Seems like, yes, you should have unchecked the option on the capture/import
window to have Movie Maker automatically create the clips..... and the
importing would go a lot quicker too if it doesn't have to look for points
to split them at.
Maybe the quickest thing to do is delete the collection in Movie Maker and
import it again, with the option unchecked. But you can use the option to
combine the clips.... select all of them in the collection (Control-A), then
a right mouse click to the 'Combine' option.
