Everytime I try to capture from a camera or save movies using the 'High
quality video (pal)' codec with variable bit rate, movie is really choppy and
keeps pausing when i capture movie. When I try to save movie it gets a few
minutes in and just resets the pc. Other codecs are fine. I have restored pc
to bare windows xp and sp2, still same issues. I want to use this as it seems
to compress really well and works on 30second clips but more than 5 min and
it resets randomly. TIA

Hello,

Sounds like a classic graphics card fault....it can be caused by the card
not being seated 100% properly and it can also be caused by the wrong
driver. I have had the driver problem and I also had a graphics card that
was duff...worked most of the time but fell over when required to do some
of the higher functions...

The driver issue. When the one card died I bought a replacement high
quality card. It runs quite fast and has additional graphics controls
relating to "Its" CPU performance and "Its" Bus speed. I allowed the
Microsoft auto update to install an updated driver and afterwards it
started to perform badly (There is a lot chopped out of that story) For the
driver issue, you must get the latest driver from the manufacturer. Its
important that you do not get it from Microsoft or from the company that
made the chipset Nvidia for example. This is because the manufacturer of
the card may have altered the way the chipset is used, as a result only
their driver will be suitable.

Hi,
thanks for answers. Pretty sure 1st is a no-go though as its in my laptop,
so i guess the seating issue doesnt matter. but as for the drivers?? its an
ATI 9000 so i guess ati drivers or packard bell (maker) ones? I think ok
though cos it plays games n stuff fine, half life 2 runs fine on it and i
believe thats quite graphic intensive (except fan goes crazy when playing
it!) But i will try, which do you think i should use in a laptop? the packard
bell ones or ati?

thanks
alan
