I am running Windows XP Pro SP2 and every time I open Movie Maker, an error
box pops up and I have clicked Debug and Send Error Report but it always
closes Movie Maker and I am not able to use Movie Maker. Has anyone else
had this problem?

I guess Movie Maker downloaded years ago when I got SP2 and I have just
recently tried to use it. I do have all my updates.

Thank you.

Some users have reported problems
after installing IE7. If this applies to your
situation ...uninstalling IE7 may be worth
a try.

(927177) How to uninstall Internet Explorer 7
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927177/en-us

I've also seen a report that disabling the
ffdshow codec could be the fix. To accomplish
this...open Movie Maker and go to...Tools /
Options / Compatibility tab...Uncheck...
ffdshow / OK.

===
(You can disable ffdshow with this command:
regsvr32.exe /u "C:\Program Files\ffdshow\ffdshow.ax"
After running that command, the regular
DivX/XviD codecs will be used instead of ffdshow.
You can enable ffdshow again with this command:
regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\ffdshow\ffdshow.ax" )

Thank you John. I will try these things to see if they will correct the
problem.

Yes, your fix worked! I uninstalled IE 7 using the link you (John) provided
and Movie Maker opens nicely without the error box and allows me to continue
using the program.

Does anyone know if there is an update to fix this problem of using Movie
Maker in IE 7? I really got used to and like using IE 7 and may have to find
another program similar to Windows Movie Maker so I can return to IE 7.

Thanks so much for your help.

Sorry, I'm not aware of an update that
corrects the IE7 issue.

If you are only working with still images...
PhotoStory 3 would be worth a try. For
working with video...I'm not aware of an
app like Movie Maker.

This morning I tried MM on my laptop which also has IE 7, and MM works just
fine with IE 7 installed and no adjustment, very strange. I will use Movie
Maker on my laptop, that way I can keep IE 7 on both machines and be happy.
I do have Media Center on my laptop, wonder if that has anything to do with
making the two compatible?

I have Paint Shop Pro for still pictures/images. Thanks for the PhotoStory 3
For Windows tip though.

Thanks so much for all the help!

The combination of IE7 and Movie Maker works
for some users but I have no idea why.

If you decide to make a slide show...give
PhotoStory 3 a try...you might be surprised
what a neat little app it is.

Works fine for me with XP Home Sp2 -
also 3 of my daughters with XP. (unsure their versions)
In the IE newsgroups:
only thing I remember anyone reporting
was disabling some activeX filters in MM and some
had conflict with Intervideo WinDVD Creator 2.
Speaking for myself,
I would never give up IE7 for any application, except to test.
