Can someone please recommend a program that is as easy to use as WMM, but
doesn't have ALL the problems this program does? My WMM 2.1 shuts down,
freezes, the whole nine yards! It's horrible, and I need to put together a
DVD for a sport highlight........

I can't take all the problems this program has any more !

Google Pinnacle video software. I think they have three versions, topping out
at around a $100. Very similar to WMM, MUCH more powerful.

1. Increase your RAM chips to 1024
2. Restart everyday

3. Run all MS Windows Updates
4. DL and install Startup Cop or something similar and stop all those
other programs running in the background.

5. Click | Start | Run | %temp% | and delete the temp files
6. After every 10 edits test by closing / saving / your WMM program then
reopen.

7. Bestbuy had Pinnacle 10 for $29 Thanksgiving week. It is back up to
$100

Are these WMM movies about Katrina too sad? Should I delete them?

<<My system says I have 3.19 GHz, 480 MB RAM>>

You probably have 512 RAM with 32 M used by onboard video.

Everyone uses at least 1024 RAM. CompUSA and Bestbuy and other national
chains run it on sale after rebate every month and it only takes 1 minute to
stick a RAM chip inside of your PC.

What is your make and model PC ?

everyone does NOT run 1024 ram, and suggesting that simply updating your ram
will magically fix all of WMM's stability problems is absurd !!
Movie maker is a very unstable program. most of the problems with crashes
and hangs are caused by codec and compatibility issues with file types, NOT
MEMORY !!!

most who use WMM successfully have learned to adapt their projects around
WMM's weaknesses. (i.e. convert music to .wav rather than .mp3, convert
photos to .bmp rather than .jpg, convert video to .wmv rather that .mpg
etc...)

Pinnacle is OK but still limited. If you really want to get serious, try
Sony Vegas Movie Studio. It is amazing. the learning curve is quite a bit
higher, but once you get it, "sky's the limit". Since Sony just released
Version 7, you an pick up Version 6 for around $100

I thought Pinnacle was awful, crashes and hangs.
Would have returned it for refund except it was bundled with a Firewire card
and cable which I do need.
For basic DVD creation I use Ulead DVD Movie Factory and for more advanced
use Adobe Premiere Elements although I'm still learning with that.

Sometimes I burn the MP4 to a audio disk then rip back to mp3 or wma.

Or at other times the Digital Media Converter works fine.

Also I am buying a new AGP VIdeo Card because everyone has a Video Card with
128m of RAM or more.

The video card is needed for Pinnacle v.10 to make movies about Katrina in
New Orleans.

i have a 3ghz processor on my computer and 512mb RAM. my computer handles
video quite nicely in movie maker because it is Penium 4 with hyper-threading
technology. if you are really serious you should upgrade to a Pentium D or
Core 2 Duo processor for dual core support which will allow you to do more
than one task or more power for one task. also have a graphics card
deffinately helps. i aslo increased the paging file on my computer to a
massive 6gb. it really helps sometimes.

hope this helps
