I have a Sony DCR-trv320 Digital video camera and want to capture video into
my PC. When I connect to windows Movie Maker2 or Ulead VideoStudio 8(trial)
to capture it will not recognize my Sony. It says,â??Either no video capture
driver is install in the system or no device is connected.â?? I am running XP
pro on 2.4Ghz pentium 4 with 512mb RAM with Service Pack 2 and lots of hard
drive space with NTFS formatting. I have just installed new firewire with
iLink connection. My computer recognizes the IEEE 1394 Card and says its
working. I have also tried it at my friends, who has a Mac and he also has a
Sony with no problem but mine did not work there either. I have check with
Sony and there is no new software updates or drivers currently available.

I have tried:
1. Turned off firewall - didn't work.
2. Checked to see if 1394 card was working - Control panel shows no problems
with drivers and the device.
3 Rebooted with camera attached â?? didnâ??t work.
4. Tried a different cable â?? didnâ??t work.

Any suggestions for further troubleshooting?

Hi ameleho.....I have a Sony HC40 and use MM2 to bring in my movies.....but I
had a
bit of a learning curve at first!! Very frustrating until I figured it out.
First it took me a while to make sure I had the IEEE1394 firewire attached
to both my computer and the camera correctly. Then I made sure that I had
Movie Maker running and ready. Next (my fatal flaw originally) was that I
have to have the camcorder turned on and set on the 'play/edit' mode. When
I click on 'capture' in movie maker it automatically
rewinds the camera and lets you choose how to import the movie files.

I don't now if this answers much of your problem or not.....otherwise if I
had that problem now, I would go and re-install SP2 again......yes, I am that
lazy.... ha ha
