    - Effects In Saved WMM Project I saved the movie that I created in avi. format, but when I try to record it to my camcorder..Sony DCRTRV460 I loose all the effects that I've added, such as page curls, transitions,etc. All I get is the audio/video.     - Dedicated hard drive for my video files I am starting to enjoy using my miniDv camcorder and realize I am running tight on disk space. I have a laptop with 40 Gig HD. I also have a Firewire PC Card with 2 ports - one to connect my camcorder. As I am about to buy a second HD, an extermal model, for my camcorder files - would it be a good idea to get a Firewire HD to connect to the 2nd port on my card ?     - I too see MM2 close when trying to add transitions I captured some home movies last evening, using Win MM2 to do so. When I set up my timeline, all of the clips appear and drag just fine. As soon as a drag a transition down in between the clips, the program closes immediately. Now, I changed my hardware acceleration to 3 as PapaJohn suggested to another poster, but I'm not understanding codec part. Like I said, I used MM2 to capture the video from a VCR, using a Dazzle DVC80. I didn't chose any specific codec that I'm aware of. Any thoughts? Thanks. Tag: Organizing Collections Tag: 15726

    - Darker when saved Hi. When i have finished my movie and saved it to my computer (even in the best quality), the finished movie gets darker than what i get in the preview in moviemaker. I know i can add brightness several times as an effect, but can anyone tell me why it gets darker in the firs place, and if there is anything i can do to prevent it?     - newb needs help with slide show I'm trying to create a simple slideshow from scanned photos using MM2. I've scanned the photos (all are either 5x7s or 7x5) at 300 dpi, saved as jpg. Most have a resolution of 1812x1196. I've experimented by saving the movie in several different formats such as DV-AVI, "Best quaity for playback on my computer...", etc. Yet regardless of the movie format, the images still come out significantly blurry. To illustrate, in IrfanView Full screen mode, I can clearly make out the smallest text on a street sign. But in WMP9 full screen, I can't even make out the larger letters on that same sign in the movie. I know others have asked this question before but I've yet to see an answer posted here*. How can I get the same clarity of the original jpg in a full screen movie? Do I need to crop my image to a certain H/W ratio? I've tried resampling to varios resolutions with Irfanview but that only made the pictures more blurry. The video will be projected via an InFocus projector from a Powerbook (Mac). Can someone help me get the best possible quality of these images from MM2? * I've seen several references to PapaJohn's pages, but the links all appear to be dead at this time.     - MM2 is slow after dropping transition When I drag and drop a transition onto the storyboard, I need to wait about 30 seconds to do next thing. My project includes 200 still pictures. It takes 37 minutes to play. My system includes Celeron 2.6 Ghz CPU, 768 MB RAM and 80GB hard drive. The task manager shows 100% CPU and about 400MB RAM usage. Nothing is running in background. When the number of pictures is small, I don't have this problem. What does the MM2 is doing after I drop a transition? It is very time consuming to make a picture show.     - Exporting from Moviemaker Problems I have been having problems exporting a 54 minute, 11Gb project out of Moviemaker, first to DV tape, and cannot get a smoothly running movie. The sound is perfect in my computer, but skips in places on the tape, not always in the same places on different copies. I've tried emptying everything unnecessary out of memory, de-fragging, etc, but nothing helps. Then, I've tried to save the project to my hard drive, or burn it to CD. No luck. After 6 or 8 hours I get non-specific messages saying that either the memory is full, or the file is missing something, or something else is wrong. Nothing specific. I have a Sony computer with Click to DVD on it, but that won't accept the Moviemaker format. All the professionals who I've asked laugh when I say I have Windows Moviemaker, and can offer no help. Any suggestions? Ideally, I'd like to at least get a perfect DV tape, or a DVD, without needing more hardware or software. Tag: Organizing Collections Tag: 15709

