The updated version of Windows Movie Maker that comes with
the XP Service Pack 2 no longer allows importing DAT files
into Movie Maker. Is there a way to somehow accomplish
this?

By DAT files you mean VCD/SVCD ?
You need to convert these to avi first. Use VirtualDubMod to convert.

Yes, files that end in the .dat suffix.

Hello there,

DAT video files have to be converted to either WMV or AVI files before use in
MM 2.1 There is a great link "DVDHELP" in the links section of my website that
you can use to choose the appropriate converter.

We discovered a solution --- we changed the file=20
extensions to .mpg and they imported fine.
