 - Importing VHS to computer I'm doing the same kind of thing except I have closer to 100 vhs tapes. This may take the rest of my life to capture all of them. I'm burning to DVD+r using WMV set at 2.1 NTSC. I'm gambing on the economic power and technical expertise of microsoft moving the consumer electronics industry to support wmv on stand alone DVD players. Most of my tapes are over 10 years old.  - White Bar on Captures Help! I'm using an MSI GeForce Ti4800 SE graphics card on my 2.4 Ghz, 1 G RAM ASUS motherboard. I've used 3 different software packages (Movie Maker works best) and keep getting a solid white band across the middle section of the capture. The sound is fine and the portions that can be see appear to OK as well. I managed to get 2 good captures and now no matter what config I use I just can get anything without the band! It's been 4 days and I've read every newsgroup and help file I can find. I have switched drivers but cant seem to resolve the problem. Anyone with any ideas would be greatly appretiated.  - Solution - MM2 not saving movies I was one of the several people that have posted about MM2 not saving the file after it's been edited. My original problem was due to C-Media on the motherboard. After uninstalling and disabling it, MM2 stoped working. Thanks to a post from Matt B. I downloaded and installed Windows Media Encoder and all is now working properly.  - Creating custom effects using XML Hello. There are 48 different effects, but only 4 of them seems to be included as standard with Movie Maker, and the rest are not very well described.  - Capture problem I'm trying to capture from a Sony DCR-IP7 MicroMV video camera and a 1394 Firewire OrangeLink board. It captures OK with Studio8, though not with Sonic or ULEAD. When I try to capture with MovieMaker2, I get an Unspecified Error message, and can go no further. In Control Panel, System, under audio and video devices, it shows it as working normally.  - XP home edition I have a digital camcorder sony DCR trv33. The CD that came with the camera shows campatible with W/xp, but I tried to install the CD and wndows xp does not have the folders needed in the system. I was told to contact the manufacturer for availavility, The manufacturer (DELL) told me that they dont have the folders needed (q311246 & usccgp)(valueadd support)..Nor Sony was able to help..I am stock with a $800.00 camera and I am not able to use the functions.  - video and sound out of sync After finishing my movie in MM2, I used Sonic MyDVD software to burn the movie to DVD. When playing the movie on my DVD player, the video and sound were out of sync, and some of the video was jerky. I didn't have this issue when I used Sonic by itself to make a movie, but I have very little editing capabilities with Sonic software. Is there any work around this problem? Tag: Canopus Tag: 2779

 - Will MS ever fix the title crash? What's the deal with this titles/effect crash that seems to account for 50% of the posts in this forum? Are microsoft going to fix it so people don't have to go and play with XP dispay settings, and give Papa John a break or what?  - Importing VHS Movies to Computer I have 30-40 VHS movies each with 6 hours of video. I have imported digital video to my computer using Movie Maker 2 and about 1 hour of video translates to about 1GB of disk space (using video for local playback 2.1 mbps). I would like to keep the quality of the VHS tapes to at least a reasonable level when I bring the video into my computer. Ultimately I am planning to burn the videos to DVD. My question is this: what are the best settings in Movie Maker 2 to keep the quality at a good/reasonable level, but also keep the file size to a reasonable level?  - How I fixed MM2 from quiting all the time I tried every thing on the Papjohn site and still experienced MM2 stopping when ever I tried any editing feature on any video clip. I have built in audio on my Asus P4B533E motherboard. The built in audio chip and driver is from Cmedia. Installed the latest Cmedia drivers and still had problems. I then installed a Creative labs Soundblaster 16 and disabled the cmedia software and hardware. Now MM2 is very stable on my computer and working great. My Computer specs: Asus P4B533E with P4 2.66 1gb memory 1- 80gb maxtor 1- 160gb maxtor 1- 40gb WD raid drive ATI all in wonder Radeon - (I'm going to replace with a Nvidia) I have been capturing VHS through my Canon ZR-50 DV Camcorder, but I loose audio sync after about 45 minutes. I'm moving to a Canopus capture/DV-converter card. I think the ATI card's output is horrible. The Canon never drops frames and is outstanding for 45 minute videos or less. Tag: Canopus Tag: 2734

 - Plus! DME Transitions (I guess I could just try this and see what happens, but I thought I would try to save some time and ask the question here first....) I've been using MM2 (Plus! DME installed) with no problems . I've been working on a video that I am going to end up putting back on DV tape. My final video will be two video of about 45 minutes each (I have to do this so that I can get all 90 minutes of video onto a VHS tape). Right now I only have about 5 minutes of video on my story board. I've noticed that when I drag a DME transition and play the transition in the preview, it looks jerky/dropped frames. When I add some non-DME transitions, the same thing happens. Then there are some transitions I add that play smoothly when I add them. What I'm wondering is, if I left the transitions that are jerky, when I save my final project, will they be jerky too, or is there a chance it will play smoothly??  - Dropped frames > 8fps with Personal Cinema Any obvious things I'm doing wrong here? I have the latest WDM and display drivers for the Personal Cinema GeForce 4 MX440, running on AMD 2Ghz WinXP with all updates. When I capture in from my composite source, I get dropped frames (about 1 in 5) at anything over about 8 fps. Have tried both Adobe Premiere 6 and Windows Movie Maker.  - How to Turn Off Movie Maker I'm at my end... :( I have a Matrox RT 2000 card installed in my state of the art digital video editing system and I can't use it because Windows Movie Maker is the default video editing software. I can't capture anything in Matrox Tools. Basically, I'd uninstall, but you can't unintsall Movie Maker or Movie Maker 2.  - Movie does not save After agonizing minutes editing my video and waiting patiently. The video only saves up to 63% and then apparently hangs. Ive trtied all different combinations(waiting up to 60 minutes at a time but it still stops saving at 63% with the remaining time just increasing. Is this a fatal flaw? Is therer a fix?  - Corrupt Video After Adding into MM2 Here are my computer specs: - AMD Athlon 1GHz Processor - 512MB PC133 RAM - GeForce 2 GTS w/ 64MB RAM - 160GB WD 7200RPM 8MBcache Hard Drive (Secondary) - 30GB IBM 7200RPM Hard Drive (Primary) - Windows XP Professional with all Critical updates - Movie Maker 2 Whenever I try and make a movie from DV Video clips, jpgs, mp3s, the first time it compiles, it takes about 3-5 hours to make it into any file (whether it is a DV compatible file, a Windows Media File, etc.) Afterwards, parts of the AVI file that I edited FROM, so the source file, gets corrupt, some jpgs become corrupt and unreadable, and some mp3s lose their integrity.  - Recording movie back to DV camera When I attempt to record my completed movie back to DV camera, I get the message that my movie has not been recorded to tape. No reason why not. Just a link to a menu on how to record back to DV Cam, which I know about and have checked all the options thoroughly. Other movies will record back- this one will not. It is not overly long (about 20 mins) and not overly big (I have plenty of disk space).  - importing film I have windows xp and a aiptek 3100 camera recomendid on windows site. When i try to download clips to movie maker it downloads to my pictures file succesfuly into 27 different modules name lets say bret 001 bret 002 ect...to 27 all these video clips are in my pictures i put my pointer over different modules and the first 18 are jpeg file types but 19 thru 27 are avi formator video format now icant view the 1thru18 clips as video they will only show as stills.but 18 thru 27 i can preview and make a short movie out of now iam finished with the movie and the computer wont let me save the pictures to disk or anything else. The warning keeps coming up saying that some of the files are missing and i must find them first to save them.Alsocomputer wont recognise my aiptek camera even though a picture of it is in cameras and scanners and on my desktop and drivers are installed corectly. someone please help out there. I've got a suggestion... why doesn't someone post date their computer 6 months or so, and post a message to this gorup called 'MM2 hangs when I try to use a transition', and in it, we put the remedy (or at least the link to PJ's wonderful site!).  - WMM2 quits everytime I select a transition or effect Every time I bring up the list of transitions or effects as soon as I select one of the icons and release the mouse button WMM2 quits. This happens if I just click on the effect or if I drag it to a clip and release the mouse button.  - Trouble loading movie maker 2 I recently got hit with a nasty system wide virus (win32.pinfi) that attacked most of my .exe files including Movie Maker 2 executable. I have managed to wipe the virus off the puter but am having heaps of issues after same. One issue was with my older installation of Movie Maker 2 on XP Professional where I got intermittent errors with streaming video and the gui would crash when trying to use any transitions between files. I tried to hack the registry to remove Movie Maker 2 only to later find it is rather a unique installation (read: dozens of registry entries). I tried downloading the Movie Maker 2 .exe again only to have Movie Maker 1 launch each and every time. Any hints/ideas on how to blow the Movie Maker 1 away and update with Movie Maker 2 again?  - 'Clip' trimming? Followed the instructions letter-by-letter in the MM2 Help file, but I just don't get it. I just want to remove commercials from some TV programs I've taped and captured with MM2. Grabbing the handles and dragging, right to left, or left to right, is not defined, so assume it does not matter? The section BETWEEN the two 'trim handles' turns a purplish color when dragging. Again, not defined. Is it the purple portion between the handles that gets deleted? Invariably, I end up deleting all or portions of a clip that I don't want deleted. Sometimes, the deletion carries over to parts of previous or succeding clips. Anyone point me to a more detailed online explanation of just how to correctly use these 'trim handles'?  - Losing sound with transitions I'm using a sony TRV-33 miniDV connected with a Firewire card to my computer. No problems with capturing my video ( in DV-AVI) but when I put my movie together I get either a popping sound with some transitions or the music is temporarily lost during the start of a transition. A cheap plain vanilla OHCI compliant 1394 card is really all you need. I
don't think
anything higher-end is going to give you any advantage with MM2.
