    - downloading completed film to CD I have Windows XP home edition. I have made up several films in Movie Maker. I have gone to the question would you like to download to CD. I have commenced the download to CD. The process works and it tells me so many minutes remaining and X% complete. It then gets to a figure like 40% remaining and 58% complete. And that is where it stays. Nothing moves from 40 seconds remaining however long I leave it. I have gone out and done the shopping for several hours to see if it needs further time but still there is 40 seconds remaining and nothing changes. I look in Task manager and it tells me the program is running but in actuality nothing is. I then stop the recording onto CD and so nothing is transferred. Note at the beginning when trying to download the program tells me the capacity of the film. It is approx 100GB and well withing the capacity of the disc at 700MBs. I don't get a message saying I am trying to download too much so it is not that. Am I doing something wrong? What does the 40 seconds refer to? Is there a way to put this right and complete a transfer to a CD. Another question once above is solved can I transfer the film to a DVD instead of a CD .     - Where to get to install? Hi there, I am running XPsp2. I have also gone to the update.microsoft.com website as given in these instructions: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/moviemaker2.mspx Problem is...there is no Windows Movie Maker installed on my machine, and Windows Update does not list it as an option to download (it is not listed in High Priority nor Software Optional). I have also clicked on 'Restore hidden udpates' but nothing appears. Short of ordering a CD from MS, does anyone know have any insight as to what may be going on here?     - Advice needed! Hi, Last year we made a 20min video of our son's first year of life using both still images & video clips. When we came to save it for some reason it wouldn't go back onto the Video camera or onto a DVD - we could only save it onto a CD. We really wanted to save to DVD as the Great Grandparents don't have a computer but have a DVD player! Any ideas on why we couldn't save as a DVD or back onto the Video camera to then input into our TV to enable us to record to DVD??! A friend suggested it was the size of the file? Also - when we played it back from the CD's we made it was really low quality & it freezes in part or the music stops... - but the file on our PC was ok? Any suggestions?     - Video freeze and Sound distortion,skip Need help. I have Xp 2002 Home edition Service pack 2 with 2.40 GZ and 512 RAM. I have a 40 min. video with transitions and sound. Whe previewing the video skips,freezes while sound continues. At other times the sound skips and at times it all freezes up. I have done 30 minute videos before witha few short audio skips before. I have tried to do a system restore. Changed the Drive to NTFS, changed processor scheduling from programs to back grouns and memory usage from programs to system cache as suggested by someone that wrote in to Papajohn.     - Display Screen skipping frames While capturing video the display screen skips about 10 frames at a time so the effect is like still pictures every 3 seconds.     - Chapters in Movie Maker Vista Home Question 1: Where do you include chapter breaks in Movie Maker so that when the movie is published using the Windows DVD Maker program, chapters can be included in the Title page? Does WMM have this capability? I have searched high and low and cannot find anything about, what other similar programs call, authoring.     - movie maker 2,1 goes wrong , cannot retreive past posts movie mover does not save the project for me and it freezes while a new picture was added. it stops me to maximize the application the keeps hanging for hours. I notice a new version has come up but it is only for windows vista. is there a newer version for mce2005? my project is about 80mb at the moment. is it acceptable to add more pictures?     - Red X When trying to publish movie to dvd or computer, I get message that files are missing. I moved a few files around so I can see how this would happen. However, I cannot see any Red Xs on my Contents board, storyboard, or anywhere else. I am stuck. Any suggestions? I would like to burn to DVD anyway (over ride) but don't know how. Thanks.     - WMM will not import the files it makes. A while ago my computer crashed for some reason, with two consequences, one was that the clock was reset to five years ago when I first installed Windows XP, and the other that WMM no longer plays it's own .wmv files properly. It can import and play .wmv files not of WMM making (all these lack sound attachments though), but when trying to import anything it produced itself (or by other people's WMM programs) it says the right codec has not been installed. Wmv files already imported will not play with sound on the edit bar, and if additional sound is added under it (.wav, .mp3 etc), those do not play either. When clicking them without putting them on the edit bar, the preview will show a black screen and the top of the screen will start to shiver. Could somebody please help me fix this? The entire program is useless this way since all my projects are too complicated to be saved in one run, I need to be able to reimport. I'd like to try re-install the Windows Media Audio codec perhaps, but I don't know how? I haven't found any options either to re-install WMM in its entirety. Tag: Insert Still Photo Tag: 64820

