    - Windows Movie Maker 2.1 - numerous problems Hullo After dowloading SP2 i have realised that windows movie maker has been upgraded to 2.1 and is presenting me with problems that 2.0 didn't. Firstly when a movie file is imported from my hard drive (mpeg-1) the player sometimes wont play them and i am left with a blank editing monitor that is no good to man or beast. Also the thumbnail/picon doesn't update so i dont even get the first frame image. Secondly, if it does import and play - when i try to save to m,y computer i am met with the words 'Windows movie maker canot save movie to specified location. Verify sources for movie are still available, there is enough free disk space etc'. This happens when the source files are intact and there is plenty of disk space available. I am also running with over 1gb RAM and a 3ghz processor so cant see that there would be any system issues. Thirdly if any of the above issues occur the program freezes and wont respond.     - Capturing to an .avi from a Sony MiniDV I have tried capturing with my Sony TRV18, connected via a usb cable and when i try to capture WMM only gives me the option to capture it as a .wmv file and the .avi file option is greyed out.     - Clips - Drag em all to timeline? Hello all, I'm a first time MM2 user and I captured a VHS tape into MM2 and selected the feature of making individual clips when capture was finished. I have over 300 clips and now I see that ALL the clips must be dragged to the time line to make the movie. That is going to take quite a bit of time to do and hopefully I will not mix the clips up. The reason I surmise this is that I see the first clip is the whole movie when dragged to the time line BUT not when saved and reloaded and played again. Questions: 1) should I have NOT broken down the movie into these clips as all I want is one straight movie - no editing, transitions, etc.? 2) can I reverse the problem? Thanks for any info.     - Auto-Movie Difficulty- mulitiple files Ok, my problem is one which seems simple, but the solution has left me puzzled, even after an hour at Papa Johns. I have a ton of 15 second clips from my favorite Video game. Importing them gave me a long list in Collections, perhaps maybe even 25 different clips. Now, when I select any one of them, I see only that Individual clip to the right. Attempting to make an Auto-Movie at this point gives me an Error Message. That is to be expected ... the message says it's not 30 seconds, and I know that, it's only 15 seconds. :) The trouble is, how do I select MULTIPLE clips at once? I've even edited the Collections area, to put them all into a folder within Collections called GAME CLIPS, but highlighting the GAME CLIPS bar doesnt bring up all the contents on the screen to the right. Nor can I hold down CTL to select multiple items. Should I be dragging all the desired clips to the Timeline first? Please, I can make a normal movie just fine ... but I am really interested to play with the Auto-Movie feature. What am I doing wrong? Tag: Capturing movies Tag: 26748

    - Recording to CD or Computer File When I attempt to record a movie to a CD or a computer file (wav format), the audio is recorded successfully, but not all of the video. It goes blank after a short while when I play the recorded movie back. I also get a warning that my virtual memory is low and that Windows is adjusting same? What am I doing wrong? I have successfully recorded movies before on CD and to a computer file. I am on a deadline to finish this movie before a wedding in November. Help!!!     - WMM File Import Size Limit? I have a video that is 1 hour, 30 minutes long in mpeg format and is approximately 1.5-gigabytes. When I attempt to import the file, WMM cuts off the last 20-minutes of it. Question: Is there a limit to the file size that wmm can handle?     - Editing original captured video I suspect I know what the answer to this will be, but would appreciate hearing it from one of the experts here... Is it possible to edit (critically, reduce the size of) the captured video file in any way once it is on disk? A couple of times when filming I have mistakenly left the camera on record (unfortunately my model does not have an auto shutoff) so I end up with loads of garbage (1/2 hr, once) in the middle of the footage that I do want. Once I have got it into a Collection and built a Project, I then want to weed out all the unwanted bits of the captured video, to reduce the unnecessary size of the dv-avi file. Is this possible? (I know you can delete clips from a Collection, but this doesn't actually remove those bits from the captured video - right?) Or should I be selective when I do the capture at the outset and take only the good bits that I want, rather than the whole footage including the several GBs of very fine views of the ground and my feet?     - Add effects and loosing audio quality on clips I have just captured 1hr15min DV onto my PC (in AVI format). I added brightness to one of the clips and when I played it(clip), the audio quality was bad - high pitch. Has anyone experiece this(i.e. loosing audio quality) when changing effects on clips...?     - Screen size / dimensions I have created a personal profile so that I could save a movie out in unique dimensions. When I save the movie, I am able to find the profile and everything goes well saving the file. When I play the movie though, the size of the movie is still in 4:3 ratio or something. My original movie is 356x338 and I want my windows movie to be in those dimensions. When I play the movie though (after using the personal profile with those dimensions) it is displaying at 1.34:1 ratio instead of the 1.05:1 ratio - this is seen in the properties dialog in windows media player.     - Do you lose quality from an avi file to a DVD (Mpeg2?) file? The file size is quite a bit smaller. I am storing all my videos taken on my mini-DV camcorder to my PC as an *avi file to keep the original quality recorded, but these files are huge. I do not want to loose any/much quality as I want to be able to utilize the resultion I filmed in on a hi-def TV (when I can afford one). How much will I loose if store these as a DVD file (Mpeg2?).     - DV in on JVC not responding I have a JVC GR-DX77EK digital camcorder. It records from camcorder to PC fine but when my movie is produced (in Moviemaker 2.1 or any other programme) it wont record back into the camcorder using the same firewire connector. The camcorder is set to play, the unit shows DV-in on screen then either a few seconds of footage are recorded back or nothing or MM hangs. Any help would be most appreciated.     - Audio timeline issue Hi, When I capture footage (via firewire) from my camcorder (Sony DCR-TRV19E) the audio on the raw avi file that's produced seems fine, but as soon as I drag it onto the timeline the audio seems to inherit a nasty tinniness to it. According to the properties of the Video Clips the audio is Bitrate 1024kbps 2 Channels Sample Rate 32Khz Sample Size is 16 but the exported timeline properties are different. is it possible to change the audio properties on the timeline?     - Unable to use Automovie I am new to movie maker. I am trying to make a movie using jpeg pictures from my digital camera. I can make a story board and timeline with narration but I am unable to add background music. I can have one audio type in the timeline but not both at the same time. Tried using automovie maker in the tools section but keep getting an error message that says it can't find the collection or that the storyboard is to short. (min. 30 sec.)     - Unable to capture video with MM2 Hi Guys Having read the messages I'm not the only one having this problem, however I can't see any firm remedys. We are getting the same messages when trying to capture video. Being - The device is not responding,close applications When clicking ok - Getting- The video device cannot be used at this time because error when starting device. See if you can help me. We have a Packard Bell 1801 fitted with TV-7134/FMtuner card. Linking with JVC DVGR-D20ER camcorder. We are connecting via the AV port on the camcorder to a spider cable with the traditional red,white and yellow connections to the TV tuner card. The really frustrating thing is the first time I used it,playing around, I managed to capture video, create a series of 6 clips and save a small movie, but now it doesn't work. Also when using the Powercinema software which is another version of MM I get the a variation of the same message and can't capture video. Which does make me think is it me?     - Version 2.1 Timeline does NOT display all the storybook line New to Movie Maker 2.1 (service pack 2) I created a storybook with titles and pictures followed by a video clip in version 2.0 and both the storybook and the timeline display each of the titles and pictures correctly; however, version 2.1 does not display the titles and picture clips on the timeline. In version 2.1 the story book shows everything and the playback is correct. however, all I can see in timeline mode is about 1/16 of an inch that represents all the preceeding clips and ttiles.     - how to save separate clips from one single big tape? I have a DV tape that's about 60 minutes in length, within that tape there are about 7 different short video recording clips. I used automatic capture and WMM2 was able to differentiate the different clips and display them accordingly. BUT, when it comes to saving those clips, WMM2 saves them together in one big video file. When I right click on each individual clip, there is an option to "create clip", but that option simplies saves the whole tape into a single file, without the ability to save just that particular clip. This is the first time I am using WMM on XP. The last time I used WMM it was on another machine running Windows ME, and there was an option to save individual clip separately from each other.     - Photos --> slide show --- MPEG? I have a photo slide show I'd like to burn onto DVD, and I'm currently using Nero 6 for this project. However, Nero 6's slide show capability isn't quite up to par for what I'm planning. I cannot navigate between the pictures with the DVD remote's D-pad. I'm considering an alternate method, such as putting my photos into an animated form...an MPEG. Will Windows Movie Maker do this for me? If so, will I have control over delays and transitions?     - Cannot capture PAL DV-AVI in XP MovieMaker SP2 I have a Sony TRV-19. Prior to XP SP2, I could happily switch the capture format between NTSC and PAL in MovieMaker using the Tools/Options/Advanced dialog. I found that I then had to restart MovieMaker for the setting to have effect, but then the capture dialog would reflect the setting as DV-AVI (NTSC) or DV-AVI (PAL) respectively. Very nice. Now with XP SP2, the capture dialog ignores the Tools/Options/Advanced Video Properties setting entirely, and always shows DV-AVI (NTSC) only.     - Nero Express I have created a movie file in W M M about 116,000 KB, containing digital holiday snaps, transitions, titles and backing audio (assorted tracks). It plays perfectly in Windows Media Player but VCD via Nero Express sees the sound occassionally speeding up - at random - with an overall impact of a 2 second audio/picture mismatch during a 19 minute clip. If using XP Pro (not sure if Home is slightly different) go to Control Panel,
clcik on Network Connections, look for a "1394 connection" or "1394 network
adapter", and check that it says "enabled".
Then, look round the back of the case (probably, although it might just be
on the front on some models) and look for an unused connection port a little
less than 1/2" wide and 1/4" thick. There might be two side by side. Get
yourself a Firewire (IEEE1394) cable, connect to camera, and away you go.
Well, that's the theory. Browse this newsgroup to see what may actually
happen, in practice!!