    - DV device not recognized Sony GV-D1000 deck connected to movie maker 2. When I do this, I can't capture via the "vcr conrols" in movie maker2 (they don't appear). I have to manually hit the play on the sony deck and select capture from within movie maker 2. Is there a driver I need to control the sony deck in movie maker 2?     - Help a newb with cropping I want to make it so that the video only shows or plays a certain section of the screen. I think it is called cropping. For example, I taped a baseball game and didn't want anyone to see the pitcher or outfield...can I reajust it so only homeplate and the batter are shown? In MS word you can do it with images.     - VCDs with Roxio DVDBuilder I have just installed Easy Media Creator 7.0. I usually go with Nero, but it's a little fussy with some MPEG formats, so I'm trying EMC. Ideally I'd just like to make a VCD where a number of MPG files become VCD chapters. In DVD Builder, though this does not appear to be possible. It seems that I am forced to use the initial menu where, in order to see my MPG segments I have to click the corresponding number (1, 2, 3, ...) on the remote, while in Nero I could much more simply drag and drop all files and they would play sequentially automatically (i.e., no menu). Here the Play button does not do anything, and after playing one it goes back to the main menu, where I have to select a new file/number. In order to add MPG files to the CD, I have to do "Add new title", if I add one file per "Title" I have random access to all through the main menu, but I find that quite inconvenient, I'd just like to see them all in a row, and skip to what I want with chapters. Also, if I add more than one MPG file in the same "Title" they are just combined together as one big file, but again not separated by chapters. The "mark chapter" dialog is also quite useless. If I combine many files under one title, and push the playback scrollbar all the way to the end, I don't even see the whole thing (not that it would be a convenient way anyway). So my question is, how can I just get rid of the useless initial Menu and just create a standard VCD where different MPG files correspond to different chapters ?     - Problems and Questions with MM2 I am using MM 2.0.3312.0 and I am having troubles. 1. The Storyboard index seams messed up. For example, I click on one storyboard item, that item shows properly in the previewer. I click on the next item, the header and timing information changes, but the video does not show the correct one. Then every item I select after that is off (the video shown is one behind). Is that due to the transitions? 2. Is there any way to control the size of the saved movie? I have a video clip that is 480x360. I want the movie saved to the same size? Is that possible? It appears to save 640x480 or 320x240. Is the resulting movie based on the codec selected? 3. Anyone know the best way to work with a movie? I.E. I have an AVI video. I have the Audio track which is separate. I want to merge the two then add a music track. My concerns are: a. When I save the AVI (without the audio) using another tool which lossless codec should I use so when I combine the AVI with the Audio track the Video quality is not compromised. b. Then I have to import that Video into MM2 so I can add a music track and save it. As you can see, I am dealing with saving the original video (w/o audio), saving the Video with its Audio, then saving the entire thing with a music track. Which codec is recommended so I do not progressively loose video quality? Unless I am missing something in MM2 and I can work with a video (w/o an audio track), add the audio track to the storyboard, then add a music track to the storyboard?     - Digirtalized Audio Hi, I'm working in a project in Movie Maker 2 and I'm having a problem with the audio quality of the final movie. I have a digital camcorder (Canon Elura 50) and I'm tranfering video to my PC (P4/2.4Ghz - 512 RAM - 2x80GB) using firewire. I'm using MM2 to capture the videos in DV-AVI files and the quality is perfect. But in the next step, when I use the clips in the storyboard something happens, because when I play the clips in the storyboard the audio sounds a little digitalized. When I import a song into my collections, the song is distorted (sounds like an extra beat when the song is played) Video files - sound plays but no visual, some video files dont play at all, or are distorted.     - a-to-d converter I have a Cannon ZR-65 DV camcorder that can be used to convert anolog av to digital, but windows MM2 give a "no tape erreo" when i try to capture the av directly.     - Transitions with Movie Maker 2 We are trying to complete a movie using movie maker 2. We have all of the clips in our timeline, have created a lead-in and a closing set of credits, and have transitions between the various scene changes, except two of them. When we try to drag a transition onto the timeline at two locations, we get a circle with a line through it when we attempt to drag the transition to these two locations only. All others worked fine. Hi Mike,

The Managing > Collections page of my site is the place that I put such
info.... and in my books.

Importing a video clip always results in a new collection being created by
MM2... you have to manually rearrange/organize the clips once they are in.

Once in, and for any other clips in collections, you can drag and drop, or
copy/paste from one collection to another. It's part of the basics of using
MM2, covered in my books rather than the website.
