, but it thinks all the others are sound files! I have recopied the clips to my hard drive to no avail. Also, when this happens, Nero stops responding. The xD card was used to the point of "card full." The only thing I can think of is that somehow the files got corrupted. However, they play back perfectly on the camera, and the files on the HD play perfectly on Win Media Player and other media players. Does anyone know what may have happened? Thanks in advance.     - Confirming Collections Plan Since editing is art, I'm never quite done with a movie, but I don't trust my machine to be ready to start editing the movie I last worked on 6 months ago (i.e. maybe the machine gets reformatted, or whatever). So I want to confirm that an improvised collections export process, for which a formal versino seems to have been left out of this version, will work. When I burn the video DVD, I put a data folder with the raw footage, stills, and audio on the DVD as well. Even with that, if I wanted it bad enough, I could re-create the movie, but I didn't want to loose all of the work I've done with the collections. So if I also save the MEDIATAB?.DAT file on the DVD, woud I be able to 'reconstitute' the project, complete with collections, on my reformatted machine? I realize that the "old" collections that I would copy into the C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Movie Maker\ folder would wipe out my current one if I didn't back it up outside of this location first. But accepting that I would be in a "collections database swap mode", would this work? Is there anything in the DAT file that WMM2 would see as "foreign" and "reject the transplant"? BTW, I've read and think I understand most of what I found here: http://www.papajohn.org/MM2-Managing-Collections.html, but that application is slightly different, and I'm not serious enough about this to install MM1 just for managing collections.     - Splitting Audio and Video I need to split the audio and video so I can delete the audio portion and add my own narration. I know that I can mute the audio, but this actually ends up in a larger file because the audio is still coded for, it's just muted.     - No sound during DVD Preview I have some experience with WMM and I have successfully created a movie with audio and video. Looks and sounds great after I saved it as a DV-AVI format when played in RealPlayer. I use Sony's Click to DVD software program and when I do a preview of the burn there is no audio.     - unable to save finished project when saving my finished project all goes fine until the saving window... the saving process would start but the counter for the estimated time starts.. instead of becoming lesser the time gets longer and long with no completion of saving. my file size is only 70 mb and i have 60 gb of free space so its not the file size. what could be wrong??     - Continued freesing of program I used the wmm lots of times without problem but now it's encountered a big one that makes it impossible to work with the program. There seems to be a file (one that's no longer on my computer) stuck in the program. It's in the program every time I open it with a big red X trough it. (probably meaning that it's no longer on my computer) -When I (right or left) click the file with the red X the program freeses. -When I try to open collections the program freeses. -When I click the link: "Open Video File" the program freeses.     - Unspecified error plaquing everyone? Hey there. I'm having this same "Unspecified error" in WMM that TONS of others seem to have but no one seems to be able to fix. WMM version 1 worked fine for a long time for me using all kinds of file types( including jpg which a ton of you for some reason think don't work)...Anyway one day it just decided to stop working by giving me the unspecified error whenever importing things or adding things to the storyboard. So, I upgraded to SP2 to get WMM ver. 2...... I was in high hopes this would fix my problem, but alas it has not.     - Problem imorting I have a uncompressed avi which is a tutorial of an application running on pocket pc. When viewed in mediaplayer the pocket pc is normal size with approx 1/3 image and 2 X 1/3 black areas side by side. When I import into movie maker the video looks okay on the time line but is squashed in the preview screen. ie 2 black areas top and bottom. The outputted file is the same. How can I overcome this.     - Narration 'cut' short Hello All, Recently I have been having a problem with the narrations on my MM being cut short. As an example, I can record the narration and see the recording time of 29 seconds. However when I stop the recording and it adds the audio to the timeline it may only be 12 seconds (time is different). I can not figure out what is causing the issue. Any suggestions are welcome. I have tried recording different lengths (10 second intervals) and it will cut each one down, but not a consistent amount. I really do not want to do an uninstall/reinstall, but not sure what else to try. I have just under 8GB free on the hard drive so that should not be an issue. It worked fine the last 4-5 months and just starting acting up in the last week. I have not installed/uninstalled anything else for quite some time. Again, any help is appreciated!     - Photo Story 2 Can create a Video CD from photo story, however, it will not play in CD to launch Windows Media Player, or work in DVD that is VCD enabled.     - A though one: Deleted original source clip and WMM won't let me fi I posted this on another site and decided to give it a shot here... =================================== Hello, I think this is a tricky one. I have tried everything that I could think of. Here is the stoty: Added a 58:00 avi clip to my timeline... did a lot of chopping out of it ... so it turned into a 20 minutes, 30 little clips ... the exited WMM . my wife logged in and thought: "G, what is this 13 gb movie file doing in the desktop?" BAM source deleted. I tried 4 different "UNdelete" programs in windows but none could even find the file to bring it back... That 13gb file was created of 2 other smaller files. So I was able to recreate this 13gb file.... as far as I can tell (properties and all) it is exactly the same 13gb file I had before my wife deleted... but now on the time line when I try to Locate the Source (on the clips that have the little red X) WMM tells me the file isn't close to the original one.... Please Please think hard.. how can I recuperate this? I could just re-edit the new 13gb file, but it took me 3 hours originally... (many many cuts) Any ideas?????     - save to computer or CD not working I'm new to making movies. I did a 12.5 min project of jpegs, bmp, and wav files. When I saved the project to CD it played the entire audio and froze on about the 10th frame from the end. When I tried to save to the computer, it played the frames with no audio.     - freeze - crashing when transcoding / saving movie file hello i got a pretty big projectfile, about 50 minutes of clips, titles, music. so if i click on save as movie file > dv-avi ...etc... the movie maker begins the transcoding into avi, but after a while maybe 40 minutes, he just stops and freezes the whole screen - i have to reset my computer. what could that possibly be? i had a problem with the movie maker a few weeks ago - it closed when i opened a certain project file. i renamed some codecfiles and switched off compatibility with some others and that fixed the problem. could the problem mentioned above be related to codecs, too? just an idea... thank you daniel Tag: Photos Tag: 49842

    - Importing "VOB" Files That Were Decryted Hi all, I burnt some tv onto a dvr+ on my dvd recorder. The files are/were in "VOB" format. I used DVD Decrypter to transfer to files from the dvd to my hard drive. I then changed the extension from "VOB" to "MPG". The new file plays perfectly in "Windows Media Player" version 10. But, when I try to "Import into Collections" the new file, the following prompt comes up: "The file C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\1.MPEG cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again." Any thoughts?     - File Size Issue Hi, we just found out about Windows Media Encoder and have created some screen capture videos with it. The file size of the videos created with WME are quite small which we love, and the dimensions of the video are enormous (1280X1024). Unfortunately, after importing a video created in WME into Windows Movie Maker to make a few small changes (adding a title and fade-in), the size of the file that WMM exports becomes enormous, and the quality degrades noticably. Here is our information: Video file exported from WME Type: Windows Media Audio/Video File Size: 7.96MB Width: 1280 Height: 1024 Audio Bit Rate: 295kbps Channels: 1 (mono) Video Data Rate: 250kbps The same file modified by WMM and exported Type: Windows Media Audio/Video File Size: 38.9MB Width: 720 Height: 480 Audio Bit Rate: 907kbps Channels: 2 (stereo) Video Data Rate: 768kbps The first file actually is larger on the screen (note the width and height) than the second file. Also, the audio quality on both files sounds the same to me. None of the save options in WMM have any width and height sizes that even come close to the orginal file. This really frustrates me because the file is smaller, and of better quality after coming out of WME, but we need to use WMM in order to make the video look professional.     - Program Crashes when credits are added I went to go add credits to the end of my fully edited (and ofcourse, UNSAVED) movie, and after filling it all out I press the "done , add credits" button, and the Program just SHUTS DOWN.     - Big difference between DV-AVI and High Quality Video(NTSC)? I am importing my home videos from my camcorder's mini-dv tapes using windows movie maker 2. Is there a big difference between the DV-AVI and High Quality Video(NTSC) formats? I read an article that said there is not much noticible quality difference, and the High Quality Video(NTSC) format is one-eighth the size.     - more than one photo at a time I'm trying to figure out how I can make a photo slideshow movie, but sometimes show more than one picture at a time (ie: two photos might crawl from opposite sides of the screen, one on top, the other on the bottom).     - Burning problems I have Windows Movie Maker. I put together a movie of still digital photos, small video clips and a few slides in the middle with music to go with it. I saved the movie to my computer as a .wmv file and tried to burn it to a disk using AheadNero 5.     - Visual Acuity is lost what can I do? I used the movie maker and really loved it up until I saw the finished product. It had become blurry and fuzzy and lost it's nice CLEAR quality that my digital Cannon camera had taken. I wanted to decrease the size, but not make it look awful. I played around with changing the ways to "SAVE" the finished product and even with the highest quality for small there was no change. What am I doing wrong? Or is this just the best it can do? I was trying to make a video of digital still photos with transitions and
music. After spending about 4 hours getting everything just the way I wanted,
when I went to save it to a DVD, I got a message stating that it could not be
saved for possible reasons, The original source file could not be found, not
enough room on the disk, or not enough room on my hard drive. It was a blank
DVD, I have ver 53GB available on my hard drive, and all the photos and music
I took out of My Documents. Any ideas? Thanks