    - Scene Detection? Basically I dumped a bunch of old 8mm tapes to DV via a D8 cam with Firewire. Is there some sort of filter I can run it through to detect all the scened?     - DVI filed sized compressed to DVD? I am transferring video from my camcorder to my computer...for the first time. And then transferring the video to a DVD. I assume that for the highest quality, I should transfer from the camcorder in a DVI file. However, this file will end up being 12+GB and it's under an hour of footage. My DVD capacity is only 4.7GB. What is the best file format to burn this on to a DVD? Is there some kind of compression that happens when I transfer the 12+GB file on to a DVD or do I really have to burn 3 DVDs?     - What's the best saving option for later posting video on youtube Hi again all. Yet another quite simple question I guess if your up to speed with movie maker, which im not.. Yet.!. Whith the help of PapJohn ive maneged to create an 8 min movie with audio and affects to post on youtube, as you do.     - My saved wmv movie stops playing after few minutes but music conti I successfully saved my project as a wmv file to my hardrive but it won't play. It playes for about 7 minutes and then the slideshow stops but the music continues. I've tried to save it over several times but the problem persists. Each time I saved it, it stoped playing after only a few minutes. The whole movie is a combination of still images and short avi files with some mp3 files and is 35 mins long. It saved fine but for some reason Windows media player won't play the entire movie. Anyone knows what the problem is and how to resolve it? So much time and work went into this and no movie....     - DVD works on Laptops & partly on DVD Player or PS2 I burned my first MM DVD w/ Power Point pic with backgrounds and no transitions. I changed it to JPEG and attached music and home movie clips. I saved the movie file as DV-AVI(NTSC). I burned on a DVD+R and DVD-R both 16x speed. I used Nero7 to burn and chose the highest quality. I also tried having it choose auto. I have burned 3 DVD's. They were all perfect before burning. They are perfect played on DVD players on our XP laptops. They play great on a DVD player on TV and PS2 until around the 90th slide then the music warps in mid song and the slide stalls. After a few more slides it plays fine again and then it warps and stalls again then plays again fine through the movie clips.     - Audio out of sync on final movie only I created a movie consisting of pictures and video. The video clips are of varying resolutions and file formats. Most of the video has audio tracks. I added a sound track to the video using the Audio/Music track. When editing and viewing the movie within Movie Maker, the video images sync up with the lyrics in the music track exactly as I set them. All is well here. Then I create the movie file. The video images are now showing later than expected. In other words, the lyrics are earlier than the associated image. When I go back to the movie project, it runs exactly like I originally set it.     - titles and credits in Vista Ihave imported an avi file into Movie Maker in Vista and after editing the video into several smaller segments, i decided i would add a subtitle to some of the segments. This previewed fine and as you would expect, with the text apearing over the top of the moving image. When i went to publish the final video to my computer, i found that the subtitles appear against a green background that takes up half the hight of the screen, the video being squashed to fit in the remaining half.     - anyone having problems when using VBR MP3s? I have WMM 2.1.4026.0 Seems like every time I render a video file that I used a VBR MP3 in there is "dead air" at the end of the video file. I am mainly making simple videos for youtube, they consist of an Image and the song, nothing fancy. I keep having to re-encode my VBR MP3s to CBR to get an accurate mp3 "length" in WMM. For example the song is 4 minutes, but for some reason when imported into WMM it thinks it's 6 minutes and I end up with "dead air" at the end of the rendered file. I tried searching the net and surprisingly no one else has this problem. My passport email has a dead email address but I will keep checking back on this forum.     - "cannot publish" movie I have used MM on Vista before and had great success. I got a new computer, recorded some tv shows through windows media center, imported the files , edited the show and then went to publish. It starts fine then the time creeps up, until finially a pop up appears and tells me that it cannot publish. There is no formal error mesage.     - No video import, just audio I saw a recent post on this same topic, and PapaJohn said to use VirtualDub to convert the black-screen video. But when I try to do that on my .WMV file, VirtualDub tells me "ASF files are not supported."     - Single frame movements appear erratic I find I often need to split a scene into parts using the Split button. Consequently, I need to do a frame-by-frame move to the correct point. But frame-by-frame movement appears inconsistent, no matter what technique I use. Specifically, a single-frame advance can advance one or several frames, and may also step backward! Naturally, this is extremely frustrating. I've tried three other video editing programs and none of them has this problem, e.g., a single-frame advance always advances the video by exactly a single frame. I'm editing a DV AVI file that came in from a Hi8 tape in a Digital8 camcorder. I'm using Vista with all the latest patches, have 2Gb of memory and plenty of disk space.     - Movie file from Live Meeting will not save I'm trying to convert a live meeting recording to a movie file. Movie Maker allows me to select the slides I want to show, but when I ask the movie to save it doesn't complete.     - Importing recordings from Camcorder & joining with VCD recordings I'm new to this whole video editing thing, but I've got 3 and 1/2 DV tapes off my digital camcorder to import to my laptop, edit, do titles/chapters etc, then edit another 2 video cds (containing analogue recordings) from another camcorder. I then need to join the 2 edited recordings together to make 1 movie, then eventually burn that to disc (or discs as I can imagine it would be), I thought it would be quite expensive if I got a professional to do all this, therefore I've attempted to do it all myself but have experienced some problems along the way, that maybe someone can help me with...... When I first attempted to import the recordings off my Canon DV camcorder to my laptop, I kept getting alerts popping up on my laptop saying the memory on my C drive was running low, and as a result of this I was unable to import all my DV tapes off my camcorder. I had to clear about half of my C drive and transfer it to my external hard drive which freed up space on my laptop but still I was unable to import all the tapes in AVI format. I was using Nero Vision at the time. I done some research and learned that because of the format of the recordings (AVI), this actually requires a lot of memory (a lot more than what I had to spare) to import the recordings, save and edit them later. So I decided to use Windows Movie Maker and try using another format that would require less memory space like WMV and I managed to import all the recordings to my laptop using this format, but later on I noticed that the display size/pixels was much smaller than the AVI format that I first used on Nero. I just really want to know if there is anyway around this snag, i.e. is there another format other than AVI and WMV that gives good quality sized files, that does not require too much memory space and is easy to edit later? With regards to editing the video cd (that contains recordings from an analogue camcorder), I've ripped the vcd using Isobuster, to create the VOB files and I'm in the process of converting these files to mpeg or wmv (so I can edit the recordings) then eventually join the 2 edited recordings together to make 1 movie. Does anyone know what good free software I can use to convert the VOB files to MPEG files then edit the MPEG files on later? Also, if after I convert the files to MPEG format and edit them, can I make a dvd merging these files together with the WMV files from my digi camcorder?, Will 2 different formats from 2 different sources on one disc play back funny in a dvd player?? Or is there a way I can make all the recordings (incl the VOB files from the VCD) just one standard format on a disc that will playback in dvd players? I don't suppose there's any software out there that can just take do EVERYTHING I need done, is there?     - Missing Video Codec Hi I'm trying to import a .avi file into Windows Movie Maker and it keeps saying I am missing a video codec....told me to enable automatic detection of codecs and I did but it still doesn't work....and it doesn't even tell me the name of the codec I'm missing? How can I insert a still picture OVER an existing video without interrupting
the audio in the background??? If you split the original video into three
smaller clips and then remove the middle one (where I want to place the still
picture) the audio track is trimmed as well and the third video clip shifts
forward in time.

Any help would be appreciated...

FWIW...You can save the audio as a separate
file and reimport it.

In Windows Movie Maker 2.1....
To save only the audio track of a video clip...
drag the video to the "Audio/Music" track.
Then go to...File / Save Movie File / ect...ect......

This will result in a .wma audio file. Be sure
to drag the clip all the way to the left on the
timeline or you will have dead air at the
beginning.
