Ok, I loaded a wmv movie into MovieMaker and put the marker (=blue vertical line in the timeline)
somewhere in the mid of the movie. Then I did a first "split" and just a second one afterwards on
another position with success.

Now I have 3 independent parts. I marked the middle part and deleted successfully.

Finally I wanted to paste the remaining two parts. For that I hold down the CTRL key and selected
with mouse clicks at first the left then the right part.

When I go now to the "clip" menu in order to make a "Combine" operation it is NOT possible.
The menu entry "Combine" is greyed out/disabled.

Why ?

The same occurs if I press the SHIFT key instead of the CTRL key

Not sure - I seem to have the same problem - just did a quick test

Workaround - Just save the split clips to a new file then load that file...

I don't know the answer, but if you try

microsoft.public.windowsxp.photos

I am sure you will get the answer there

Don't have the answer, but it must be system specific, because it works fine
for me.

==================================
As I understand it...the combine option will be
live when you want to re-combine a file that
was imported when "Create Clips For Video
Files" was checked. (the box is found at the bottom
of the 'Import File' screen)

In my tests, "Combine" is not live when "Create
Clips For Video Files" was unchecked during
the import process. And it only works on the
files that were split during the import process.

the Combine feature is kind of like an 'Undo' one that only works to put two
clips back together exactly where they originally split.... it won't work to
do what you are trying because you've discarded some frames between the
split point.

And...as PapaJohn points out....it also
works to re-combine clips that the user
splits if they are still complete. (no frames
can be removed between the sections
that are being re-combined)

You cannot combine no contiguous clips. To join these into one clip, you
need to resave as a new dv-avi or wmv file.
