    - Video Quality is horrible. What can I do ? Hello all, I am new to the world of video editing. I have a Sony Mini DV camcorder that I have been using for a while now. When I watch videos directly from the Mini DV on my TV the video is great. No jaggies or anything. I captured some video using the DV-AVI (NTSC) settings in WMM. I added a Title, some scene transitions, and credits. I saved it to my hard drive as DV-AVI. Now when I watch it in Windows Media Player the video looks horrible. There are jagged lines all over. Especially when a lighter color meets with a darker. What am I doing wrong here ? Since these are all digital files I am working with I don't see how I could lose quality. I have VHS tapes that look better than what I have as the outcome of capturing and editing this current video. Am I doing something wrong or is this just the current state of amateur video editing ? Would I get better quality results using something like Adobe Premier instead ? I wanted to put this on a DVD, but the current quality of the video wouldn't be worth it.     - the ever frustrating audio alright, i have only recently been using wmm, but have figured it out quite well on my own. my big issue right now is for one of my movies. i imported the video and all and started it but what i want to do is have parts of the dialouge playing at certain times and the rest of the time have a certain song overriding all other sound. now i know how to put the song in and mute the clips, but it seems as though i can only either choose to have the song play or the original video's audio. but i want both..if i am making any sense and if there is anyway to do what i want to do with this, someone please help! thanks.     - Upgrade Problems hi i have been using movie maker 2 for a while now and have found it great and had no problem's apart from it being a little slow. just today infact i got my pc upgraded to 512mb ram (from 256mb ram) and a new GeForce4 128mb graphics card and when i got my pc back from the shop and ran movie maker 2 it loaded my project fine and i clicked play, i had sound from my music and video clips and the time line was moving but there was no video just a black in the preveiw box. also i cant play any video clips in my collections folder in mm2. what can i do to get my video back?     - Moviemaker project file format Hi, Does anyone know the format of a WMM file? My purpose is to create a WMM project file with other editor and load the file into WMM to process. I found there is an article on Microsoft's website shows how to create a custom effect and transition but a could not find any information about a WMM project file format.     - burning movie maker to CD I have just created a slide presentation using movie maker. It runs fine on my computer, but when I burn it to a cd the slide presentation stops but the music keeps playing on. The slides do not always stop at the same point, example one time at 5 minutes and 30 seconds, the next time 10 minutes. Can any one help suggest a fix for this type of problem.     - DV playback error Dear ..... Having problems with DV playback (MovieMaker2 & Adobe Premiere 6.5), getting message: Adobe was unable to connect to the native Microsoft (TM) DV support. This setting was designed to only work with an OHCI IEEE 1394 (Firewire/Link) card with an approved Microsoft DV driver...... Playback performance will be impacted. In MM2 it will not play back to camera and receive no error message, before it stops. My pc is an P4 - 1800 with SiS P4S5A with 1394 FireWire PCI adapter Western and running (at the moment) XP Home Sp1 express + full update. Had no problems before with capture card. But after I installed Sp 1 and other updates from Microsoft Update in early summer this problem started. It is able to capture, edit and save file to the disk, but unable to playback to video camera. Have tried uninstalling scanner, moved capture card from one PCI slot to another, but error message comes up each time. To me it looks like there is something wrong with the XP's driver on the 1394 card and/or how XP set up its IRQ Have been in contact with the dealer, where I bougt the computer.     - Upgrading To MM2 For some reason after I downloaded and installed MM2 it didn't seem to make any changes on my computer. When I start MM it still is MM1 not MM2.     - File is not indexed Hello experts, I just imported over 700MB of video from my camcorder and after the capture and creating file process, WMM hung for 15 minutes until I checked the status in Task Manager and saw "Not Responding". Thinking that the video was ok, I ended WMM. When I tried to play it through WMP, it would play but I couldn't fast forward to check it out because it kept returning to the place it was at when it was playing. I then opened WMM and tried to import it, and got "Cannot import file: the file is not indexed." So, is there a way to finish my video or do I have to start from scratch? Thank you.     - Problem importing mpeg into Movie Maker 2.0 Dear all, Recently, when I import mpeg files into Windows Movie Maker 2.0 or MS Producer for Powerpoint 2003 and then drag the video clip to the timeline, only the audio track appeared there. When I play the video, no video is played in the Video Preview window. Instead, a pop-up windows named "Active Movie" will take control and play the video outside. I guess some plug-in related to MPEG in the Windows XP is missing because videos with avi or wmv format play normally in the above application.     - moviemaker freezes HI- I'm running moviemaker on a Celeron (pentium 3) windows machine and it freezes regularly during use. I get the message back from the computer that 'this program is not responding' and I have to reboot and start over. I haven't lost any work yet, but it lengthens my work and frustration.     - Movie Maker major problems i have been using windows movie maker for a while now and there are a lot of problems i've been having. when i was using version 1, there weren't as many problems. there were certain video files i had that it would import and split and everything and would let me preview each clip seperately, but when i put the clips in the the timeline, when i tried to preview the whole timeline, it wouldn't do anything. i also had this problem with version 2, but in version 2, it would crash sometimes and would go extremely slow when i tried to preview the storyline that had clips from certain video types. (i've also had the problem of not being able to view the storyline with adobe premiere). anybody know how to fix this problem...or know another program that automatically splits the video for you? i like that option a lot in WMM.     - exporting speed compared to other movie editing software I am a Mac user at school and PC at home. I use imove and love the ease, but wanted to try MM2 for home. I have scanned 200 pictures and have been making a slide show for my grandmother's 90th. I find MM2 fairly comparable to imovie until it is time to export to DV. It takes forever! Or am I doing something wrong? A 20 min. movie took @ 40 min to get back on to the DV??? Why? In imovie the export just takes as long as the movie. I did not try the Movie Maker with the system in a virgin state - I had already installed DTP software (Illustrator/Photoshop/FreeHand/Corel), Games (BF'42, Medal-Honor, MS-CFS-3) and 3 other video apps (VideoFactory 1.0, Pinnacle 8se, Ulead Video Studio 5 and a Adobe tryout for Premiere. Also I had OEM-Preinstalls for the Intervideo WinDVD apps. I wanted to check the interface of XP's Movie-Maker out of curiosity and potential ease for making "quickee web videos" for emailing.     - Customizing the "best quality to play on my computer" profile. Olivier, PapaJohn If I could have what I wanted, it would be a menu item to use the "best quality for computer playback" selection in MM2 that maintained compatibility with codec 7 players. I.e. it output codec 7 .WMV files, not codec 9 I've made the first pass at editing a profile, downloading the editor and creating my own. Unfortunately, PapaJohn's starter .prx file isn't the high resolution sort, and I don't know the settings necessary to create one. My 4 minute movie, when saved to computer using MM2's "best quality for playback on my computer (recommended)" setting needs 58 meg of space, but my newest profile creation requires only 12 megs, with of course, a noticable drop in quality. It would be easiest if I just took the profile currently used by MM2 and edited it to use codec 7 under video. What is the filename for that profile? Or, if that file is not availble for me to edit a copy of to change to codec 7, what are the parameters I'm looking to enter into a generic starter .prx? I sent this a few minutes ago, but it's buried deep in a thread, and essentially changes the thread's topic anyway, so I'm starting it new, to open it up to more inputs. Tag: Help, not working!     - Idiot Help I have so many problems and I need big help in an idiot proof way, like step-by-step. I have no idea what a codec is, and a lot of other stuff, so I need specific instructions. One prob is whenever I try to use a transition or make a title, WMM exits on me. Another is when I save my movie, it comes out small and the audio is really crappy, unless I import some kind of pic, and even whan I do, the sound still sounds crappy. When editing, the sound will only sound on one clip or none. It'll play the first clip find, then the sound will end for the rest of it. Sometimes the video won't play at all.     - MM2 Fix Link... Here's the link to prevent MM2 from hanging up with XP. http://www.tweakxp.com/display.aspx?id=1501 They actually left out a couple of key things. In step one where it says "go to display properties" it needs to be preceded with "right click on your desktop and go to properties" also, in step one it should say BEFORE "advanced" to click on the "settings" tab. Step two... Looking at it, it appears to be very complicated. It's NOT...Just follow what it says and when you get to the point where it says "create the following dword" you should go under "Edit" at the top of the page and to "New" and down to "DWORD Value" and enter "LargePageMinimum." After you have entered and created a new file named "LargePageMinimum" Highlight it and go to "Edit" "Modify" and add the f's in "Value Data." Make sure Hexadecimal is checked. I did NOT do step three. You may find you need to. So far after doing Steps 1 and 2, I have worked in MM2 with no hangs...Yeee Haaaa! Tag: Help, not working! Tag: 6299

Hi I've just installed Moviemaker 2, but when I try to
start it, I get the following error:

"Windows Movie Maker cannot be used because the required
audio hardware cannot be found on your computer."

What does that mean? What do I need?? Help!

You have to upgrade our audio driver. Had this problem but it got fixed with
a new xp digital signed driver for audio controller from the soundcard
manufacturer. My old driver was suddely not working in xp and was not
digital signed for xp after updating from Microsoft. Had only problems in DV
video programs.
