    - Microsoft VIsual C++ Runtime Library error Folks When I attempt to add a video clip to a collection, I receive a MS C++ Runtime Library error Program c:\Program Files\Movie Maker\moviekm.ex abnormal program terminatio The clips are mpg or avi files that are viewable in the WMP just fine I also get the exact same error when trying to capture video from an attacked cam I had downloaded and installed the WM Encoder and the WM Encoder SDK, which is when the problems seemed to begin. The WM Encoder would crash in exactly the same way. Even after uninstalling these and reinstalling Movie Maker, I experience the same C++ Runtime Error Furthermore, I am unable to remove these two codecs DivX ;) MPEG-4 Video Codec (Fast-Motion DivX ;) MPEG-4 Video Codec (Low-Motion From within the Device Manager, I can select them and choose to Remove them, but they simply never go away.     - XP Pro no longer recognizes my camcorder At first, I had no problem using my digital camcorder with the IEEE hookup. Now, Windows totally ignores it. I saw where this was a problem with an earlier version of Windows (Win98, I believe). Unfortunately, I can find nothing concerning XP. I was going to get into making videos of various events.     - Help! No more Transitions and Effects! Help me! All of my transitions and effects have gone missing! I only have the speed up and slow down effects! What happened???     - Title Overlay Problems Hi'a I have done a few slide shows using MM2 with no problems....until now!...lol. I have put a 'Title Overlay' on the first picture of my slideshow. The time that it plays for is too short, so, like in all other instances, I went to drag it to make it play for longer. However, I can't get it to display the red drag handles. I click on it, I move the cursor over it, I say bad words to it, I do everything barre cook it pancakes but it wont budge! I think it is not displaying the red arrows because it is too small and the cursor is unable to recognise it as it moves over the title. Please help.....Thanks..     - Video lost during "Save Movie File" I have (what I thought was) a complex project (until I read some of these posts) where - after a "successful" save to my local machine/disc, the compiled video "slides," transitions and Title Overlays just halt at some point, though the audio/Music continues as laid out. My first reaction was I had reached some undocumented max for MM2. After perusing several bulletin boards, I have since learned that there are numerous completed projects much more complex than mine. I believe the next logical place to look is at my hardware(?). I have a Compaq EVO Laptop (Mobile CPU 1.70GHz) running Windows XP Professional Version 2002 w/ Service Pack 1. There is 512MB RAM and 15.2MB available disc space My Project is 0:24:18.40 long and contains approximately 357 images used for slides, each with one of the canned transitions (I use every transition numerous times throughout). There are title overlays on about 1/3 of the slides in addition to approximately 24 minutes worth of miscellaneous music clips I can play the Project in it's entirety using the preview pane in Full-Screen mode, but it obviously does not give me a finished product in which to share Any genuine insight will be most appreciated Rick Tag: USB Capture Crash Tag: 18567

