Hello everyone, this is my first posting here. I am new to this!

My new year's resolution is to transfer video footage from out digital
camcorder so it can be played on pc or dvd. I expect I'll be posting
here again !

Anyway, so in preparation I've read the last 2 weeks of postings in this
group and the manual for our JVC GR-DV707 and ordered (we live in the
middle of nowhere) the correct firewire cable for it.

So far so good :) but on the papajohn site it says I also
need to buy and install a firewire card for my computer if it didn't
come with one.

How do I know if I've got one already or not ? Where do I look ? (Dell
Inspiron 9400 Win XP SP2 1024ram)

Thanks in advance, Regards, Val

Go to the following Dell site...

Dell Inspiron 9400
http://tinyurl.com/yhvhld

Scroll down to: I/O Ports...

Notice...IEEE 1394 integrated port
(1394 cable and software sold separately)

That's your FireWire connection.

Papajohn and John thank you both for your replies. Good news then for
me - I only need the cable :)

I will continue to lurk here and may well post again if I get stuck when
my cable arrives.

Happy Christmas everyone if it doesn't come before then !

Regards, Val
