    - capturing problems Hi guys Doesn't matter what program I use, but when I try to capture from my sony trv330 I get these band lines thru the picture - especially when there is movement.     - Storyboard is condensed Originally when I placed my clips and music in the storyboard the clips were large and I could see what they were. Now that it's been saved they clips appear to be very condensed and at a glance I can't tell what they are. How can I go back to the original format? The way it is now it's difficult to add additional pictures as I can't tell where to put them as the clips are so small I can't tell what they are without playing the movie. Thanks!!     - CD Drive Not Recognized- Yes I read other messages First off, yes, I did read the other posts on what people found was wrong with XP and Movie Maker not seeing my CD Drive. Indeed, the drive was not configured as a CDRW so I followed the instructions in the previous messages and the extra tab is now there. However, both XP and MovieMaker won't work. XP keeps saying "please insert a blank disk in the drive" and MM says there is no valid CDR in my system. The drive reads and writes just fine using Roxio and even works with Roxios drag/drop feature. I also know its not a conflict with roxio for some reason as this problem existed before I installed Roxio. I even updated the BIOS on my Sony drive. So I am at a loss :) Anyone have any ideas?     - drag & drop movies from collection to timeline I have problems to drag & drop movies from my collection to the time line. Strange enough I have no problems with one of the users on my XP Home edition, but with the others it fails. Also the button "apply default settings" doesn0t solve the problem.     - My Laptop is stuck after capturing video from my sony DV Cam I have windows XP on my Tosibha laptop. I have captured a video of 30min. in length from my sony dv camera (in bits and pieces of around 10 min each). When I have finished with video capture my laptop is stuck not even the mouse pointer wa moving. And I had to do a hard reboot to start the laptop again and on start up there was the blue screen saying your system rtecovered from a failure.     - Winter Fun Pack - Snow Whats up with this? The quality of films in movie maker is just so great... However.. When adding snow... The quality drops to about the lowest quality.. Ive tried just about anything... I dont care how its done, but I want snow on this film! Even if I have to wait for a day with snow falling, and setup a blue screen and film it..     - Can view, can playback, but cannot capture - stops at 3 KB I'm able to playback the video footage from the camera into Windows Movie Maker. But when I click Capture, the file size stops at 3 KB. When I click finish, I receive an error about the camera being connected or configured properly. I've done all the recommended things like plug the camera in AC, disable background programs (such as anti-virus scanning), etc. The only solid conclusion I've come to is that it works when I use different Mini-DV tapes than the one in the camera right now (a JVC camcorder was used to record the images, and I'm just trying to capture with my Sony). Is there such thing as Movie Maker being unable to capture from certain video tapes, or tapes recorded with certain cameras, SP vs. LP recording speed, etc.? Thanks. Tag: CANNOT CAPTURE PAL!     - Movie Maker Problems Bigcan@aol.com and I appear to be having a similar problem. when playing back Video clips the video monitor goes blank and the sound keeps playing, or my computer freezes all together. I find this problem occurs mostly when I And repeatedly stopping and playing a clip during editing or switching between clips. I have also found that when I go to split a clip the actual split point is often slightly before the picture in the preview monitor. I'm running windows XP SP2 on a 3GHz HP pavilion laptop.     - Flickering when capturing video Whenever I capture video, there is flicker in the video. It is constant; every 1-2 seconds, there will be a slight pause between frames, and the result is that the video looks jerky. This didn't happen the first few times I used MovieMaker.     - Analog to MM2 using DVC 80 not capturing audio I am trying to capture video using Dazzle DVC 80 with my sony 8mm camcorder. The problem is that I am capturing video, just not sound. It is a mono system. I have checked all connections. I can hear the audio on the camcorder, but I am unable to get any sound to my computer.     - How to write a C++ application that grabs video and burns a DVD. I need to write an application (in Visual Basic or Visual C++) that records incoming video like a videotape recorder (or like Movie Maker), allows the user to pause, stop, record again, playback and erase selected tracks, and then put on DVD the good ones. The DVD has to be seen on normal DVD players. I dont want to use Movie Maker plus some DVD burning software because the application has to be very simply to use by computer non-experts.     - Cannot transfer from Panasonic Camcorder tape I am trying to get video from a tape in the camcorder and I cannot access it. I do all that is indicated in the camera's instruction's as well as in the movie maker's instructions and I first get an error message indicating the the camera is either incorrectly conneted to the USB port (which it is not) or that it is not in web cam mode. It doesn't matter whether I put it in web cam mode or not because then I get an error message indicating that the USB is disconnected. If I run a hardware check, all shows up as being correct.     - Making VCDs with go good video quality I keep hitting walls in trying to make video CDs that preserve the original video quality. The videos I want to burn are short (anywhere from 3 minutes to 10 minutes), so high compression and small file size are not a priority. I've tried TMPGEnc with VCDEasy, but the video quality is poor, despite trying many combinations of settings. Then I tried loading an AVI file directly from MM2 into Nero. The preview in Nero had great image quality, but the video and audio were choppy, and when I burned the CD, it would not play in any DVD player.     - how to transfer collection? I created an video and saved the collection to my hard drive. It plays well (audio and video).     - Combining Clips most of the time this works fine but I have 2 clips that refuse to combine. No error message - nothing happens. They are both clips captured off the same digital 8 tape and other clips from this footage have combined fine.     - Preview pane shows nothing - only flickers I have Movie Maker 2.1 (from SP2) and my preview pane won't show anything. Sometimes it will show the first frame of a video but it doesn't play. All the options are greyed out so you can't press play...change size...go full size...or anything. The title above the preview just kind of flickers. Sometimes when I switch from another window it's like see through and you can see the window behind it through the preview part.     - Audio turns to noise This is the first time I use Movie Maker. I tried to combine several video clips I took using my digital camera but the audio became noise instead of recorded conversation. If I play the clips from the original files it comes out okay. It's just when I put the clips to the storyboard then the sounds turns to noise (like the noise when you are tuning the radio). The reason : VirtualDubMod did not do what I wanted. Everything was OK till I tried to save the result as .avi. Then I failed, I could not save but as a project format or as .wmv.     - Slow audio problem I saved a movie last night on MM2.0, and the audio came out incredibly distorted. At first I thought it was just a sound quality problem, because I used a low bitrate - but now I'm not so sure. Every movie I try to make gets an audio that's 50% (guess) slow in speed and in pitch. Meaning: 1. When I import a movie into the collections panel then preview the clips from there - all is fine. But once I drag a clip into the timeline and preview it there - sound is distorted. 2. I'm unable to use movie maker at this point, since this happens with all new projects, where both source and/or output files could be anything, even DV AVI. 3. I've tried reinstalling MM2, Media Player 9, Media Player Codecs... nothing works. I'm guessing there's either a solution, or I'll have to reinstall Windows. Anyone knows? Thanks.     - Quality of the final movie I used MM2 several times and each time when I create the final AVI-movie (with maximum quality) I don't get a perfect quality movie. Sound is perfect, the picture is good, but not perfect. It has the same resolution-quality as the original movie, but I see "artifacts" certainly with shots of quick movements.     - Quality of MPEG Video I have encoded both Quicktime and AVI videos to MPEG using the free version of TMPGEnc. The software worked fine and I got an output, but the quality is poor.     - WMM2 Error message When I try to capture video I get the following error message: "The video device is currently in use. Closw any other application that is using this device and try again." Once i click OK, a new message reads: "the video device cannot be used at this time because there has been an error starting the device". I'm using a ATI All-In-Wonder 128 pro.     - MM2 used to load, now crashes Up until a month or two ago MM2 worked just fine. Now it laods, displays the most recent thumbnails collection and the immediately crashes with a problem in ntdll.dll. Don't seem to have the offending DIVX codecs on the system and have not found anything else on papjohn site that describes my problem. Studio version 8 works fine but MM2 is easier for a quick edit.     - Age old question...MM2 and MPEG Note: I am re-asking the question as 2.1 was released recently, and I can import my files into WMEnc9. To give you an idea of my starting point/version, I slipstreamed SP2 into an XP install. I am capturing video with an ATI AIW Radeon into MPEG2. I can open these files with WMP9, WMEnc9, but not with MM2.1. The age old error message is "filename.mpg could not be imported. An interface has too many methods to fire events from" Initially, the only suggestion I found on PapaJohn's website and aside from an interim conversion. http://www.eicsoftware.com/PapaJohn/MM2/MM2.html I want to eventually compress to a wmv using a bit rate of peak 3000, average 1200, no resizing of the video, and with the comercials cut out. The problem with an interim conversion is that the comercials typically weight on the peak and push the wanted content to the low side of the average. The next logical step is to capture with a specific codec. What codecs are supported. I have found web pages (listed next) that say what file types MM supports and that not all MPEG2 codecs are supported, what codecs WMP supports, and what pixel format to use when capturing. But they do not list what MPEG2 codecs MM2.1 does support.     - Importing Video Causes Crash This board suggested that since I don't have a firewire cable, I cannot use MM2 to capture DV video at high quality. It was suggested I use another service which would allow me to capture it with USB and then import the video into MM2. When I import the MPG, I get the Windows Error window : Windows Movie Maker has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.     - moviemaker 2.1 I'm just wondering if my WMM2.1 is installed properly after the SP2 update. I've read that there is supposed to be a third tab with codecs listed that you can check and uncheck. I do not have that third tab but I do have all the files listed on Papa Johns website in the WMM folder. eg wwm2res.dll dated 4/8 etc. When I go to the help section on the tool bar at the top and click on "About WMM" it comes up as version 5.1(......SP2) Windows Movie Maker version 2.03312.0 This sounds like I am not completely installed??     - Timestamp again I see this question has been asked but I'm not clear about the answer. I have a Sony TRV325 and am capturing via firewire to MM2. The time/date stamp info is showing in the camcorder viewfinder/lcd display but not on the captured video. Hi

I am using a Belkin USB 2.0 capture device to try and capture PAL VHS. I
have found where I can choose PAL in the settings, but it seems to ignore the
changes I make and carry on trying to capture NTSC! (Black and White and
fuzzy!)

Any ideas? (I have tried Ulead Video Studio and Roxio's capture program as
well!)

Try contacting Belkin support. Maybe it's a common issue.
