    - Movie Maker - Error Message PROBLEM: I keep getting the following error message when attempting to use Movie Maker 2.1 to catpure VHS to DVD - " THE VIDEO DEVICE CANNOT BE USED A THIS TIME BECAUSE THERE HAS BEEN AN ERROR WHEN STARTING THE DEVICE:. OBJECTIVE: To record my old VHS tapes, full length, to DVD for safekeeping and also to create MPEG-2 movie clips from these VHS tapes for import/editing with mixed photo/video productions. BACKGROUND: I have a Dell XPS Media Center packaged PC. I have Media Center Edition (MCE) 2004 with the ATI e-Home Wonder PCI TV Tuner card installed. I am wired from ny VCR's (JVC HR-3912U) S-Video OUT to the S-Video IN on the tuner card and the L/R Audio OUT is wired to the tuner card with single stero jack. The VCR is wired to my cable box using the appropriate S-Video & L/R Audio wiires to receive TV programs (RF is disconnected). After starting MCE MyTV, I receive pciture/audio just fine so I assume nothing is wrong with the tuner card. I recently downloaded Service Pack 2 which inlcuded the Movie Maker 2.1 PRODEDURES I FOLLOWED LEADING UP TO ERROR: 1. I started Movie Maker 2.1 ok 2. I selected the Capture from Video Device wizard 3. Under [Available devices:] I selcted [ATI e-home Wonder Capture ICON] 4. Under [Audio input source:] I selected [Anolog Mix] 5. Under (Video input source:] I selected [S-Video] 6. I enterred the file name to capture video. 7. After hitting NEXT the above error message appears.     - Restore deleted wmv I need to restore a deleted wmv file for my movie to work because I didnt realise that the clips wouldnt work without the media player file. So, Im in a bit of a pickle here. Anyone no if this is possible? I emptied the recycle bin so Im afraid that the computer has used the file already but I ave not yet defragged.     - Saved Video - Negative Color ?? I have a Bt848 based video capture card. Old and unsupported now days. But i works none the less with DScaler and seems to work ok with Widows Movie Maker. I've been able to capture video, the video in the preview and playback window appear ok, proper color etc - inside the Movie Maker program. But when I save the captured AVI / Movie or look at the AVI directly with WM9 Player the video is a negative ( or appears to be ) of the original. Suggestions ?     - MM2 Doesn't See the Disc I've successfully created a movie in MM2 (first one ever) and want to burn it to a recordable CD. The issue I'm having is that when I click 'Recordable CD', I get a message that there is no disc in the recordable CD drive. I've placed a brand new CD-R in the burner and I know the burner works because Roxio will burn to it all day long no problem. I've checked the recording properties of the drive to make sure that it has the check box for 'Enable CD recording on this drive'. I'm stumped at this point.     - Post Movie Maker Creations There are a lot of people that are having problems with the Movie Maker. Is there anyone that has had sucess using the program. I know I have! It took a while to figure it all out, but it is a wonderful program that has opened my eyes to a whole new adventure using Windows XP Pro. I challenge anyone to present their movies to the world.     - Crap Quality Hi There, I am capturing video from my sony hc40e camcorder via USB. I have tried capturing in many formats and all are pretty poor. They are ok in a small window. When I burn movies to a DVD they are absolutely crap. Is this just because USB cant to this well enough? How do you get a normal DVD quality output? Am I going to have to invest in Better hardware?     - Very Fast (3-4x) Capture Speed When capturing digital video from my Sony Digital Handicam 730, I am trying to capture and work as DV-AVI so I can have the best quality and burn DVD's. When using this setting, the video is captured at 3-4 times the correct speed. When I capture at the "High Quality Video" setting, the video captures properly. I am running Windows XP SP2 on a 2.8 mhz PC with 1GB of RAM and over 30GB or empty, unfragmented disk space. I am capturing through the built-in firewire (IE-1394?) port. - Why would these two formats capture differently? - How can I get it to capture properly at the DV-AVI setting? - Will the High Quality Video setting work for preserving the original quality for future editing, DVD recording and viewing both on a PC and a TV?     - Why Does The wmv size get so big ? In a new project I import two wmv screen-capture clips made with Media Encoder, each is 270K. I drag both onto the timeline, add a simple title, fade-in and fade-out for each clip, no audio, music. I save the movie using the "Best Quality" setting. The original 270 k clips are full-size renderings of excellent quality. The Movie Maker output wmv is 18 meg, half the size or the originals and of poorer video quality. What am I doing wrong here?     - quick help needed, timeline was shrunk physically, can't see transitions I put together a movie with variuos transitions into other clips and stuff. I saved my file closed wmm2. When I came back, the time line was so small. Where before 8 minutes was my whole program screen wide (at 1200 resolution) now it's 16 minutes wideand I can barely see the transition icons so it's hard for me to edit the short clips.     - Help in saving the movie ANYWHERE!! We have been working on saving a project with little success. We did send it to the DV camera and copied to VHS tape but had to add a black tile at the beginning of the project because the vcr cut off the first few seconds of the movie. We added a 5 second black clip to the project and have had no luck in trying to send it back to the camera again.     - Not able to save anywhere I have been working on saving a project for about 2 weeks. I have poured through the support page and followed all advice. We were able to send the video to a dv camera last week and then copied to a VHS tape. When it copied to the VHS it cut off the first few seconds so we added a black frame at the beginning of the project and have tried to send it again to the camera to tape it but now it gives the msg that it is too large.     - Capture in DV-AVI mode produces choppy audio I have a Panasonic PV-GS200 digital camcorder. When I capture video into WMM2.1 in the DV-AVI format, the video quality is excellent, but the audio is very very choppy. Capture in any other format produces good audio, but the video is (understandably) nothing compared to the DV-AVI format. I really want to work with the DV-AVI format as I don't want to compromise on video quality. I have a 1.7GHz processor, 768MB RAM, have installed Windows XP service pack 2.     - SP2 causes MM2 failure? Hi all, Here's my case: Prior to installing SP2, I had MM2 working just great with my PCI 1394A card and Sony DVR. No problems at all. After installation of SP2 the 1394A card appears in the Device Manager correctly. However, no matter what I do I can get MM2 to recognize my Sony DVR. I keep getting a message to the effect that no device was found. I've tried everything I can think of. Moved the 1394 to different slots, etc. Here's the rub: I didn't install SP2 on my wife's computer also running WinXP. So I moved the 1394 to her machine and downloaded/installed the latest MM2 version. It works like a charm. So the only difference I found so far is SP2. Granted we have different MBs and versions of XP -- I use XP Pro; she's XP Home. The 5 driver files in SP2 are different in every detail except name. Different dates and file sizes. So the drivers have changed. I've read postings by other people having the same problem --- but no solutions. Somebody out there must have an idea of what's going on.     - Input device not recognized I'm using a Sony XP PC which came with Movie Maker 2.1 preinstalled. My camera is an older (5 years or so) Sharp DV which has no digital outputs; my output cables are a choice of the three RCA type plugs or an s-video cable. I've tried both of these with no luck. I do know that things are working because I can successfully make videos with Sony's Click-to-DVD. Problem is, Click-to-DVD isn't as feature rich as Movie Maker. I do have SP2. I thought I'd try uninstalling M-M but it doesn't show up on the uninstall window and I'm reluctant to just find the file and delete it. To me, my DV camcorder should look like any other VCR and I don't see why I should have a problem. I did try importing a movie file created by Click-to-DVD and it made it but a little quirky - I can play the video OR the audio but not both at once.     - creating 56K and ISDN videos for the web I have MM and just updated to MM2. I recently received an mpeg file which plays beautifully on my computer (HP Media Center) and yet when I attempt to convert and save as a 56K or ISDN video to post on a website, the video plays very blurred as though the pixelation has changed. Any advice on how I can save these files so that the pixelation stays like the original mpeg, but converts in a streaming format for 56K users and ISDN users? Thanks!     - Saving Into Movie! Please Help! hello, i thank any one in advance for their help. i have been spending most of time doing a crucial movie for some of my family and relatives. i decided to make in in Movie Maker 2, since i had already worked with it. i know most of the things of MM2 and i can get around pretty good, but this time that i tried to make this movie, something really bad happend. After i finished my whole project and continusly saving all my work, i tried to save it into a movie... by going to file and then to make movie. I have done this before and it works perfectly but this time, it will do nothing now. I follow all instrunctions correctly and when it gets to the progress bar where is shows what percentage it has recoreded, it just takes an eternity with the message "Estimating Time". At first i thought it was a memory problem, but i look at the lights in front of the computer and they are flashing but not very often...( i'm pretty sure its not crashed because i can still move anything else, but the MM2) This has me real mad because i needed this movie to be done yesturday and was not able to do. i just want to try to get it to work now. does any one have any ideas on what is goign on? i will appreciate any help i get greatly!! By the way think it may have to do with something from Service Pack 2 since i made my last movie when i didnt have it installed and it work, but now it doesnt.     - How about Microsoft Fix the Software from locking up and not worki Why doesn't Microsoft or the makers of the Movie maker fix the thing. Seems like most of the people here are having problems with it locking up and destroying the work. I don't know how many times I have really needed to use this program and it crashes on me. It has done this since it was released and continues to do so. Just fix the thing, issue a patch, do something. I can't believe they would release software that only runs for about 10 minutes before it locks up the program. Please fix the software, and make it actually run.     - image quality I have been using Camtasia, PPT and MM to try to make high quality movies (using photos stills, small movie-ettes and audio. MM seems to have it all - except... when you add an (jpeg) image to the time line, it compresses it so that the image looks blurred and the movie is then too low quality.     - Can't make clips with DV-AVI Hi all - just starting with digital video so sorry if answer is obvious (but haven't seen it in this group or in PapaJohn's brilliant site). Importing from Hi8 and Betamax via Canopus ADVC 100 if I opt for Digital device format MM2 doesn't make clips either automatically or subsequently via Tools command. Video and audio seem to be captured fine in DV-AVI, but in a single file which would obviously be much harder to edit. Clips are made, however, when I opt for "Best quality", ie .wmv. Is there a way round this - or should I just settle for wmv? One reason I'd prefer to capture the Betamax tapes (now 20 yrs old) in DV-AVI (despite file size) is that I may want to use another editor later as I get more experienced and I gather nothing else (yet) accepts wmv.     - doesn't recognise Firewire Card IEEE 1394 Hi, I am new to movie Maker and I am having problems connecting my Panasonic Mini DV to computer. I can transfer still images using the Panasonic software Photoovu Link. So I know the computer reconizes the mini DV. In Mover Maker, it says no capture device available.     - Saving movies I just got a new computer, and when I went to use movie maker, it would not allow me to save my completed movies. The reasons given were either: a. Not enough space (I have 60 gb free), b. source files not available (I reinstalled all the source files again just to make sure), c. destination not available (I've chosen about every destination on my computer by now), d. it exceeds the FAT32 file size (I'm running NTFS right now - additionally I've tried test saves on very small movies).     - MM2 Remote Desktop Connection Hi Group, i just noticed a bug in MM2 If you try to use MM2 using the remote desktop connection you get an error message thats says MM2 cannot be used with remote/terminal connections. But, if you leave MM2 running on the desktop.. then connect to the system using remote connection.     - no audio I'm having the same problem that I've seen posted a number of times on here. Im capturing video from my analoge camcorder just fine, but its not picking up the audio. I confirmed it isn't picking up audio because when i play my clips back in media player, theres no sound. I'm using normal av cables and have the composite box checked as well as Line in.     - Need help with saving a movie to CD please Hi I have created a movie using Movie Maker, of my son's graduation which I want to burn to CD to send to family abroad. I have saved the movie to my hard drive and can play it back through Windows Media Player with no problem. (I did this to make sure I had done it right!) However, now I cannot seem to get it to copy to CD. If I use Media Player is only creates a sound file - no video. I am very new at this - my first attempt, and am not very tecnical! I have searched all over but cannot find anything to help me. If anyone can offer a suggestion I would be very grateful, as I was hoping to send it out with my Christmas cards.     - Burning DVD's Using WMM and Nero Hooray! After reading many threads and seeing several useful tips, I now know you CAN burn a Windows Movie Maker slideshow using Nero Ultra Edition 6. Save your slideshow in WMM as DV-AVI file. Then open Nero, click on make DVD Video, click on add file, call up your DV-AVI file, make your opening page with great graphics provided by Nero & burn.     - Photo Story 3 - a question re profiles I have put together a 17 minute project of digital photos I took with my HP camera (more to come!) and a few stills from the movie I made, and have a question about the profile to save it in so that I can bring it up in MM2 and save as a DVD-AVI for burning to CD's and DVD's to be played back on a DVD player. Have just done a small test where I saved it as both: "Save your story for playback on your computer - Profile for computers (640 x 480)" and "Profile for creating DVD's - Pal Profile (768x576)" and noticed that the DVD's Pal profile results in a much softer image, not clear and sharp in other words, when they are both saved as DVD-AVI in MM2. I will probably go with the "Save your story for playback on your computer (640x480) unless someone can give me an idea on the best profile to go with.     - Please help A.S.A.P. I just made a movie for a volleyball team, and I deleted the source files. When I found out Movie Maker needed them, I restored them, but all I can see at the bottom of the Movie Maker window where the clips should be are big red X's on the clips, and I can't see or hear the movie. Someone please help me get this movie back somehow. I really need it because I made it mainly for the seniors on the team, and they HAVE TO GET IT. I made a slide show movie using .Jpg files and .MP3 files. I saved it to the
computer then burned it to a CD-R. The problem is it wont play on my DVD
player. The DVD player is High MAT compatible and High MAT is enabled. I did
manage to get a slide show movie to play with no music but I want the music
too. Should I change the format to PAL instead of NTSC? Or is their something
else I need to do?

Check whether your DVD player can play HighMAT video discs. The first models
only played audio HighMAT discs.

If it does only play audio you could always make a DVD disc if you have a
burner and suitable software. This link has further details.
