Can't convert .avi file to .wmv file :(

I am trying to convert .avi file which has video and sound (the file is 685
MB) to .wmv file using Windows Media Converter 9 (so that I can use it in
Movie Maker to make music video, otherwise it doesn't work), but the file
does not convert to .wmv-smaller files convert, but not this one. Is the
file too big?

Not likely the size unless it was too taxing on your system resources.
I use AVS Converter www.avsmedia.com to do my conversions but it isn't free
($29.95) like Media Converter. Other than that why won't Movie Maker import
the AVI? What happens?

Thanx for replying. I went to link you suggested but couldn't fimd option of
converting .avi to .wmv except perhaps H264/X264 and I installed it but I am
having problems using this.

It would help people trying to help you if you can tell what type of AVI
file it is. Use GSpot utility to determine the codec used in the AVI file.

Try using the AVI to AVI search.
It points you to VirtualDub which I believe is still free, at least a free
trial version anyway, and a couple others for recoding AVI to your codecs.
