Does anyone know how to make those special effects where they have 4 small screen of same/different video playing at the same time?

Hi there,

There are some botch up tricks that some have used but Movie Maker is not
designed for that sort of thing. I will have to see if I still have a copy
of the example I posted on my web site where I used four screens and messed
around with them. It was done using MovieDV 6 from AIST...quite a good
program...If you only use a video track once, you can get eleven videos to
display at once all doing their own thing, and its no more effort than
dragging a film clip to the timeline...dead easy.

If you give me a couple of hours or so I will put it up on my website...its
name is 2004_01...but give me at least 2 hrs to sort it and upload it

Hi Again,

I have just found the file and have started uploading to my site...its
going a bit slow tonight, the net must be a bit busy somewhere between me
and my server.

Have a look though, the part you are interested in is at the beginning,
when it reverts to one screen the interesting stuff is over.

Its at a very low bit rate, so the quality is not as good as it might
be...but you will get the idea I am sure.

Hi again, (last time)

You may also want to check out the 2004-03 video...shows some of the neat
transitions that are available as well. You can make your own transitions
within the program..I've had a look but not had the time to learn how to
use it yet.

And check the bottom of the Editing > Video > Transitions page of my
website. The links to the 320x240 and 640x480 size video samples will show
you 5 videos running in parallel.... all by using a custom transition in
MM2.

Hello,

I'm sorry, it was my intention not to mention you by name when I was
referring to the silly practice of using a transition to try and emulate a
multi-track video, but as you did it yourself so be it.....Movie Maker with
or without botch-up transitions that require multiple attempts at getting
something close to a multi screen video is just not on. For gods sake
man...your examples, there not even DV-AVI !!! and perhaps you missed my
remark that MovieDV with no special botched up transition displays no less
than 11 simultaneous videos. Out of which any or all can be going through
their own transitions which you are able to adjust REAL TIME. What do you
do with your transition if you want all of the videos displayed for an
hour....how many ways must you manipulate it before you can add all of
them.

So my remarks remain...Movie Maker is not suitable for creating
Simultaneous Multi-Videos

Mr. Kelly I went to www.papajohn.org and downloaded the PapaJohn's 320x240
video sample (Collage-320x240.wmv). It in fact shows five videos playing
simultaneously at once. A silly practice? Perhaps that is your opinion.
The fact that PapaJohn's examples on his site were not even DV-AVI is not
relevant, it was an example, possibly an example to learn by or spark some
imagination. Would I want to watch that format for an hour as you suggest?
No. It was a 1 minute and 11 second example shot in Charleston, South
Carolina. Your belief that Movie Maker is not suitable for creating
Simultaneous Multi-Videos is your opinion. And I am beginning to form an
opinion on your posts. Calling PapaJohn's example "botch up tricks" in the
thread serves no useful purpose. This is
microsoft.public.windowsxp.moviemaker and PapaJohn claims he created the
video by using a custom transition in MM2. I believe his claim. PapaJohn's
site has been helpful to me. This is a hobby for me, and perhaps for most
of the other readers here also. I am enjoying this hobby and my friends and
family are enjoying my amateur results. I don't think for a minute that MM2
is a top of the line editor to compete with professional software but it
sure is fun for me. I am becoming bored with many of your post's.

Rich,

On my sample, I saved each pass as a DV-AVI file to preserve the quality
thru the several rendering steps. It was only the final one that I rendered
to WMV at an appropriate setting for online viewing.

Hello there,

Rich, I am so sorry. You have completely missed the whole point. I
invite you to create a video that apart from content is the same as the
botch up from Papajohns web site. Perhaps you should contemplate why the
demo video is so short...have you even considered the mechanics of multiple
pass video editing where each pass degrades the previous pass even more?
Have you considered how much video, time wise, has to be wasted in order to
get the bit you want? (That's where you have to do something about a
transition you are passing off as a multiple video by the way)

You say you are forming an opinion of me, this I find to be of no
problem at all, after all you have given an opinion on something you have
apparently not done your self!!! So I am not in the least concerned about
the value of your opinion. You do not seem to have a clue on how much work
is needed in the "BOTCH-UP" that you now think stimulates a discussion. A
Discussion on what??? MOVIE MAKER 2 DOES NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO DISPLAY FOR
THE PURPOSES OF EDITING MORE THAN ONE VIDEO TRACK.....In what way would you
like to discuss that fact?

