Slightly off topic, but a video question:

I film with a Sony DCR-HC21. I noticed in a movie I made of a
birthday party in a park that there's a great deal of background
"hiss" in the audio...a constant low roar of sound.

This is not a problem in making the movie in MM. It's sound that has
been picked up by the camera's microphone. I don't use an external
microphone; just the built-in microphone.

Any suggestions for minimizing this when taking the pictures?

if it's wind noise, you need to muffle the mic with something to minimize it

if it's picking up noises from the camcorder itself, then an external mic to
get the capture further from it...
