The special Winter 2005 Edition of Maximum PC has been replaced on bookstore
shelves with the Spring issue... I now have permission to copy the video
made for the tutorial... the same video included on the CD in the
magazine.... to a website.

Here it is at neptune... if it doesn't play smoothly, it's probably the
higher 1000kbps bitrate of the file, combined with your internet download
speed.

to play it smoothly... hit the pause button when it starts up and let the
downloading to the buffer get far enough ahead of the playing... if the
playing indicator gets too close to the buffering, hit the pause again....

The file doesn't play smoothly, and I have 4Mbps download
speed. So the bandwidth problem seems to be with the
neptune server.

Ha!

You would think he would have discovered that himself. Ho Hum Of course a
reasonable approach would have been to bring the bit rate down in the first
place...1Mb/s or thereabouts is way to fast for the average Internet
user....even if their maximum download speed is like yours....it is after
all only a theoretical maximum speed whereas the file is an actual
speed....these Internet users Tsk Tsk

You're right... I think I'll either resave it at a lower bitrate.. or pull
it from neptune and put it on my website as a file download....

Thought I'd leave it as the same version that was on the CD in the
magazine... the file download will do it... even if the neptune viewing is
easier (easy doesn't make it a good viewing experience if it's not smooth).

I deleted it from neptune and put a copy on my website server... it's a copy
of what's on the Maximum PC CD... 43 MB - 1000 kbps bitrate - 5:40 duration.

http://www.eicsoftware.com/PapaJohn/MM2/Downloads/MaximumPC.wmv

I've been collecting info about the upper limit of smooth playing on
neptune.... I guess that one is beyond it. Thanks for the comment.
