You cannot compress any file without losing at least some of the quality.
What file types do you have in the movie?
If they are dv.avi then sticking with dv.avi until you make your final movie
would be best, ie, save as dv.avi and import into your dvd authoring app to
make your dvd.
If it's going on YouTube then opt for one of the wmv formats.
