    - saving to mini dv I have a movie that I am trying to save to my panasonic mini dv. I have the ieee1394 firewire. When I try to save to the camcorder, I dont get an error message, but it wont let me save it. I have read all the trouble shooting stuff and I think I have that covered. I have modified the size of the file when I save to CD or desktop and it will let me. I think the file is too large when I create my movie. I have 9 songs and approx 1200 images. The file shows only 254 meg before I save my movie. I cant see where I can change the bit rate from the pc to the camcorder. I can save the file just fine and view it in media player after changing the bit rate when going to the CD. Am I just out of luck because the file is too big when recording to the camcorder?     - Speed up clip TIP and questions I wanted to speed up a clip in WMM2 more than the default 2X; so I doubled the speed, saved the clip as an AVI then imported it back into Collections, sped it up again (2X), saved it to an AVI, re-imported it again and then finally applied a 2X Video Effect to give me a very speedy clip (without apparent loss of frames or introducing very choppy video). The question I have, is there any loss in AVI quality the more I apply this technique to a set of clips? Also, I have been reading on PapaJohn's website that WMM uses AVI-I versus AVI-II, what do DV camcorders typically save to tape, AVI-I or AVI-II? Is there any consumer way of editing AVI-II or is that left to the professional equipment? Any advantage to using AVI-II or is it lossy, the more you import and save back to AVI-II (if you can)?     - Using Overlays I was just reading about using overlays in MM and it sounds like an interesting idea. However, when I try to drag my png to the overlay part of the timeline, it stops dead in the video section and won't go where I want it.     - Ever see a stray frame/image copied into a transition?? I am editing an hour-long video with about 100 clips. I think I am encountering an error in WMM, but not sure. When I split a long clip into two clips, and then delete one of the clips, sometimes a single image/frame from the deleted clip appears in the "transition" for the next clip. It is only a single frame/image, but it ruins the video because it is out-of-context. My video appears choppy, with a single image spliced between two clips. My question is "where is this single image stored?" It seems to be stored in the "transition" between clips. As I scroll through the video frame by frame, the stray image appears "between" two clips. If I view the storyboard screen and click on the transition box, I can see the stray image/frame. I wish I could delete it. I am not using any transitions in this video.     - How to Burn Movie Maker Project File to DVD?? I have a completed Movie Maker Project File and am unable to burn or transfer to my Sony DVD Burner with Sonic MYDVD software ( which came with my Sony DVD Burner DRX-3OUL).     - Can't Capture Video I have a JVC DV camcorder that I am trying to capture video from. I have a firewire card and cable that are new and I have already captured three tapes worth of video with. Now I am running into a problem. I can connect the camcorder and it automatically open WMM and its capturing utility. I go through all of the set up and select either capture whole tape or capture manually. Preview is on. Then when I go to Start Capture WMM will control the camcorder but nothing appears in the preview, the size of file always shows as 5K i believe but the time displays as zero. When I stop the Capture it gives me an error that the device might not be connected properly or the program isn't correct.     - Beg. Questions I have many photo's that I scanned up at 300dpi and would like to put on both a CD and DVD. 1) Have read alot on here about 16:9 ratio but am confused. They are in Paperport format right now (.max) for best quality should I save in .jpg or .bmp? I have Paint Shop Pro so I can resize them. But what do I resize them to for burning to both CD and DVD. 2) "Video Impression program" came with my Canon digital camera and save's the video to .avi and slideshows save to .slw . Do I then need another program to burn the video or slide show and if so does Windows movie maker do this? If I do need another program which to you recommend that does both CD and DVD that is very affordable.     - Home Video Made into DVD for TV Viewing I have made a digital tape of our vacation using a Canon ZR300 camcorder. I am a novice to all this - first time trying this.     - Picture over Video Please help. I have about 10 minutes of captured video with an important audio track on the video. About 5 minutes in, I would like to put a picture over the video, yet allow the video to keep running so as to allow the audio track to come through. The effect I am looking for would be similar to a weather man. First the camera is focused on him, then you continue to hear him talking but on your TV you see a weather map. Is this possible?     - import overwrites all clips except last All .avi files imported into WMM are overwriting each other. Does anyone know how to import a bunch of .avi files into WMM as a group rather than what is happening to me now which is I end up with the last file imported? It makes no difference if the files come from a Sony camcorder or a Canon digital camera they all overwrite each other when imported into WMM.     - WMM Keeps crashing. Randomly decides to crash over and over again. Sometimes before uploading audio and sometimes it can also be when I attempt to upload a picture file. Never had this trouble before.     - Can someone explain to me how to perform very simple video edits in Avid or Premiere Hi, I have started a temporary contract position with a small multimedia company. Although, my main area is Windows support, I am constantly bothered by people wanting spliced and diced audio and video files. Although I am not familiar with either area, the audio editing software is fairly intuitive and I have got by. I am afraid with video tools (Avid and Premiere), I am lost. I dont want to be able to do anything fancy, but if someone asks me to split an mpeg or an avi file of 2 hours into one chunk of 40 minutes and one of 1 hour 20, I want to be able to do it immediately. What is the simplest way to do this? I know there is a movie editor in XP too, but I couldn't even figure that one out. If anyone can help, I would be very grateful.     - Capturing Video, jumps forward I have a Sony DV camcorder. I have been using a DV firewire (IEEE 1394) to transfer my videos to computers. I don't use it often though.. except now it is soccer/band season. The last time I used it successfully was in Jan 2005 and it transferred fine. Now when I use the DV cord, it records, but jumps forward and it 'broken' up. I tried using the USB cord and it does transfer w/o the jumps, but the video quality is much less. My guess was a driver, but can't confirm that. Another possibility I came across was a conflict with a Windows Service Pack 2 update. My husband handles those things. Help!     - Can't Save to CD - Source Files Missing or Have Been Modified I have my Windows Movie Maker completed on my PC. It looks and sounds great. Both still and movie clips are included. However, when I follow Movie Maker instructions "To Save A Movie to CD", I receive the following error message: "Cannot Complete Save Movie Wizard. This project contains source files that are missing or that have been modified after import. Your project cannot be saved as a movie until the source files have been located or deleted from the project." All the still photos, movie clips and sound are on my PC. However, some may be in My Pictures and not in Movie Maker. Do I need to physically put all photos, movie clips and music into Movie Maker? I can play the movie on my PC and it plays beautifully.     - Sound quality I was using WMM 2.1 since a while with no problem. Now I have a problem. I import .avi and .mp3 files and edit my movie. I listen to the preview in WMM without problem.     - How to select multiple audio clips for nudging? Using MM2.1, how can specific, but not all, parts of the audio be selected for "nudging" forward or backward? Approximately the last half of the audio in a 40-minute video is out of synch, and needs to be nudged. I know how to select audio clips one at the time; but since there are so many in the last 20 minutes, am hoping there is a faster, more efficient method of selecting a large number, but not all, of the audio clips in a project.     - JVC Everio GZ-MG50 30GB Hard Drive Camera Can anyone give me some advice regarding this camera. I have never owned a video camera and I will be getting one soon. I only need it for family videos, as I will be getting married soon, and vactions. I also have a separate digital still camera, so this is only for video. I read alot about the CCDs and mpeg quality and all sort of stuff that I dont fully understand. This camera seems like it should be pretty easy for me to store all of my film on my computer, I have a huge HD, and I wont have to purchase or carry around several tapes or dvds. I will want to be able to edit the footage together, but again this wont be anything fancy. The camera is very lightweight and compact but it doesnt have an eyepiece, or a place to attach an additional light to it. I dont know if the eyepiece is important or not, but I am concerned about low light filming. Although I am under the impression that every camera will have some issues with that. I have also heard rumors about a very long, 14 second, boot time and the possiblity of the camera getting very hot. Does anyone know if any of this is true? I am looking to spend around $1,000 for a new camera, and if this s a bad choice can anyone offer any good ideas and please tell me why. Thanks in advance, I really appreciate the help.     - PLEASE HELP ME! IT FREEZES Okay. When I open the movie maker, it freezes. On occasion I can start to edit my video, but it eventually freezes for no reason. Is there a patch anywhere?
