    - Reduced-Extended clips Hi all, A friend of mine is having difficulty with AVI clips that are inserted into MM2. Here is the problem he is having, in his words: 1) The clips that i put in movie maker are extended. Instead of the clips ending where i stopped recording, they add a section of blank black screen at the end of them. 2) Some clips are sliced in half or reduced to some other amount. When I play them back on real player/media player out of the fraps folder they are fine....exactly how i recorded them, but regardless of how many times i take them out and put them back in WMM2 they always get reduced. He tried reinstalling MM2 but still has the same problem. Could this have anything to do with Automatic Clip Detection? We are at a total loss. Any ideas?     - Windows Movie Maker When I hook up my camcorder to my laptop and go to movie maker (s cable connection) when I get set to record, the only option I have available is to record 'audio' not 'video'.     - Recovering Project Files Papa John, I opened up one of my projects to see how well other songs went with it. I then proceeded to clear the timeline and make a new video with a song I liked, but saved over the old project by accident. Is there any way to restore the old project file?     - Assert Failed I have an Optura Xi that I have just installed the drivers for. Now whenever I try to edit video files or view files with MS Explorer I get an ASSERT Failed dialog. This eventually leads to a crash of explorer. The actual failure occurs in fgctl.cpp. Anyone else have this problem.     - Can't capture video from ATI 7500 ALL-IN-WONDER I originally posted this on the Media Encoder 9 board, but I tried capturing in Movie Maker 2 last night, and found that doesn't work for me anymore either! :-( The captured image is always black, no matter if I select TV or composite as the source. I have installed both the DirectX9.0b fix mentioned on PapaJohn's web site with no change in behavior. Any other suggestions? Patrick Here is my post to WME9 board: Well WME 9 used to work for me. I tried starting yesterday and it works no longer. I suspect it's something I added to the system in between, but it's been months since I used WME last. :-( The details: Win XP Pro SP1, Direct X 9, Windows Media Encoder 9 ATI Radeon 7500 ALL-IN-WONDER with Catalyst 3.9 I can launch WME run throught the live broadcast wizard (selecting defaults all the way) and end up on the prview window where I can see and hear my camera (composite) input. But when I press the start encoding button, it fails with a message "Invalid Parameter" or "Unknown Error". For the record, if I use a prerecorded WMA file from my hard disk, the encoding works fine.     - Movie Maker Assistance Please Successfully made a movie with photos/music. Scanned photos into PhotoShop and added text. After downloading photos/text, added music. Concerns are: 1. Edges of text are not sharp--is there a specific font perhaps that works well? Text AND photos tend to flicker or fade--is this due to the fact that movie is running or can it be avoided? 2.     - Capture memory leak when capture is started non paged memory begins to leak. This occurs until it locks at 128 meg. The system has 512 meg of pc2100. I have tryed this with 3 different capture devices and drivers. ATI All in wonder pro, x10 usb va11a and an adapter called the USB video adapter. They all have the same problem. I have no problem with these devices with Windows ME and the original Movie Maker. I have solved my problem by going back to Windows ME.     - Recording Audio and Video using Movie Maker Hi All.. I have a Strange Problem. I have TV Tuner Card in my System connected to Cable Network. I would like to record Video and Audio ( composite signal ). I am using Windows XP and Movie Maker 2. When i select Source and change the Channel , the selected Channel displays fine and the sound too comes fine.     - MovieMaker 2 crashes HI Guys, When I installed XP which came with MovieMaker 1, my video camera worked just fine and could make a few clips. When I upgraded to MM2, as soon as I select "capture from video device", the program and computer crashes and machine reboots, It does not give any error message or try to send a message to MS (as I have disabled automatic error reporting). I have tried playing with accelration settings but to no avail. I have the manufacturers driver for my camera and the same works fine with older video software such as MGI VideoWave III etc. I can still use MM2 to view previous recordings and edit them but cannot capture from my video device. Any suggestions. BTW I have been to Papa John's site and windowsmoviemakers.net but could not find any relevant solution.     - audio ntdll.dll crashing Hello. I installed WMM2 about a week ago and immediately noticed it crahes back the desktop whenever I tried to add titles/credits. I read the PapaDoc info about the DivAXF.ax codec so I renamed it and the problem was solved... However today I've started to try to add my own audio in the form of mp3's to the timeline but cann't. Every few seconds when I try to add or shrink it crashes with the 'Encountered a problem' error. It always lists this system file :- ntdll.dll as being involved. I've read a suggestion in this group to rename ALL the files with the .ax extension. But on my pc there are about 125 and I really not comfortable doing this. I've tried lowering the hardware acceleration to level 3 but it's not made a difference. Can anyone help please.     - Storing MM2 Project file After capturing in DV-AVI, editing and then saving the edited movie as DV-AVI...I end up with quite a sizeable project folder for an hours worth of DV-AVI format movie. Now I want to save the edited movie onto disk so that I can go back to it at a later stage and also free up some much needed HD space. The project folder (with the WMV project file and edited movie) is some 13 gig in size. How do i get this onto a DVD disk which only holds 4.7g max ????. When I try and save to DVD as data, RecordNow DX tells me that project folder is too large...Is there any way around this....?? I want to be able to save my MM2 project to disk so that I can then load it back into MM2 when I want to re-edit the saved movie...any help/uggestions would be greatly appreciated...     - JVC GR-D90U I am very frustrated with the JVC GR-D90U DV camcorder I purchased in August from Circuit City. Windows XP does not recognize it when connected to IEEE 1394. I had a Sony and it worked fine with Moviemaker prior to going bad. Circuit City gave me a credit for the Sony DV camcorder because I had the extended warranty. I changed brand to the JVC have been dead in the water trying to figure out the problem. It will not connect. I have changed the Firewire Card, The firewire cable, and tonight I took the camera back and they gave me a new one. It wouldn't connect either so I called JVC. They said it was a software or Firewire Card Problem and they did not support anything but the camera itself. They didn't seem to understand my frustration. They were no help. I went next door to my neighbors house where his computer connects through Firewire with a Canon camcorder using Windows XP. I tried my JVC GR-D90U and it would not connect there either! It shows "my computer" and "my videos," but only the c: drive, not the drive I want to save to. I had to change my default "my videos" location in order to save to another drive.     - Cant Capture Video Hello Folks, I have a problem capturing a video, but the camera will continue to play. The viewer displays one frame and stops. MM2 worked just fine before downloding the SP1 for MM2. I went through all settings and cant find the problem. However, if I capture and choose setting "digital device format (DV-AVI) it will record, but take up tons of disc space. This only records for about a minute or so then stops recoreding again. I tried to capute manually and auto, this has no effect. When I try to play back what captured there is nothing. Any help will be very appretiated. I can however record on Sony's software. I recently bought a Sony DCR-DVD-200 handycam, and installed the drivers that came with it onto my Toshiba notebook computer and Windows XP (Home).     - MPEG to WMV? I have a need to convert full sized MPEG2 files into something I can put on a Pocket PC. I've been trying to import the video into MovieMaker XP, then save it as Pocket PC sized WMV's. My problem is that I cannot keep Moviemaker running. I've tried to do it by saving to CD but the CD won't play in my DVD player (That is compliant with CD RW and CDR).     - movie refuses to play I looked around on the boards for mention of this problem, but I don't think I caught it so I thought I'd post anew. At times, when I click the play button while in movie- editing format (not a saved mpeg format of the movie) to preview a transition or an edit, etc, moviemaker doesn't play. The buttons and everything works, and the program doesn't freeze as I can still import files, add new clips, and trim existing clips, but the movie refuses to play. I searched around Papa John's site, and saw no mention of this (unless I missed it, heh), though I did cut back on acceleration to see if that helped. It didn't, though. Can anyone help? Try calling Microsoft. It is Tele-marketer's If you own a compaq computer then they will tell you too call Compaq. (depends on who you get on the phone.) Yes I have been there. You call compaq they say it is a microsoft problem call them.... Back and forth you go. until you find a tech that Knows how to help you. I have used movie maker and have had good times and bad. It is not My machine. First off under stand that when Microsoft makes a driver they make the first half of the code. for examle the video manufacturer has to make the second half for your computer. so if it does not work it is the video manufacturers fault. BUT FOR A PRICE THEY CAN HAVE IT FIXED. DONT CALL COMPAQ, DELL OR GATEWAY CALL MICROSOFT TELL THEM IT IS THERE PRODUCT FIX IT. IF THEY WONT CALL BACK UNTIL THEY DO. Maybe after enough people do that they will quit releasing software before it has been tested. for exammple windows me shipped with ie5.5 office shipped with 5.0. installing caused problems.     - I agree with oliver Good Job Oliver, I am a certified tech and I had success with movie maker in the past. howerver microsoft says it is backwards compatable. (Lies) I will explain microsofts stand on this. when they create a driver for a device they make the first half of the code. it is up to the video maker for example ati to make the second half to work with your system. The problem is microsoft will support your driver if the company pays them money. Yes you are right when you say it is a peice of ****. But the Techs are also right due to the fact it is usually video or sound issues. I agree it is microsofts problem to get more patches out there. they tend to release stuff before it is ready.... directx 9 for example. Dont pay any attention to the techs shooting you down for being honest. They are not professional and have no experience with people because you are allowed to vent. Thank You for the Input . I can't browse to new save path for saving to computer. Browse hangs PC. I have two oprions - Shared Video and My Video. Space on profile partition is limited

PC is PII-550, 320MB, XP-Pro, plenty of space on another partition

Note that I can save clips to the larger partition, but the path for movies is where browse fails. Cal I edit registry or ini file or something to set the default path to what I want?