    - Movie Maker Crashes Hi there, Does Movie Maker crash on you unexpectedly? Your problem may be caused by a codec that Movie Maker does not like. This a very common issue. Your one-stop-don't-need-to-look-anywhere-else Solution is with a program called "Rename Codecs". Instead of reading miles of dross that is full of maybe's and perhaps's just run the program, it takes a few moments to identify all of the known codecs that cause this problem and gives you the opportunity of renaming them, or, you can now use the new Auto feature in version 1.5 and let the program take care of virtually everything to do with this problem You can then run Movie Maker and immediately determine if it actually was a codec issue. If it was a codec issue Movie Maker will now run properly. If it was not the issue, you have lost nothing more than a short amount of time. Whether or not it was a codec issue you must run the program once more and restore the problem codecs to their original names. The two procedures together can take less time than it did to read this message and a whole lot less than reading mountains of bumph that may or may not apply to you. The program "Rename Codecs" is free and available from my website. While there it would be a good idea to check out the tutorial on how to run the program...that will take around one minute of your time!!!     - Audio plays choppy in edit mode but not after final creation. I am piecing together many video files and using an mp3 audio track for the background music. When I play the video in movie maker 2 in editing mode after about 20 seconds it plays really choppy and gets worse and worse. If I export the video to wmv for the most part it plays fine but might have one or two chop spots. So far I have tried all critical windows updates, and all optional updates relating to movie maker 2 including direct-x. I have tried updating the system drivers for video and audio and tried a new sound card that worked fine with the same video files and audio file on another computer without this problem. The computer is a 2 GHZ p4 with 256mb ram, the computer that the same exact files worked fine with is an 800mhz celeron with 256mb ram. Both computers are running windows xp.     - I have lost all my panes and video control and screen ??? Absolutley stressed out of my mind, spent all bank holiday week end trying to work out what is happening !!! Everything was fine until I upgraded XP from Home edition to Professional ...then the fun started .......after not being able to install most items I had before I undertook a complete format using the XP disk to perform it .........I then installed my other hardware etc on top .......... Then I found that Movie maker had changed ? I now do not have /cannot find my movie task pane i.e Capture video/ edit movie/ finish movie/ movie making tips . ? where have they gone ? top right of movie maker I used to have up one level in collection tree, create new collection view clips in collection by thumbnails or details ?? Thumbnails now appears over the collection window nearer to the left ? . What is really worrying is that although everything works except the items missing if I connect my video camera to record another screen comes up with a screen on it and allows me to take control of the camera ( play , record , stop etc ) But hey, that should happening in moviemaker ?? so where has that screen come from ?? I can save the movie to either movie maker or my videos but to undertake further recording I have to turn the video camera on and off ..... I have turned to my recent book purchase Movie maker 2 and it has just hit me right now that I am using version 1.1.2427.1 and the book is movie maker 2 so I will endeavour to get version two and see what is the difference Lastly when I go to the help file on movie maker I get .....the procedure entry point GETIUMS could not be located in the dynamic link library MSDART.DLL ? what does that mean If I press it three times I do get access to the help files Finally A card with three ports came with my Canon video camera ( why three way ) anyway I have had to take this out to install XP Pro and have connected it to the existing firewire port of the pc ....is this ok or am I likely to suffer later ? The machine I am using is COMPAQ Presario, 55500UK AMD athelon XP3000 = 2.17 Ghz 512mb DDR 120g/byte h drive ATI radeaon 9200 ( graphics card? ) 128mb video ram Now is this enough to keep movie maker happy or would it require extra RAM ( or any other suggestions) if I am to continue with movie maker so that I can grow into it so to speak rather than having a minimum so to speak Can you give me some re assurance that I am on the right track or should I put the lot through the window now before it all drives me really crazy ????     - How to playback on a DVD player Thanks papajohn. I finally did get my project burned to CD. Now I am wondering how I can get it to playback on a normal DVD player. If I am correct, a CD with images would still playback on a DVD player right? Does it have to be saved to a DVDR to playback on a DVD player or can I just use CDRs. In the preview looks fantastic! But. I've saved the project as movie1.MSWMM on my computer but I can't save my project as a movie file to my computer, or burn on CD or send via E-mail or any other options...     - Analog capture and conversion..... Bought a Pinnacle Studio 8 product for analog capture from both VCR and Analog Camcorder. Did a LOUSY job from the very start. Pinnacle doesn't tell you that you need to buy a separate sound card to capture the audio, as thier software does not use the resident audio inputs from most computers (I've tried 2 different machines) so that was an ordeal Yesterday, successfully captured (with Pinnacle) a VCR tape. Used WMM to "convert" the file. Took HOURS (on a brand new high end machine). Video came out choppy and lousy. So.... Now I guess I'm gonna try capturing from VCR to my digital camcorder and try it that way. WMM SHOULD allow for capture through someone else's capture card OR.. Pinnacle should make the captured file into something that other programs can use and use and recognize. It doesn't. It makes a proprietary file type that only Pinnacle can recognize (and consequently burn to DVD) but that didn't work either. Got an "error" when trying to get Pinnacle to burn the DVD.... oh well I'm starting to think that maybe I should buy one of those new VCR/DVD burner combos and the heck with all this wasted time and effort. their 'ImageMixer', so it can be done! but MM2 crashes as
soon as I try to capture with it. Why oh why?

MM2 works with a firewire connection to capture from a digital camcorder,
not a USB one.

I have a Sony TRV900 connected via FireWire to a HP AMD3200. I cannot get the video to be captured. It stalls at 3kb no matter what I do. I tried automatic capture, manual, etc. to no avail. The computer recognizes the camera perfectly. What should I do?
