Jack,

I had this problem before with my setup when using a USB cable to connect my
camcorder to my PC.
I switched to using firewire and all works perfectly.

What are you using?

What about the PC end of it?
What interface does it use?

I suggest using your firewire (1394) interface if you have one on your PC.
Again, this sort of thing happened when I was setting mine up.
I tried both RCA and USB cables to no avail.
The best I got with USB was a short movie clip taking up about 900MB of disk
space because of the skips that it recorded, not to mention no audio.

Using firewire solved all my problems. The first time I connected via
firewire, the application suddenly found the right camcorder device instead
of using a generic brand and now my videos have audio and did not take 900MB
of disk space. It only took abut 10 MB.

If you do not have firewire on your PC, I would try USB2, assuming USB2 is
an option. Plain USB just did not work for me.

Hope this helps.
