    - Total Newbie--Need Some Help! I've been fooling around with capturing because I want to transfer some VHS home movies to DVD. I'm using an Adaptec AVC-1100 for the video capture, and the VCR is plugged into my sound card. WMM 2 is the *only* software that has managed to capture audio and video--no complaints there--but the finished (saved) movie jumps from one clip to the next, cutting out huge chunks inbetween. When I capture, the DV-AVI option is grayed out, so I've been using "Best Quality..." then saving as DV-AVI. On the "Collection" screen, each clip logically leads into the next, but on the "Storyboard" screen the problem starts--the clips are only a few seconds long, then the next clip starts minutes ahead, leaving out quite a bit. In Windows Moviemaker, I can drag and drop a load of .WMV or .AVI files onto the storyboard, but when I start adding video transitions, all goes well for a few but then all of a sudden, I won't be allowed to add more.     - Converting MSWMM To MP3: I need to know where I can find a utility, if one exists, that converts Windows Movie Maker files (.MSWMM) into MP3s If something like this exists, great. If it doesn't, why the heck not? Not everyone has Windows Movie Maker to play back on, ... or a system that supports it. Who was the genius who said you could only import these formats for the materials to a new file, but you cannot export to the source format I want to share my files with friends who don't have the Movie Maker, and things like Media Player don't recognize MSWMMs. What the heck is that supposed to be, anyway.     - Yet Another "Can't Save Movie" Plea For Help Out of nowhere, my MM2 refuses to save any movie file except to DV-AVI. I've been using it exclusively for quite some time and have become totally dependent upon it. Now I am getting the typical message about checking the amount of drive space, source files, etc. I checked them and all was fine. I read on the Microsoft site about increasing the page file and that also was no help. I tried reinstalling it, and again, same error message. I read just about everything on Papajohn's site and again, nothing worked. I would even be happy about going back MM1 to see if that works. I couldn't find on the XP disc the folder that was mentioned. And when I type in the DOS commands, I got an error message about no destination file being found. I went back to the Microsoft site and downloaded codecs and just about everything else I could find. I even changed the TEMP folderto the desktop. The QASF.DLL is version 9 as it should be. I've got 258 ram, 1.2 gig processor and 7 free gigs on one drive and 8 on another. Outside of formatting my hard drive (which I absolutely can't do), I have no clue what else to do. The only thing I did since the last time I saved a movie without a problem (Tuesday) was defrag both drives. Please, if anyone has a suggestion, email me. I recently started a little side business of editing home videos and I've got people waiting for the finished product. Even if you don't have a suggestion regarding a fix to this problem, maybe someone could suggest another similar application that I could donwload and purchase. Thanks in advance.     - Got a movie i want split into seperate files I have multiple movies that are combined in one AVI file... i imported it and have them all seperated by sperate clips.. my question is...     - Capturing Video Problems Im using a Sony DCR-TRV460 (Digital 8 Camcorder) connected to the computer via USB Streaming. Now when I try to capture the raw video on the device, the software freezes up or goes incredibly slow to a point where i have to disconnect the USB cable and call it quits.     - Totally Confused I am totally confused now and frustrated. I can not figure out which format to use. To start what I have done is use still photos in the movie maker and set them to music as a movie. When I saved it as a wmv. file on my pc all was fine. That burnt to a cd fine. But I can not burn to a dvd at all. I tried saving it again as a dv-avi file and it will not recognize it. So next I converted it to a type II dv-avi to see if that works. It now recognizes it but when I try to burn it it only goes half way and then gives me an unknown error message. I have just been told that is because I need to save it as an mpeg not dv-avi. Can someone let me know which one is it supposed to be? And if it is supposed to be an mpeg how do you do that? And the software I am using is Pinnacle Instant Cd/Dvd. Thanks for any help I receive.     - Dv-Avi file not recognized I have saved a movie I created using the Windows movie maker 2 as a dv-avi file. But when I try to burn it to a dvd it tells me that it is not a recognizable file. Also when I play it using the media player it blanks the title then shows everything else.     - Connection problem I have windowsxp pro. I have a Sony 950 camcorder that I am trying to connect to my Dell computer. I have a USB cable to connect with but I can't get the movie maker software to recognize the camera. The camera comes with a disk that included drivers, and image mixer program and a Directx install.     - Canon ZR50 After reinstalling Windows XP, Moviemaker will not capture video from my canon ZR50 Digital Video camera. The camera is connected using an IEEE1394 port (TI controller.) After connecting the camera PC recognizes it, shows the correct camera on the list of video devices (Canon ZR50 and WinTV capture card), after pressing next,I am given the choice of File mane and place to save video, after selecting these, I select video setting (Best quality for playback on pc), next. Then I've tried both options - Capture tape automatically OR Capture tape manually. After pressing next, tape rewinds and starts, process moves to second step, capturing video, then stops with the following VERY HELPFUL message, "An unknown error has occurred." Is this a codec problem? I have tried all of the options in the initial capture screens without success. PC is a HP Pavilon, 3.0 GHz processor, 512 meg ram, 120 gig HD, 86 gig free, built in Firewire.     - Image is tiny in WMM When I upload images from my camcorder to WMM, the image is tiny in the middle of the screen. If I expand it, then its all pixelated and crappy.     - Help for JVC Owners I had a problem with my JVC Digital Camcorder. MM2 would not capture the movie and would not recognize the movie if I captured it with the provided software. I was using the USB. This is an audio problem. I don't know of a software fix, but here is the workaround. Connect your camera using USB, then the headphone jack to the mic jack in the computer.     - I too see MM2 close when trying to add transitions I captured some home movies last evening, using Win MM2 to do so. When I set up my timeline, all of the clips appear and drag just fine. As soon as a drag a transition down in between the clips, the program closes immediately. Now, I changed my hardware acceleration to 3 as PapaJohn suggested to another poster, but I'm not understanding codec part.     - newb needs help with slide show I'm trying to create a simple slideshow from scanned photos using MM2. I've scanned the photos (all are either 5x7s or 7x5) at 300 dpi, saved as jpg. Most have a resolution of 1812x1196. I've experimented by saving the movie in several different formats such as DV-AVI, "Best quaity for playback on my computer...", etc. Yet regardless of the movie format, the images still come out significantly blurry. To illustrate, in IrfanView Full screen mode, I can clearly make out the smallest text on a street sign. But in WMP9 full screen, I can't even make out the larger letters on that same sign in the movie. I know others have asked this question before but I've yet to see an answer posted here*. How can I get the same clarity of the original jpg in a full screen movie? Do I need to crop my image to a certain H/W ratio? I've tried resampling to varios resolutions with Irfanview but that only made the pictures more blurry. The video will be projected via an InFocus projector from a Powerbook (Mac). Can someone help me get the best possible quality of these images from MM2? * I've seen several references to PapaJohn's pages, but the links all appear to be dead at this time. Check out www.papajohn.org and see troubleshooting codecs, or something like
that!!!! If you have no luck try here again.

Hi there,

Your problem sounds like a codec issue. I have written a program that
quickly finds the known problem codec and renames them so that you can run
Movie Maker. You run the program again afterwards and restore the codecs to
their original name...The program is very fast and removed the possibility
of making errors. There is a tutorial and FAQ on the site as well.
