While trying to capture all of a 1hour mini DV tape Movie Maker will only
record the first 15 minutes and while it still syas that it is capturing, the
time & the file size do not continue to increase. A task manager check of
applications shows that the System Idle process is using 98% of the cycles.
And, the cameras time counter is at over 30 minutes while the capture counter
has only reached 15 minutes. This is the first time I have ever tried using
Movie Maker, and I do have an nVidia 6600GT graphics card in my box, with
driver version 7.7.7.7 from July 2005. Also uning a Sony mini DV DCR-HC32
camcorder for playback via firewire. Anyone else have a similar prob? I have
searched this group, papajohns, google and am not able to find any similar
problems/solutions. ~ Thx ~

are you bumping into the 4 GB file size limit of a FAT32 drive? and needing
to change it to NTFS.

Far from it. The file size was only 125 MB & the 2nd attempt it was 234MB
(Due to selecting a different video quality). I have 5 HD's and while not
ripping to drive C, which 55 GB free, drive E has 88 GB free. All formatted
to NTFS. I'vd played with 8+ GB files from ripping DVD's without a prob. I
have restarted the MM2.1 app, even the computer, run without the preview
window, shut down all other apps, no antivirus installen on the sys, does not
appear to be a conflict with codec's, app works, does not hang or crash, just
will not record past 15 minutes of video, weather manually or "capture entire
tape automatically" is selected.
~ Thx again ~ meu_mel

if it's firewire from a digital camcorder, why not DV-AVI and then compress
it after the capture?
