I'm try to transfer my video from WMM to my DV (Sony DCR- HC20 Handycam) I
know I need an IEEE 1394 cable to do this but I do not see a port on my
computer (HP Pavilion a305w) for this type of cable. Is there some type of
adapter I can purchase to make this work, or am I over looking the port?
Please Help.

Hello,

Yes you need a firewire port. They are quite cheap. Because of confirmed
reports elsewhere, you should avoid buying a card that is based on the
Texas Instruments chipset. It seems that those cards do not function well
in the XP/Movie Maker environment.

Thank You for the information. Can you please tell me more about a firewire
port? How does it work? Where do you suggest would be the best place to
purchase. Will I be able to hook it up myself?

Hello,

You want to know how a firewire port works ??? :) Start with a book on Time
States work through to Transfer Protocols with emphasis on Clear to Send,
Read to Send and finally onto the specification for firewire :) :)

You should be able to buy one from any good computer store or even from an
Internet shop. Fitting it is very easy, simply slide it carefully into one
of the spare slots on your motherboard. If you do not fancy that your local
store will probably fit it free.
