    - Can not save movie in WMM 2.1 Problem Description: Same old error message "WMM could not save....source file....insufficient disk space....check....try again..." Only with WMV format. Able to save using DV AVI format. OS: XP Home Edition SP2 WMM 2.1 q*.dll is 10.something Facts: Was able to make small sized clip four months back but then also WMM2 used to hang at times. Checked papajohn site, gathered info abt dll and checked but it is anyway latest version. Not techie enuf to see this codec thing by myself.     - What is Default.PLS, get rid of? Am working with Win Movie Maker and other DVD things. A "Default.PLS" file appeared in folder and it says type of file is "shoutcast", 1KB.     - Audio for Movie Maker I run XP with the Movie maker. I can't burn to a CD-R from the program. Help please. Also, I had to reinstall XP and now I receive a message saying I have no audio hardware for Movie Maker. I have upgraded to Movie Maker 2 but that didn't fix the problem.     - problems with lip sync video to music... I'm doing music video's and I'm having difficulties with getting my video clips to sync up with the word's/lyrics of subject singing... Don't misunderstand me, it's possible but it is proving to be extremly difficult. Am I missing something, perhaps some sort of code when I'm shooting the clip so I can line it up more accurately with the audio track? Usually when I do get the clip to sync up, if I drop in a transition leading to the next clip it will somehow move the previous clip (that I just spent an eternity on) out of sync again.........maybe I need to upgrade to a more adequate program?     - How to remove MM 2? I have a client whos' MM 2 seems to be damaged. (Some of his tabs for options simply don't exist.) I suggested re-installing MM 2, but the problem is that you can only get it via Updates. Of course the update reads the system and it says MM 2 is already installed so it refuses to allow him to download it again. To make it worse, I see no possible way to remove it from his system to get the update site to download it. This is the worst catch 22 I've ever seen with updates... Any suggestions?     - How buy quality IEEE 1394 card/cable? These cards and cables seem all over the board in price, I wondered how to get best value. Setup is... I'm using a WinXP(pro) PC with Windows Movie Maker, and connecting a Sony digital camcorder, abt 3 yrs old. Is there anything to watch out, and make sure I do or don't get when it comes to buying card/cable. Don't need more USB ports. So far found these... -Most in-store cards $25-50. Most cables around $25-30, some online ones are cheaper but loaded with shipping/handling. -Tiger Direct. Found via Amazon. Has a IEEE 1394 card for PCI slot, plus cable for $12.97, plus about $7 shipping. Seems like a great deal. Are there any "watch out for's" for something this inexpensive?     - Using S-video cable, get no audio When I connect camcorder to PC card using S-video cable and try to capture the video, I get no audio. But when I use an RCA-plug connection, I get audio. I wondered if anyone had ideas on how to fix the S-video connection problem. Here's setup. SYSTEM. WinXP(pro) PC with Windows Movie Maker, and connecting a Sony digital camcorder, abt 3 yrs old. The PC has an ATI Radeon 9000pro all-in-wonder multimedia card...it has a purple cable that ends into a big block that has 4 connectors...S-video, RCA-left, RCA-right, RCA-video. RCA-PLUG CAMCORDER CONNECTION. The camera can output to the three RCA plugs (wht, red, yellow), and the ATI card can accept this. When used, works fine, but would still like to use simpler s-video, and resolve its problem S-VIDEO CAMCORDER CONNECTION. The camera can output to S-Video and the ATI card can accept same. I linked with s-video cable. But no audio during capture. Don't think it's cable...it buzzes out perfectly with volt/ohm meter. Don't think its audio card because the card gets "TV-tuner" sound, plus microphone, CD, and all else. Also, (X) Line-In is checked in Windows, I think.     - WMM constantly freezing! Help! When I first started using WMM a while ago it worked perfectly, I don't remember having any problem; but after the first video I made I started having trouble with it, now it is constantly freezing on me. Sometimes if I just sit there and wait a little while it will unfreeze, but other times it won't unfreeze no matter how long I wait so I have to open the task manager and exit out that way. It won't even go 5 minutes without freezing AT LEAST once! Needless to say, it is extremely difficult and frustrating to make a video this way! I have to constantly save every few minutes in case it freezes and I have to exit out AGAIN. I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling it but it didn't help at all.     - MM records blank files Hi, I have an Avermedia AverDVD EZMaker card that I use for transferring video from analogue VCR to disk for editing and burning to DVD. Sound and video show in the capture preview, but when I start capture the file size shows as 5kb, and the timer stays at 0. When I end capture and 'Finish' an error message pops up saying that the device is not responding. The saved file is blank, no sound or video, but runs for the approprate amount of time and is greater than 5kb. This is a recent problem, it used to all work fine.     - Enable DMA transfer I am uploading video from my old 8mm camera using USB Videobus II. The picture I am getting is a bit rough and the installation manual says I should enable DMA transfer for hard drives to improve the quality. I don't know how to do this.     - wmm crashes immediately I upgraded my videocard from a Matrox g-400 to an Invidia Geforce 6600 card. Since then, I am unable to successfully launch wmm. I have a PIII 1.13gHz w/512 mb, 440watt ps, 2 150gig hds on 2 different ide controllers. I have several other videocentric programs, including Vegas 4,DVD Architect 1.0, Muvee AutoProducer 4.1, WinDV 1.2.3, Bluff Titler, Ulead Cool 3D 3.5, Title Deko, etc. The only impact is losing the ability to run WMM, all other programs play nice with my new Video card. I have the latest drivers. I was told on another forum that this is a known issue with Geforce cards, which suprises me becuse they are currently more mainstream than my former Matrox board. Is there any info on what, short of giving up on WMM (no great loss, but there are some useful affects and filters I will miss) or changing back to my older Matrox card (which is MUCH slower in 3D, and does not have T&L, and Ansiotropic filtering, etc.?)     - Importing Pictures When using the Movie Maker program, I have imported pictures from "My Pictures" file (mostly scanned pictures). When I do, the pictures in "My Pictures" files multiply 83 times within the file folder. This creates a huge issue when you have about 200 pictures in a folder and it somehow copies them all 83 times each creating thousands of duplicate pictures. When I try to delete them as a group, it multiplies again. So I have to delete them one at a time. What do I need to do to keep this from happening?     - Can't Play Clips - Preview is Dead! I am a new user to Movie Maker and am having problems with the clip playing facility. I place a clip (even Microsofts own sample) into the timeline but the controls of the preview area are completly dead. I cannot even use the drop down menu to play the clip.     - AVI to VHS tape for grade school class project How do we output an avi file onto a VHS video tape? My fourth grader told me today (last minute) he needs to bring to school a VHS video tape of his verbal book report as a 60-second "commercial". I easily snapped the one-minute video from my Nikon CoolPix camera which saved the 18 MB AVI file onto the compact flash card. But I'm stuck at this point! I don't now how to get this AVI file onto a VHS tape from my Windows XP IBM A31p laptop. I searched this newsgroup but didn't find the question already answered by anyone. I tried playing the AVI file in Media Player Classic, version 6.4 while the firewire was hooked to a borrowed Pinnacle "movie DV" digital to analog converter which itself was hooked by 3 RCA cables (red, white, yellow) into the VCR input jack - but nothing was coming into the firewire PC output. I think I have all the equipment I need but I have no idea how to 'force' the AVI file to go out the firewire output of the IBM A31p laptop. Maybe the Pinnacle Studio 9 software disk I borrowed might help? Or maybe Windows MovieMaker? Or MediaPlaye? I just don't know. Can you point me in the right direction soon? What program would play the AVI file and push it out to the firewire which is hooked to the Pinnacle MovieDV digital to analog converter so that I can then record the one-minute AVI file onto the VHS tape via the three RCA jacks on the VCR?     - Photostory 3: Am I about to go about this the wrong way?? Oh, and that ffdshow codec problem. And a P in P question! Apologies if in wrong place, I thought there was a PS3 group. What I want to do is cut together a natty little video of last night's xmas bash pics - I have a great idea in my head, but it involves rapid and accurate cuts to the music, which doesn't seem possible in PS3 like it is in MM2. But then in MM2, you can't do the nice pans and zooms round the photos that you can in PS3! Bearing in mind this is just a bit of fun, what's the speediest way to resolve my little quest? PS - while I'm here, I find the ffdshow codec very useful, and it's been fine with everything else, but it kills PS3 when importing mp3 music. Is there a way round this without uninstalling before, and re-installing after using PS3? PPS - Without learning something too big, I'd like to insert a small "side by side" video, which I can't do with simple P in P, because I need 2 timelines to cut n match. At first glance, Avid Free looked like the way to do this segment, but it ain't 'arf complicated for simple tasks! Anything else quick and free to do this segment? Thanks!     - best way to make dvd from movie maker? Hi I'm doing a project in school wth my 3 classes and they've all made a little movie but now I want to put them on dvd so they can play them at home over Xmas. What's the best way? Do I need to buy some extra software? There will be approx 100 dvds to make. (all films will be quite short - approx 5 mins) so software that helps you do the job quickly and easily would be the best for us. Thanks for any help!     - Unable to record movies and sound problems I get a very odd behaviour of MM: It's impossible to record movies on disk even with verys small clips. The error message tell to check disk space then the file to write is 60Kb! An other problem is the defect of sound when I try to make movies longer. The sound is correct for the clips but it does not play on the final movie. I suspect a problem with codecs because thes pb appears after loading codec to play divix in WMediaPlayer.     - audio begins before video When I want to play my edited film the audio/sound begins before the actual moving pictures. What am I doing wrong? I imported videoclips from my videocamera and pictures from the digital camera. The saved file begins with some pictures and after a couple of pictures the video begins.     - working btwn 2 computers I am trying to do an xmas presentation for work, and I only have a couple of days to do this. I had done a lot of work today and then ftp'd the files to a site where I can access my files at home. I cannot open the file now, it can not locate any of the files I had added. Before I waste an entire weekend on a file I'll be unable to open at work, i need to find out if this will work. If I work on my files at home and then send the movie maker format file back to my pc at work, and duplicate the file structure in the same manner that I am working on in my home pc, will I be able to open it without any problems? I have made 1 home movie and BOY did it stink. So I decided to use a new
project where we feature highlights of our town. The problem is, I don't want
to mess up again. Anybody have a website where I can get tips for making a
good home movie? Keep it on subject of a a tight budget. I need tips for
planning, storyboarding, shooting, and editing. Any help would be great! :)
