Created my first movie (mixture of photos, clips from digi cam) with
MovieMaker.
I saved movie to pc first. After viewing it I then saved to a DVD +R.
Attempted to view it off the disc on a pc and a dvd player but with no
success. Where did I go wrong? Anyone have any tips please.

I will try later today to save movie directly onto a DVD +R, rather than
onto pc initially.

What authoring software have you used to make the dvd?
To make a dvd you need to save the movie from MM as a dv-avi file to your
pc. Import this into the dvd authoring software, and run through the steps
to make a dvd. This is make the menu, encode the avi file to mpeg and
author as vobs before burning.

When you say "authoring software" do you mean like NERO??? I'm having a heck
of a time as well. I plug in my camcorder....with firewire
cable...import...make my slides etc then "save to CD" because that is what it
says...CD...I'd like to save to DVD so that I can play in my DVD
player....what do I do from here. I'm sorry not technical here at
all...trying to get my way through this ...any help would be appreciated. I
go into media center...either "my videos" and create a CD/DVD or "create a
CD/DVD" under more programs it lets me do it but will not play in my sony
multiformat DVD player.

I have a two hour movie in *.wmv format, from which you cannot directly burn
DVDs. I understand that I can save to dv-avi, but my wo-hr movie will be
about 25 gigabytes, nearly all my available disc space. I am leery about
working with files this big. Regrettable situation, since MM is really good
software. There must be some burning software that handles *.wmv directly?

Sonic's DVD software handles WMV files as inputs, some others do also.

Add this link to your list.

http://www.newcyberian.com/howto/dvdauthoring.html

You can use Windows Movie Maker to capture the video into DV-AVI, then use
free software suggested in the article to do the editing, encoding,
authoring, and mastering.

But you do get what you pay for in DVD authoring.
The free options on that list are good ones but I wouldn't recommend them to
a DVD hobbiest.
I would recommend them to somebody that just has a project or two to do and
that's it because why spend the money for something you won't use.
If you plan to do a lot of movies however I would recommend something a
little more high-end that can give you more DVD features and options such as
Ulead's products or something similar.