I would be pleased to see a finished video clip of yours done using the
papajohn method, or as I call it a botch up and then from you an truly
honest assessment of whether it was at all worth the effort or whether it is
definitely a case of the right tool for the job, and as I have said before
Movie Maker is NOT suitable for that kind of job. Any attempt at making it
so is called a BOTCH-UP

And, if you are going to quote me, please at least try to quote in
context, otherwise I might wonder as others no doubt will, exactly what your
motivation is.

And finally, have you seen the sample I made showing multiple video
tracks...it was all done in just one operation (The compiling part) The
construction was done whilst watching a real time representation of my
manipulation of each video.

Have a nice day

Ho Ho !

I will have to dig out that message from a Microsoft employee that states
there is no such thing as smart rendering and therefore every pass is a
render with all that it implies.....

A nice try...its still a BOTCH-UP no matter which way you try to wrap it

Hello again,

Someone else has just pointed out to me something you say.

You appear to be under the impression that Papajohn is being called a
Liar by me in that you believe that I have said he never created the sample
video. I'm sorry, I never said that, or implied it. All I said was that its
a BOTCH-UP.

In addition, where it was shot is not relevant, or do you think it is??

As you have brought PAPAJOHN'S website into this, if you remove from
PAPAJOHN'S web site everything that someone else has said (and that includes
a lot of stuff where he has not given the posters name...by the way, some
call that sort of thing plagiarism...others more sensibly call it straight
THEFT) you end up with a few generalisations and little else. But you do
have left a couple of video examples...we have already mentioned Multi
video's in a Movie Maker project all displaying at the same time, we also
have...........

REVERSE VIDEO...he is actually suggesting that you take your piece of
video and with some other program (Because movie maker can not do this)
capture every single frame and using yet another program splice them
together in the reverse order WHAT !!! OK, so over in the states you have 30
frames a second and lets suppose you have a 10 second clip you want to
reverse...30 x 10 is ?????? 300 frames !!! but what about the audio. OK, now
lets suppose you want to vary the rate of reversed video.....no...forget it,
lets not go there.

We could always move on to the transparency one...he had me going on
that one until I realised that it was simply a dead horse, instead I first
acquired free software that did rather an excellent overall job and followed
that up by buying the Big Brother of the free stuff...at US $69 it is
totally fantastic (Its what I used to make the multi video film clip)

You will please TAKE NOTE, that I have not called him a liar. Instead I
would offer the view that all of this stuff looks good (maybe) but it is not
practical. So lets remove that from the site, what's left? You only have to
look at some of his messages of today where he talks about tuning up memory
or defrag the hard drive..I've made comments elsewhere on those suggestions.

Remember, by your own words to me, you invited comment. Do you yet wish
you had not.

Why do you think PAPAJOHN does not comment publicly. I can tell you that
he used to, quite a lot. He once implied that he was right because he posted
to no less than 52 newsgroups and an unspecified number of web based
forums...WRONG !! He once made the remark that he liked web sites that
restored themselves to service (That was just after he made an extremely
silly remark in two parts...he was safe because he was behind a router
:):):) and then implied that the program TRACERT was obviously not very good
:):):) When he was told that it was the industry De-Facto Standard he went
silent. Then he made a public statement that no one person runs this
newsgroup (I agree) but then he sent me an email stating that only one of us
could run it!!!!! I did not know what to make of that, but I did start
checking up on how many newsgroups he does post too, it took a very long
time and the answer was no where near 52! (I have every message he ever
posted using the name PAPAJOHN going back three years from when he made the
claim, there are a lot of them, believe me, but there are not many
newsgroups) He has never claimed he posted using any other name, even though
I have laid these facts before him many times.

Best Wishes.....John Kelly (Who still says its a BOTCH-UP)

Mr. Kelly if "Someone else has just pointed out to me something you say"
let them make their statement in public to me. I'm not interested in
hearsay.

Mr. Kelly, since you missed several of my points I will only quote one and
ignore the remainder of your reply "Mr. Kelly I went to www.papajohn.org
and downloaded the PapaJohn's 320x240 video sample (Collage-320x240.wmv).
It in fact shows five videos playing simultaneously at once"

Hello,

Sorry, I did not realise I was talking with a complete idiot...have fun
trying out papajohns technique called a botch up...when you have made one,
I will enjoy reading your comment on how GREAT it was for you...

I don't mind talking to anyone, some of my friends do though...that's why
they told me rather than you...they are a little picky you see, I'm not.

There is a medical term for people with that illness where you keep
repeating things...I actually met a poor sole with the affliction...sorry
to see you have it also, Bye Bye.
