    - How To Trim Popup List for "Menu Background" Options in Nero 6? I've been using Moviemaker and Nero 6 for a couple of years. When authoring a DVD in Nero, one of the options when creating the menu is "background". This gives you a visual choice of a plain background, a still picture, or a video, and also a choice to have an audio file play in the background while the menu is displayed. Every time I browse for and choose a new background selection while authoring a DVD, it gets added to a popup list that is stored somewhere and presented the next time I use Nero. After two years, this popup list is many pages long, and 80% of the files don't even exist on my computer any more. There does not seem to be any option for deleting items from this popup list. How do I remove old choices from the list?     - Aspect ratio problems I am using Windows Media Encoder to capture presentations and program demonstrations with accompanying narration in a Dell notebook running at 1440 x 900. That's working great, except that I want to trim the videos to get rid of the section at the beginning where I turn encoding on and the section at the end where I want to turn encoding off. The files are reasonable size, the quality is excellent, and they seem to play fine on computers with other resolutions so I don't really want to tamper with them much. I've tried using Windows Media File Editor but there doesn't seem to be a way to move through the file one frame at a time to get the perfect trim spots so I decided to try Movie Maker. I have read PapaJohn's excellent article on custom profiles and have used several but I am having awful problems with the screen resolution. ------------ In the original unedited video, the recorded screen measures 7.25" wide x 5.5" tall, which is 4:3. When I try a custom profile set to 1440 x 900 (my computer's native resolution), the resulting recorded screen measures 6 x 5.5 if I use the 4:3 aspect ratio and 7.75 x 5.375 if I use the 16:9 aspect ratio. IOW, the resulting image is nearly square or way too wide, not the 4:3 that the original video is. I even tried a custom profile with the video size set to same as video input, but that profile doesn't show up in the list of Other settings (as PapaJohn's article says will happen). How do I use Movie Maker to do nothing more than trim my video without changing the file size (other than making it smaller because pieces will be edited out) and especially without changing the recorded screen size? I really appreciate any and all suggestions and help. I will be recording my lectures in a statistical programming class this summer and would like to be able to do basic editing to the files without making too many changes to the original recorded video.     - Network performance in class room - clips on a file server Problem: In Movie Maker 2.1 editing clips (i.e. the length) is very slow and it takes seconds till the vertical blue line moves with the mouse when cutting. This is not in the beginning of a movie project, it happens regulary in the end of a project. In a class room we use 10 Windows XP SP2-Workstations. In each movie there are about 10-20 AVI-clips + 2 mp3 songs included + title + a few effects. All this is located on a file server. Video mostly as AVI, file size about 10-150 mb. It s a LAN-network with 100mb. I can think of 2 reasons: 1. The network is to slow. All student want to use the same clips. Often the project file is saved on the file server as well. For the preview window and for the thumbnails in the time line all the data has to come through the network from the file server. At the start of the project there is simply less data, because less clips are included in each movie so far. 2. The workstations are to slow. For the preview window and the decoding of the mp3 songs a lot resources must be used. Each work station has 1 GB RAM. Is this simply to less?     - Newbie working with PAL I'm trying to make a "narrated slideshow" DVD, which will consist of several JPEG "slides" in sequence, and a narrator giving a presentation for the audio track. Here's what I've done so far: 1) Add the JPEGs and audio to WMM. The JPEGs are 640x480 (although the content is limited to a 560x420 zone in the center of the image, to correct for TV overscan problems). 2) Save the movie as "Video for Local Playback (2.1Mbps)" format, which seems to be about the highest quality I can get. (DV-AVI is certainly much bigger, but strangely is also a lot fuzzier). Anyway, that saves my movie as a large WMV file. 3) Load the movie into NeroVision Express (v3). Add some titles and menus. 4) Burn the movie to DVD with NeroVision Express. This works pretty well - the resulting DVD is pretty good quality. Now here's the kicker: I need to produce a DVD in PAL format for someone, something I know nothing about. So I'm not quite sure what to do. For instance, I see that I could change WMM to be in PAL mode instead of NTSC. Then, when I go to save in "Video for Local Playback (2.1Mbps)" mode, it will apparently save it at 25FPS instead of 30. So, does that mean the resulting WMV file is now in PAL format? Can I just load it into NeroVision Express as I did before, burn it to DVD, and presto, I now have a PAL format DVD? Or is it more complicated than that? I would greatly appreciate anyone who can help me make a working PAL DVD!     - Saving to PC I've added photos to my storyline, and when I preview, the whole thing takes only about 5 1/2 minutes.     - add transitions to multiple slides at one time I have added the page curl from right transition for the first 8 slides but like it and want to do it for all 300 slides(pictures) at one time.     - HP Pavilion Media Center PC, Windows Movie Maker question This should be real simple: I have a Media Center PC, which means it's got one of those doors you open on the front with all kinds of inputs on it. Shouldn't I easily be able to hook up my camcorder outputs (composite) into the composite inputs and just capture what's on my camcorder? I start Windows Movie maker, but it only recognizes one capture device, and that's the Dazzle DVC 90. This just doesn't work. (not sure if it's the fault of Windows MM or the Dazzle) Shouldn't it show other capture device(s) ? I am currently having troubles contuing to edit my movie maker project on my
xp machine at work after I have worked and edited them on my Vista machine at
home. I have version 6.0 at home on a Vista O.S. and a 5.1 on the XP machine
at work. I can open the project i worked on in XP with the vista version but
not visa versa. Very similar to how office 2007 works.
I use a client to be able to open the 2007 .docx files on my xp 2003 machine
or just save my files as 97-03 .doc's
There is not an option in vista 6.0 movie maker to save it as an older
version.
How can I work on my project between the two platforms/versions?

Maybe you can setup a remote session and run your home Vista system from
your work computer.... as you see there's no option to go from a Vista
project file to an MM2.1 one.

Another option is to install v2.6 on your Vista system and use it instead of
MM6. See my website's Setup Movie Maker > Vista MM2.6 page.
