I am running windows xp, moviemaker 2.something, ATI radeon card ATI rage
theater videocapture, Soundmax digital Audio and trying to copy a tape from
VCR (Three jacks, Red, White and yellow) to DVD burner. I have the clip cut
off to only a small strip at the top and no audio at all. I can see the
whole pic on the moviemaker window but viewing thel clip shows just the
strip. I cant hear any audio at all. Nothing is muted the volume controls and
mixers are on high and I have screwed aroung with the settings all overt the
place and nothing seem to change.

Movie maker is designed to work with digital signals via firewire, you may
have success with the capture utility that came with the graphics card or
you'll need some sort of analogue - digital convertor.

I tried the Roxio Video wave that came with the card and the results were
exactly the same. I went to MSmoviemaker in the hopes that it would work
better.

Check the info on the Analog Video Capture > ATI page of my site.... seems
there are a number of issues with ATI cards.

Well, it has been an interesting couple of hours. I did the things in your
post and things changed some. I set it to capture and let it run for 2o
minutes. I got 5 clips all were "paused" but wouldnt go off pause but there
was a strip at the top that looked like the movie was playing in that. Still
no audio. Then my dsl connection screwed up and I didnt know if i trashed
something under the hood ( like in msconfig or something ) so I restored to a
point yesterday. so I dont know what is happeningl.
